EDITOR Happy July! Join the Eagle Creek Life Facebook page. It’s no small or inexpensive task putting the publication together for the community. I am working hard to get content that is meaningful, useful and unique, but that task has been challenging. I am looking for people who would like to contribute to the publication and, also, community liaison people to help keep me informed with events and happenings. Please email me at: bill@ QMCWorld.com I would like to take this opportunity to ask you to support our advertisers. Victor Russell Salon is in east Saint Cloud, very close to 192 and Narcoossee. World-class stylists and professionals from New York and beyond, all right here locally. These are friends that believed in this publication and love our area. Larry Herring CPA has been my CPA for years. He is in Winter Park, but after the initial meeting everything is just a call or email away. I can tell you that not all CPA’s or accountants are the same. A real-world story shortened for time. Larry set up my corporation, and I was discussing it with a friend who uses a different CPA. When we compared corporate structures, it seemed his CPA didn’t advise correctly on something and cost him an additional $9000 last year. Do yourself a favor and engage Larry; regardless of how complex your taxes are, he is worth it! Kisselback Ford is a short drive and worth every mile. Bobby Kisselback has really stepped up to help me bring this publication to Eagle Creek, and I hope you consider them when considering a vehicle purchase. Please mention our publication when visiting any of our advertisers. Until August, stay cool! Bill Bokunic Publisher and CEO, Quantum Marketing Communications 321-331-6398 bill@QMCWorld.com

Make Your move, With a Plan by Jeanine Corcoran

Y

ou’ve waited a long time for your dream home and now your contract has been accepted and your closing date is set, now what? It’s time to make your move, with a plan. First things first. Will you hire a company to pack up all your belongings or do you have time to pack yourself? If you choose to hire a company to do it, be sure to be there to supervise on the packing day. You should arrange to be off of work and not just you, everyone living in your household needs to be involved. Take pictures of larger items and read the inventory sheet before signing it. Packing can be stressful whether you are packing or whether you are supervising. Your dream home, if it is not a new home, will need to be cleaned prior to move in day. The previous owner only has to leave the home broom swept. If time allows, have your home professionally cleaned including the windows. You don’t want to be placing your furniture and boxes onto dirty floors. You’ll be thankful you did that on the moving day! When the movers arrive to your dream home, have a plan. That’s right, draw an actual plan of where you’d like the furniture and boxes placed in each room. Also, plan to be the supervisor as the furniture arrives. Don’t make the mistake of being part of the crew that helps move the

furniture and boxes. It’s so easy to want to help, especially if you choose to have friends help you move but you’ll end up with furniture and boxes in disarray and creating more work for yourself later. Moving can be exciting and stressful at the same time but having a plan can help the process go more smoothly. Whether you hire a company to pack for you or do it yourself, it’s important that you are there on packing day. Also, be sure to have your dream home professionally cleaned prior to moving in, have a plan drawn ahead of time for furniture and box placement, and plan to be the supervisor on moving day. Planning will help you settle in more quickly and what better way to help you enjoy your new home than to have a plan! 6th Annual Baby Squirrel Shower Have you seen any squirrels since you moved here? Chances are, construction and lack of trees may have made these little animals elusive. Come thrill your children with a close-up look at squirrels during the Baby Squirrel Shower on Saturday, July 18th from 10am to 1pm. They’ll have activities, food, prizes, wild encounters, games, and education stations. Kids under 5 are free but they ask for a $5 donation per adult to help with ongoing care of the animals.

hole, and then covering it up. They also stash food everywhere for an impromptu meal. If I replace “food” with “toys”, they sound like my preschooler! Check out the activity page at btnwildlife.org to learn about the 24 resident animals you may encounter at the refuge. They are looking forward to meeting their new neighbors! If you are interested in volunteering, information can be found on the BTN website. The refuge is located at 10525 Clapp Simms Duda Road, 5 minutes away from Eagle Creek and right off of Narcoossee Road.

Fun facts about squirrels to share with your children are their knack at pretending to hide food by digging a hole, placing an invisible object in the

Are These expeNses Ruining Your Budget? You’ve created a picture-perfect budget

and dutifully adhered to it. Then out of the blue comes an unexpected expense. Check out a few areas you may be able to “head off” by budgeting ahead of time.

Car maintenance. Avoiding regular maintenance for the sake of your budget? Car neglect could cost you more in the long run than routine checkups. Revisit your auto records to see what a year’s worth of expenses look like. Then check with your mechanic to see if you have any milestones coming up that you need to budget for.

Food. You don’t have time to cook dinner so you hit the drivethrough on your way home from work. If this happens more often than you (or your budget) care to admit, consider adding a separate category in your budget for unexpected food expenses or dining out.

What’s your worst money habit? Using credit cards 61% Eating out/takeout 59% Bad budgeting 49% Shopping 41% Overspending on food 32%

Children’s extracurriculars. Have you been blindsided by your daughter’s dance recital fees or your son’s piano lessons? You’re not alone. Get a calendar out and plan for the extra funds your children need. You may even nab an early registration discount for planning ahead. Pet care. Our furry friends have needs, too. And failure to plan for them can derail even the most thoughtfully laid out budget. When budgeting, don’t forget to include a “bucket” for Fido’s routine care, prescriptions and unexpected doctor visits.

Special events.

Your best friend is getting married! It’s great news for her – potentially not great for your budget. Can you afford the bridesmaid dress, travel costs and wedding gift? Or will you have to borrow from another category of your spending plan to make it happen?

“Your Worst Money Habit May Not Be That Bad,” Finance.yahoo.com, February 11, 2015
