Note from the Editor Welcome to the December 2015 issue of Queen Size Magazine. Who is ready for the New Year? If you said no then join the club. It feels like only a couple of months ago we were discussing how much we hated the snow and how we could not wait for summer. And if feels like yesterday we were talking about how hot it was. Now we are Christmas shopping and getting ready for the New Year. Well as you can see, time waits for no one. Don’t keep assuming that we will always have tomorrow to do what we should be doing today. Before you know it, you are going to look back and your kids and grandkids and wonder what happened to the time.

I was asked just recently how many issues I have released so far. It made me realize that I am soon coming up on the release of Queen Size Magazine’s 50th issue. To God be the Glory. I went from trying to find work at other magazines to having my own; and it all feels like just last year. With that being said; I know that I say thank you all the time, but I really and truly want to thank you all for all of your support. I could not do this alone. After you are done reading this issue, set a major goal that you wish to accomplish and then set it in motion little by little. Make it happen. You owe it to yourself to be successful.

TIME TO TAKE IT TO THE NEXT LEVEL| BY SARAH CURVYBEAUTY AUTHOR
Time to take it to the next level!! There’s nothing more important than switching up your exercise routines. Balancing between cardio and weightlifting, will not only help you lose weight faster, it will help your drop inches and sculpt your body. In fear of bulking up and losing their feminine features, most women do not want to use weights, however, that is very false. Simply start by using 5lb., dumbbells and gradually increasing the weight of the dumbbells as your exercise routine gets easier. There are many different ways to use your dumbbells and if you need to target a specific area on your body, the dumbbells will definitely begin to define your curves. For quick maximum results, every other day you should be switching up between cardio and weightlifting. The amount of time you spend on cardio and weightlifting is up to you, but for the best results each session should be no less than 30 minutes. On your weightlifting days, you can still do cardio but limit your cardio session to about 30 minutes so you do not over work your body.
SQUATS!! Want to eliminate your belly fat? Squats will be your best friend! At first you’ll question you’re relationship with your new found best friend and be sore and wonder what type of friend would do this to you! But after a couple weeks, you will see the difference that squats has done for your; lower portion of your belly, your thighs, calves and of course your butt and you’ll thank your new bestie! Be sure to talk to a personal trainer or someone you trust, to make sure that you are doing squats properly, by doing improper squats (or any other exercise) it could do some serious damage to your body and that’s the last thing you want when your motivation is high and you’re ready to shed those pounds.
7
moderation is key and there are exercises that can be done to help with eliminating belly fat. Decreasing your intake of carbs and sugar will help lose some belly fat almost immediately. By replacing white rice with brown rice, white pasta with whole wheat pasta and white potatoes with red potatoes, that alone will help you out significantly. As far as sugar goes, choose your sugar intake very carefully and try to only eat sugary things maybe once or twice per week, and when choosing a snack that contains sugar, try to choose something that has no more than 7 grams of sugar in it and stick to the serving size amount. Stay away from the artificial sweeteners and things that are labeled sugar free because they usually have those artificial sweeteners in it and those artificial sweeteners tend to make you crave sweets even more plus it’s really just overall unhealthy for you. If you are craving sweets, there are plenty of fruits that will satisfy your sweet tooth! Don’t go overboard with those fruits though, they contain sugar and yes it is a natural sugar, but that still needs to be eaten in moderation.
Keep it going!! Don’t be afraid to try new things when it comes to both exercise and healthy eating. If you fall off the wagon, don’t beat yourself up; just make sure you pick yourself up and get right back on. Remember forming a habit takes time and sometimes we tend to go back to what we are familiar with, so if you’re unable to fight off those cravings, don’t worry about it too much, just try not to eat your normal portion size. You’ve got this, there’s no turning back now! Keep moving forward and be patient with yourself, focus on your goal weight and take photos of yourself so you can see the changes. If you’re sticking to your goal you’ll love the changes to come. See you next month! Sarah_CurvyBeauty
Tackling Belly Fat!! Most women have belly fat that they wish they can get rid of fast, but to be honest belly fat is usually the hardest to get rid of. You can thank your old friends; carbohydrates and sugar for that! Honestly, you do not have to completely eliminate anything from your diet,

