We build those relationships with our clients through open communication founded in mutual respect and trust. Working as a reliable partner who is invested 2 Nona Woman Magazine | August 2017

Can you tell us a little history of the business? Working throughout Central Florida as a graphic designer, I discovered my love for magazine and publication design after becoming the art director for Markee Magazine, a national trade publication for the film and video production industry. Six years later, I became the associate art director for Orlando Magazine, where I further developed my skills. But after four years, the recession hit, resulting in me being part of a corporate-wide layoff—so I made the decision to work for myself and Renée Blair Graphic Design was born. I was quickly hired by local publishers to design and produce magazines such as the Peabody Journal, Lake Mary Healthy Living Magazine, and Seminole Magazine, winning awards from the Florida Magazine Association for the former two. Meanwhile, I continued to build an extensive client list in other industries, while growing my network of creative talent. In 2014, I incorporated and changed the name to Blair Creative Group. Next month will mark the nine year anniversary of being in business, and I’m extremely grateful for the many friends, family, staff and clients who have supported me along the way! I know many people are extremely loyal to you. What do you attribute that degree of loyalty? We provide quality work, on time and on budget, but providing great customer service is our top priority. I enjoy getting to know our clients— both professionally and personally—learning as much as I can about their business in order to help them grow and meet their goals. I believe it’s that personal collaboration that they enjoy the most. Clients often thank us for the open lines of communication, attention to detail, and being easy to work with. And nothing brings a bigger smile to my face to hear how happy they are with the work we’ve done and the results they’ve achieved from it. A bigger compliment is their repeat business and referrals…I’ve been working with many of the same clients for eight years or more, and I truly value their business.

I know you support many local charities and organizations, are there any you care to mention or discuss? I like to support the House of Hope Orlando and New Hope for Kids, both who do a tremendous job supporting and helping children and teens through troubling times. As a cyclist, I ride and raise money supporting other organizations such as the Tour de Cure benefitting the American Diabetes Association, which took place here in Lake Nona last March. I’m currently registered for a few others, with more being considered. Next up is the Champions Ride for Charities in September, benefitting several local charities in Seminole County, which is where I lived before moving to Lake Nona earlier this year. In October, I’m riding in the CF Cycle for Life, benefitting the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, and the Ride-4-Ronald, which benefits the Ronald McDonald House Charities of Central Florida, taking place again in Lake Nona. For Ronald, I’ll be riding with Nona Brew Crew’s Nona Cycle, so look for us around town and as we raise money for this wonderful organization—we welcome your support!

Anything else you would like to mention or highlight? If you’re a business owner, never underestimate the value of quality design and branding. Your logo and brand is the most important marketing tool(s) you have. It’s what distinguishes your company from another, and it’s that image that consumers remember and identify with. We have worked with many companies throughout the years to develop or update their logo and/or marketing tools, and help carry their brand recognition across all of their marketing platforms. Whether you need a new or updated logo, or if your marketing materials need a fresh look, we can help you grow your business. n Thanks again to Renée Blair and Blair Creative Group for helping us bring you the publication. Responding to an IRS Notice By Jason Flowers CPA, CFA, CFP, EA, CTFA

R

eceipt of an IRS Notice in the mail can be intimidating and disconcerting. This article is intended to provide some guidance on how to respond to an IRS notice after your initial shock.

Understand Your Notice Before you attempt to respond to an IRS notice it is important you fully understand the reason behind your notice. The IRS has a tool on their website that allows you the ability to type in the notice number in order to obtain a general description of the issue. You can access the tool using the following address: https://www.irs.gov/individuals/irs-notice-or-letter-for-individual-filers. Your notice will often outline items as reported by you per the return you filed versus items recalculated or calculated by the IRS. Sometimes the reason for an additional assessment of tax, penalties and/or interest is not 100% obvious from your notice. One path to understanding how values were calculated by the IRS is to call the IRS per the 800 number on your notice and speak with an IRS agent. Calling the IRS may not always be the easiest option due to long wait times. Understand Your Return After you begin to understand the purpose of your notice you should review your tax return relative to the tax year in question per the notice. If you do not have easy access to your filed tax return relative to the notice you can access relevant tax return information from the IRS via the tax return transcript portion of the IRS website. IRS transcripts provide you with valuable information on what has (or has not) been filed with the IRS. You can access IRS transcripts at

4 Nona Woman Magazine | August 2017

no charge via the following link: https://www.irs.gov/individuals/get-transcript. Descriptions of the various transcript options available for download can be found at: https://www.irs.gov/individuals/tax-return-transcript-types-and-waysto-order-them. Compose Your Response: Your response to an IRS Notice should include the following: 1. A copy of the IRS Notice you received. 2. A cover letter identifying yourself, the notice reference number/notice date and your reasoning for the position taken per your filed return. You should sign and date your response. 3. Supporting documents and IRS Forms that substantiate your position.

