Here is Sanvi one of our students studying BSc Physics as part of our partnership with North Eastern University in the US. Sanvi is sharing her story of how she be came passionate about Astronomy and eventually wanting pursue a career in Physics. It is lovely to hear stories of students reaching for the stars with their career aspirations

REACHING FOR THE REACHING FOR THE REACHING FOR THE STARS STARS STARS

“My family loves star-gazing. We hike to nearby hills, place our blankets on the grass, and lay down to gaze at the sky Each time, I’m bewitched; the stars are ethereal as they sparkle in the dreamy, dark night sky.

As a child, I would ask Dad about the North Star, about constellations, about what made up the sky, the universe, and I quietly listened as he answered my silly inquiries In my naivety, the stars seemed unreachable from the ground

Astronomy is fascinating, but the topic was always deemed too “ambitious” for me. Consequently, I underwent many “phases” throughout childhood; from singer to zoologist, to chef to chemist, I wanted to do it all. However, at night, the stars would still be twinkling

Thankfully, this uncertainty ended in highschool On the first day of class, my amazing Physics teacher dimmed the lights as the smartboard flickered on, displaying pictures processed using information from the James Webb Space Telescope They were marvellous; one was an iridescent image of mythicallooking pillars of dust clouds, and another was a beautiful snapshot of a spiral galaxy The experience was unreal, solidifying my future in Astrophysics

Now in college, I'm Pluto Similar to its divergent orbit which still completes its path around the Sun, I’m on a purpose-driven path unique to myself. There are not only stars and constellations anymore; there are supernovae and superclusters, and galaxies and gravity, and infinite phenomena to uncover Nevertheless, I’m excited to continue exploring this world of ours. And one day

…I

will touch the stars.”

INTERVIEW Chris Fullerton

Arthur

Cox

My name is Chris Fullerton and I am a partner in the Employment Law Group at Arthur Cox, one of Ireland’s leading law firms. We are an “all-island” firm with offices in Belfast and Dublin. We also have offices in London, New York, and San Francisco. Our practice encompasses all aspects of corporate and business law.

QUESTION AND ANSWER

WHAT ATTRIBUTES DO YOU LOOK FOR IN A STUDENT APPLYING FOR ARTHUR COX?

We look for students who are not only academically strong but who also demonstrate a genuine interest in the commercial world and the challenges our clients face. Commercial awareness is essential, as our lawyers need to understand how legal advice can drive business success. We value excellent communication skills, as clear and effective communication is at the heart of what we do – whether it’s drafting complex agreements or advising clients in high-pressure situations.

“STAY CURIOUS AND EMBRACE EVERY OPPORTUNITY TO LEARN.”

Teamwork and collaboration are equally important as much of our work involves close cooperation with our colleagues and clients. We also look for resilience and adaptability, as the legal profession can be demanding and fast-paced. Candidates who can thrive under pressure and adapt to new challenges will excel in our environment. Finally, we want to see genuine drive and initiative. Students who are proactive, motivated and eager to learn make the most of the opportunities we offer and stand out as future leaders in our field.

WHAT ADVICE WOULD YOU GIVE TO THOSE STARTING A CAREER IN LAW?

For those starting in law, my advice would be to stay curious and embrace every opportunity to learn. The legal profession is constantly evolving. Be proactive –ask questions, seek feedback and take ownership of your work. Show initiative and take time to understand the bigger picture.