QUEEN SIZE MAGAZINE PRESENTS
“To Answer Your Question” By SHIRLEY BEALE
JOB VS LOVE Question: Hello Shirley. I was recently offered a job out of town which is a great opportunity to finally be stable financially and emotionally. The problem is my partner. If I take the position, I don’t think our relationship will survive. If I don’t take the position, financially we will continue to struggle. What should I do? SHIRLEY’S RESPONSE: Hello Job vs. Love. Congratulations on the job offer. My suggestion is to pray about your choices and wait for an answer. As you are weighing your choices, talk to your partner and see if he or she is amenable to making the move with you. If that is not an option, maybe the two of you can discussion the benefits vs. the drawbacks of the move. If the distance isn’t far, maybe you can alternate weekend commutes or possibly driving daily to and fro until your finances will allow you to make a more permanent choice. With today’s economy, your decision should be given much thought and prayer. Careful consideration of you, your partner, what your future holds and the happiness of your relationship should factor in your decision. I wish you the best in your future and your decision.
TO TALK OR NOT TO TALK FOR FRESH START Question: TO TALK OR NOT TO TALK FOR FRESH START SHIRLEY’S RESPONSE: If you are talking about a fresh start, bringing up the past will serve no purpose. To me, a fresh start is just that.... FRESH !!!! Leave whatever happened in the past in the past. Unless the consequences of the past will have detrimental results to your future, leave them in the past and enjoy your fresh start. Not everyone gets a fresh start. Take advantage of it and learn from your mistakes. Be blessed.
DIVORCED BUT NOT FREE Question: IOkay Shirley. I’ve met the most perfect man. Perfect, perfect, perfect. He’s sexy, fun, just perfect. I would say he is my soul mate. We have fun together and I can see spending the rest of my life with him. The problem is I
WWW.QUEENSIZEMAGAZINE.COM|DECEMBER 2015 ISSUE
can’t see myself marrying this man because I’m getting a significant amount of alimony from my ex husband. If I get remarried, the payments stop. This alimony can finance a great life for me and my new love. Do you think that is wrong? SHIRLEY’S RESPONSE: Well Divorced but not Free, I can’t tell you if it’s right or wrong for you but for me, not remarrying in order to continue alimony payments would be torture. Life is precious and if this man is so “perfect’, no amount of money would be worth it. What are you going to do if he asks you to marry him and he doesn’t want to be a permanent boyfriend or companion? I wouldn’t rush into marriage however I would give a lot of thought to putting your finances over love. If your new love is good with being a permanent boyfriend, then you have no worries. However if he is a decent man and wants to be united in holy matrimony, then ......Houston, we’ve got a problem. Ultimately, the decision is one you’re going to have to live with. For me, love would have to rule over finances. Good luck.
COLLEGE BOUND OR NOT Question: Hi Ms. Shirley. I’m about to graduate from high school in less than 6 months. Everyone is on me about finding a school and a career. I have no clue what I want to do or where I want to go. Am I supposed to know the answer to that now? SHIRLEY’S RESPONSE: Hello my dear. Congratulations on your upcoming graduation. Many young people your age find themselves in the same position. While some people know their career paths early in life, many don’t. Take your time and choose a career that you love, not like. Make the decision based on your desires and not what someone wants you to be or do. You can take classes in college while simultaneously giving serious thought to what your passion is. Calm down, my dear. You have plenty of time to decide. But don’t wait too long. Additionally, when you do decide on a career choice, it doesn’t have to be permanent. You have the prerogative to change your mind.........at anytime during your lifetime. Always step out on faith. Follow your dreams and enjoy your life and the way to do that is by doing something that makes you happy.

JOSEPH MERRELL Hello, I am Joseph Merrell owner of Joseph Merrell Photography. I thoroughly enjoy capturing ordinary moments and events and making them extraordinary lifelong memories. Joseph Merrell Photography was created in 2006 and has continued to grow with great success and recognition from past clients and people seeing my work. With dramatic and mood setting photography, I focus on creativity and bringing clients something innovative and spectacular. I feel flat lighting and certain types of props take away from the authenticity of images. When people view my work, I want them to see the subject’s thoughts, feelings, etc. If a picture is truly worth a thousand words, I want the correct and appropriate verbiage captured in each photograph. I am willing and capable of capturing basic shots, but I prefer unique portraiture over the average image. I have several years experience with image enhancing software that allows me to do more with your images and provide the best quality with a variety of looks. I have studied the contextual information on photography, but much of the knowledge I possess come from trial and error; shooting as much as I can as often as I can. My goal is to provide my clients with an unforgettable experience. Again, I love photography and how many avenues an image can take me down‌there are so many distinctive ways to capture a person or thing.

