MESSAGE FROM THE PRINCIPAL & VICE-CHANCELLOR Congratulations to our student-athletes, coaches and team support staff on a successful 201112 athletic season. There have been many highlights this year as we celebrate the outstanding performances of our Gaels teams. Back to back women's soccer National Championships and women's ultimate national champions. Provincial championships in cycling, men's fencing, women's soccer, men's volleyball and the first ever in women's volleyball. We can also celebrate the first indoor national championship ever hosted by our school which was a great success on all fronts. Record breaking crowds enjoyed some of the best volleyball the nation has to offer. The Gaels won their first every quarter-final match and ended the tournament with their best showing ever in fourth place. I would like to recognize the student-athletes who have earned academic All-Star status this past year. I also commend our Gaels for their work in the community contributing to local charities through projects that grow community, health & wellness and sport. I would like to extend my appreciation to our dedicated coaches, support staff, alumni and team supporters who combine to create a positive environment that supports our studentathletes in pursuing excellence in athletics and academia. To our graduating student-athletes who will be departing for other endeavours after this year, I wish you the best of luck. Your Queen's experience will certainly serve you well as you depart for the next chapter in your lives. BANNER SEASONS
After an 0-2 start to the season, the football team went on a win streak heading into the playoffs taking their next six straight games along with their opening round playoff match against Laurier. The men's volleyball team caught fire at the end of their season winning their final six regular season games and all three playoff games winning the OUA championship. SEASON RECAP The 2011-12 season marked the beginning of a new era for the Gaels basketball program as it goes down as the first under head coach Stephan Barrie. A very young squad had difficulty for much of the season but improved consistently as the season went along and held tough in very closely contested games. The Gaels played their way back into playoff contention with a solid weekend against the Royal Military College, defeating the Paladins twice by margins of 41 and 31 points respectively. However, two nailbiting losses to York caught up with the team as they finished just behind the Lions for the final playoff spot.

In the first round they ran into the top ranked McGill Redmen, eventually going down in two games.

20% of the world’s freshwater is in Canada. Shouldn’t 100% of it be conserved? Nature needs freshwater to flourish, and communities need healthy rivers and watersheds to prosper. That’s why we’re dedicated to helping WWF conserve and protect freshwater resources in Canada. And, we’re trying hard not to waste a drop in the production of our beverages. Since 2005, we’ve improved our water use ratio by 24%. Now that’s refreshing news. To learn more about what we’re doing and why we’re doing it, join us at livepositively.ca