Additional items to Consider:

1. Respond to IRS notices in a timely manner per the notice deadline. 2. Provide any and all IRS Forms requested per the notice. 3. Use Certified Mail Return Receipt when responding to a notice. 4. Keep copies of all correspondences made with the IRS regarding any notices. 5. Mail correspondences to the appropriate address listed in your IRS notice letter. 6. IRS correspondences occur via mail. Do not fall prey to telephone scammers pretending to represent the IRS. Larry Herring CPA and Consultants is available if you would like to explore saving taxes while you save for retirement. TWO POINTS TO CONSIDER BEFORE YOU LIST YOUR HOME By Jeanine Corcoran

A

few months ago, I had written an article entitled, “Six Mistakes When Choosing a Real Estate Agent.” This month’s article will be an extension of that subject with two crucial considerations.

Consider the following: 1. Is this the right time of year to list your home? Our real estate market is most active during the spring and summer; however, because it is August, it doesn’t mean you shouldn’t list your home. There are still buyers who are relocating and buyers who still want to be in a house by the end of the year. If you are ready to list, be sure your home is in “show-ready” condition which means free of clutter, all repairs completed, and fresh neutral paint colors. Arrange your home to appear as close as possible to a model home. 2. Who should you hire to represent you? Choosing the right agent is paramount to receiving the best price for your home. One common occurrence in our industry is agents influencing sellers with words they want to hear to secure their listing. Then months pass with their home still on the market. That’s when the seller hears

from the agent that their home is priced too high. Don’t fall prey to this approach! It is human nature to be easily tempted by more money. The agent who knows and is active in your market will be straightforward and realistic about pricing. Sold comparable properties will be used to determine your listing price and there will be an effective marketing plan in place that will save you time, frustration, and most importantly — money! If you are considering listing your home, consider the time of year, having your home in “show-ready” condition and listing with an agent who knows your community and who will give you the straight facts along with an effective marketing plan. In the end, you will be a much happier seller. n

BUSINESS SPOTLIGHT: STUDIO NINE 13 Please describe your business. Studio Nine 13 is a video production company that specializes in producing video content for businesses of all sizes. We handle all of the editing and post-production needs for national TV shows such as The Daily Buzz and Entrepreneur.

his month we spotlight our friends and supporters, Studio Nine 13. Studio Nine 13 are huge supporters of the magazines and really help me bring them to you!

Can you describe the “culture” at Studio Nine 13? At Studio Nine 13, we believe that everyone is family. We like to develop long term relationships with our customers and continue to help them with all of their video needs. We believe that everyone is entitled to the same level of service, regardless of the size of their business, and we believe in providing a service with honesty and integrity.

The following is a conversation with Owner Kristin Macari.

Can you tell us a little history of the business? Studio Nine 13 was founded on the heels of

adversity. My husband Quinton lost his job on a morning show that went off the air. I had been in marketing for a national homebuilder for over a decade, and jumped at the opportunity to become an entrepreneur in a field we both love. We decided to start our own production company offering video production services to businesses of all sizes. I know many people are extremely loyal to you. What do you attribute that degree of loyalty? I think we provide a superior service to our clients. We are often thanked for being so accessible and responsive to our clients needs. We know that in today’s market, time is a luxury we don’t have, so answering our clients’ questions, returning phone calls, and delivering projects on schedule are very important to us. I know you support many local charities and organizations, are there any you care to mention or discuss? We have many charities that are very important to us, and we often partner with our home church, Kissimmee Christian Church. There is a great ministry that works with our church, Gray’s House of Hope, which is a homeless outreach program in downtown Kissimmee. This organization goes into the heart of a homeless camp each Tuesday to provide food to eat, as well as food for the soul.

I think it’s important to mention to anyone who has a business that video content is King. According to Cisco, video traffic will be 82 percent of all consumer Internet traffic by 2021. If a business isn’t investing in video, it isn’t going to survive. We understand the nuances of online video programming, social media, and broadcast TV. We can help you produce content that will engage your customers, build brand awareness, and help you make sales. Let us help you tell your story. n Thanks again to Studio Nine 13 for helping us bring you the publication.