Joseph Merrell Photography
WWW.QUEENSIZEMAGAZINE.COM|DECEMBER 2015 ISSUE
SERESTA PILLOW
19
My name is Seresta Pillow, but I’m affectionately known by my friends and family as “CeCe.“ I was born an only child in Nashville, TN where I attended Stratford High School graduating with honors and later furthered my education at the historic Tennessee State University. I am a single mother of a beautiful little girl who means the world to me. I’ve struggled with my weight the majority of the 24 years of my life but it wasn’t until the unexpected death of my first child; my 3 month old baby daughter in 2010 that my weight began to spiral out of control. I became severely depressed, inconsolable and heavier using food as a comfort. I got tired of being known as the “cute big girl” or the “big girl with a pretty face.” Although I have never weighed under 200 pounds, imagine how I felt when the scale told me the truth, which it (the scale) does….245 pounds! I unknowingly had paid through my body for all the late night snacks, partying, impromptu celebrations, drinking, eating while depressed and etc. But it was then when reality hit me, after I got off the scale and stepped back on praying it would read a different weight….a lower weight… which it did not. Right at that moment I decided to take control of my life, my happiness, my future, the example I wanted and needed to set for my daughter….and my weight. I would definitely take control of my weight… and I did!
inquiries regarding who my fitness trainer was which was none other than…me. I was my own personal trainer and I am proud to say that I have gone from a size 22/24 to a size 8/10. It’s one thing to hear about a transformation such as mine and others, but to see it is a whole different ball game. Friends, Family, Co-workers, Church Members, Gym members, even my neighbors began to become interested in changing their lives and transforming themselves into what they always talked about but never thought they could ever be….healthier, slimmer, more self confident and all the good things that come along with weight loss. So seeing that people were actually sincere about joining me on this weight loss journey I decided to assist others in helping them reach their goals as I reached and maintained mine. My clientele is awesome and the people I now work with motivate and encourage me more than they know. They’ve even encouraged me to create a motivational team I call “LIFT” which means Levels In Fitness Training; I will be launching a new clothing fitness line for that called “Curvy Fit.” Not only has the decision to change my life changed my life, it has also allowed God to open doors for me that I could have never imagined and for that I am forever blessed and grateful…. and healthier. Seresta Pillow (“CeCe”)
Through my weight loss journey, God has done phenomenal things in my life which I give Him all the Glory. I learned that usually other people notice your weight loss before you do and that is when I began to get a lot of compliments and

INTERVIEW WITH SERESTA PILLOW| BY TAWANA BLASSINGAME
21
Tawana: Let me first tart by giving you our sincerest condolences on the loss of your child. It is definitely understandable how this all began; but you know what they say, you can’t have a testimony without a test. I am a firm believer that God makes no mistakes. CeCe: Absolutely, I could have not said it better myself. Tawana: You said that you never really weighed less than 200lbs; so to gain that extra 45 pounds is it safe to say that you have always been at least somewhat fit? CeCe: Far from it, being 5’2 and weighing in at 200 plus pounds is considered obese in the medical field, but I loved every inch of me. Tawana: Tell me about life growing up for you. CeCe: Life for me growing up physically was dreading PE, always being picked last for the neighborhood games, and being avoided by all the boys. I was used to it so it didn’t bother me! Tawana: Were you the popular or shy girl? CeCe: I wouldn’t say popular, but me shy? Oh no, I was considered a social butterfly I knew no strangers. Tawana: Has weight always been an issue for you? CeCe: I had been a plus size girl my whole life, so I never seen a problem, I thought my size was natural , I was comfortable, you couldn’t tell me I wasn’t cute and curvy! Tawana: Besides being a Fitness Trainer, what else do you do for a living? CeCe: As of now I manage a financial company in Nashville by day, And a event coordinator by night. Tawana: Where did you learn the tips needed to properly train yourself in getting fit? CeCe: I socialized; I reached out to 3 different types of people. Those that have lost weight, losing weight, or those that have always been physically fit their whole life. I took from all of them and found what worked for me. Tawana: Did you have any weak moments during your get fit journey? CeCe: oh of course I did, you even said it earlier; you can’t have a testimony without a test! My weak moments came when I had to turning down while all my friends were turning up! Not that I did not want to, but sometimes you have to isolate yourself to get where you’re trying to go. Tawana: Did you have a target weight or clothing size when you started out? CeCe: oh yeah, I told myself that as long as I got my weight back down to 200 pounds I would be satisfied, and I did. I was back in my size 18 and it felt great! Then I challenged myself a little more, and got down to a size 16. I was so amazed at my results; it was like I had become addicted to my progress. So I continued to set goals for myself, even till this day! There’s always room for improvement Tawana: Can you share some tips for people reading this who also want to take back their lives and losing weight? CeCe:The best advice from me to you is it’s never too late. It all begins with self, and the time is now, stop thinking about it and be about it. Stop waiting on brother, sister, cousin, uncle and motivate self! One change can make a difference, whether it be in food choice or a jog around the block. Tawana: Your story is admirable and I really commend you on your strength. What is on the horizons for you and your newfound love of fitness training? Where do you see your company in the next few years? Cece: Thank you! Thank you! Fitness training is only the beginning! We’re talking motivational seminars, training tours, virtual fitness and much more! This is a brand in the making, so get ready! Tawana: Can you provide your contact info (social media pages, website) so people can keep updated on you and your progress? Congratulations to you and continued success. Cece: Absolutely, feel free to join the LIFT motivational group on Facebook for more and future updates!

