SEASON RECAP

Looking to make waves in the OUA this year the men’s basketball team did just that showing why they belong among the best in the conference. A 6-1 start to the first term marked a program best for the Gaels and was highlighted by an upset of the No.4 Brock Badgers on home court at the ARC. The second half of the season left Queen’s with five straight road games to start 2016 where the Gaels were only able to come away with one victory. A 99-81 loss at the Ravens nest against Carleton to close off the trip was a record night for Sukhpreet Singh as he set a new career high with 39 points in a game. A 4-3 record the rest of the way, one of which was a thrilling OT win at home to Western, put the Gaels at 11-8 on the season. Queen’s drew the Varsity Blues at home in the playoff opening round. A packed ARC was treated to an 87-70 win on home court by the Gaels who did not disappoint. Riding their momentum Queen’s visited Ottawa in the quarter-final and pushed them to the brink before a last second lay-in gave the Gee-Gees a 73-72 win.

SEASON RECAP

In their last season at the old Richardson Stadium, the Gaels opened the season looking to make their way back into the playoffs after a one-year hiatus.

RESULTS • Fourth in OUA (5-3) • Lost to Carleton in OUA quarter-final (39-8)

The Gaels opened up their season at home to the Carleton Ravens and veterans Jesse Andrews and Doug Corby lead the offence each scoring a pair of touchdowns in the 34-24 victory.

OUA ALL-STARS • Second Team: Doug Corby, Dillon Wamsley • All-Rookie: Chris Osei-Kusi

After a Labour Day weekend road loss at Ottawa and a Hall of Fame weekend win at home vs Waterloo, the Gaels prepared themselves for a trip to London to take on the rival Mustangs. The No.3 Western team handed Queen`s a 48-25 defeat despite the Gaels putting up one of the better offensive performances of the year against the Mustangs. The next three games saw Queen`s rattle off three straight victories including an upset of the No.5 Guelph Gryphons 23-15. The highlight of that game was a 108yard touchdown pass from Nate Hobbs to Matteo Del Brocco setting a new Queen`s record. Defensively the Gaels picked off Guelph on three separate occasions and the following week found themselves in the CIS top 10 rankings.

TEAM AWARDS • To be announced at football year end banquet SPECIAL HONOURS • Curtis Carmichael: CIS Russ Jackson award, OUA Russ Jackson nominee

• Dillon Wamsley: CIS Football special teams

player of the week (Aug. 31) OUA Football special teams player of the week (Aug. 31, Oct. 26) • Luke McQuilkin: CIS Football defensive player of the week (Oct. 5) OUA Football defensive player of the week (Oct. 5) • Matt Pendergast: OUA Football defensive player of the week (Oct. 19) • Jesse Andrews: Queen`s Athlete of the Week (Aug. 31, Sept. 14) • CIS Top 10: 2 of 10 weeks and highest rank No.10

A sold out homecoming crowd was on hand for the final home game of the regular season but the Golden Hawks fought for a playoff spot beating Queen`s 49-26. Despite the loss, the Gaels still secured a home playoff game. Queen`s finished as the fourth seed in the OUA and drew the fifth-seeded Carleton Ravens for their playoff match. Queen`s couldn`t find an offensive rhythm against an improved Ravens team from their first meeting in the season opener and lost 39-8 in the final game at the old Richardson Stadium. Curtis Carmichael was the OUA nominee for the CIS Russ Jackson award and became just the fourth Gael to be honoured with the award given to an athlete for excellence in football, academics and citizenship. Queen`s also had three players recognized for their efforts at the OUA level as both Doug Corby and Dillon Wamsley were Second-Team OUA All-Stars and Chris Osei-Kusi was named to the All-Rookie team.

SEASON RECAP

The 2015 women’s rugby season will go down as one the best the program has had, entering the season as the CIS Championship hosts and not disappointing when the nation turned its eyes toward the Gaels. A young group laced with veteran talent started the season defeating the defending CIS silver medalist and OUA Champion McMaster Marauders at home to start the season. From there Queen’s went 3-1 to finish second in the Russell division. After defeating York in the quarter-final Queen’s lost to Guelph and Western to finish fourth in the OUA. As a result, they entered the national championship as the eighth seed. The Gaels stunned the number one seed Acadia taking a 24-17 win in front of boisterous supportive Gaels crowd at Nixon. In the national semifinal, the Gaels once again pulled through defeating the fifth seed Concordia in a thrilling 2713 victory in front of a capacity crowd. In the championship final, the Gaels met their first opponents of the year, the McMaster Marauders. Their OUA rivals proved to be too much and the Gaels finished as the CIS silver medalists, a new team best result.

SEASON RECAP

A veteran team entered the OUA season looking to return to the OUA Final Four for the first time since winning the OUA banner in 2011-12. The Gaels split their first two games of the year beating RMC and losing to Ryerson but were able to rattle off six straight wins from there to find their way into the CIS Top 10 rankings. A loss to No.1 McMaster was followed by a win over a tough Waterloo team to close out the first semester. The Gaels opened up January at No.1 McMaster and took a set off the defending OUA Champions in a 3-1 loss. From there Queen’s won four of their next six games before closing out the season at home with three straight wins including a 3-0 shutout of Western. In the OUA playoffs, the Gaels drew a York team that had put Queen’s out of the playoffs in two of the past three season. This time, around the Gaels, had no trouble getting a 3-0 sweep in front of a big home crowd. At the OUA final four Queen’s wasn’t able to get a medal falling to Ryerson in the semifinal and losing another close match to Waterloo for the bronze.