Fat Girl I’m fat. The type of fat that has rolls forming on my neck, under my arms, and like a pyramid on my stomach. I’m the unhealthy fat that doctors sit in their chairs behind their comfortable desks and give me the parent glare. They glare at me and try to come up with the words to convince me that I should stop eating greasy, fried, cheesy, processed food. That I should start reading the side with the ingredients and nutrition facts and pay heed to things high in fat, carbs, and sugar. Doctors have given me nutrition plans and shaken their head at the results at the follow up visits. I’m hard headed. I’m stubborn. Most of all, I like to eat what I want. I have tried to eat healthy. I was on the straight and narrow for about two weeks. But then I had a craving for McDonald fries. No one makes them like McDonalds. They are especially good when they are hot with a light dusting of salt and a side of a vanilla ice cream cone; crisp and delicious. Somehow I was able to ignore that craving, and tried to be good until I got a craving for pizza. Let me stop right here and say I can eat pizza for breakfast, lunch, dinner, snack, brunch....pretty much at anytime, anywhere. Now that we have established that you can understand why I bought a NY style pizza slice and loved it. And so began the downfall of my unhealthy eating stretch. One day I was driving along during my lunch about to stop at the bank when I got this sharp pain in my chest. It was so sharp I couldn’t breathe; all I could do was sit there and try not to wreck my car. Was I having a stroke?! A heart attack?! My adrenaline shot up and I could feel each of my heart beats. Each beat brought excruciating pain. And as abruptly as it started it stopped. I had managed to swerve into a Walgreens parking lot and my car was haphazardly sitting sideways crossing two parking spaces as I tried to catch my breath. I was scared. Before I got to the bank I had the sharp pains two more times. In the days that followed I told myself maybe it was a muscle spasm. Maybe my heart was trying to clear a blockage and it worked. I didn’t know nor did I consult a doctor. About a month passed since the original incident and I was on a road trip to visit my sister when the pains started in my chest. I gripped the steering wheel and struggled to breathe through the pain. It took everything in me to control the car and stay in my lane. I made a vow then if I made it home I would go to the doctor. Thankfully I made it back home safely. I had scheduled an appointment that next day with the doctor. I had X-Rays taken, blood drawn, and a urine sample. I knew what the doctor would say I just didn’t want to hear it. Sure enough the doctor, a little Indian lady, who spoke softly but stern, sat down across from me in the examination room. She took her glasses off and said look you are killing yourself. You won’t make it to age 50 at this rate. You are fooling yourself if you think all you need to do is exercise. The proper eating diet is crucial. She gave me the parent glare I was so familiar with and said I’m putting you on medication. ”No!” I shouted. ”I can do this.” She said, ”You have been given several times to change your diet, this needs to be taken care of immediately before you fall over and die.” You see the truth of the matter is I’m actually not fat. I’m 5’10, 165lbs, I fit a size 8-9 pair of pants and dress depending on the day. I look healthy on the outside. I exercise at least 3 times a week and drink plenty of fluids. In the past I thought because I was physically fit I could eat what I want. Why should I have to be on a diet? That was my mentality throughout my 20’s. Now I’m in my 30’s and my eating habits are weighing more and more of a toll on my body internally. I could no longer ignore the fact that I could NOT just eat what I wanted when I wanted. It made me sad because I soooo enjoyed that unhealthy, greasy, makes you feel bloated after you eat it, food. The doctor sure did prescribe me medicine and wrote out a diet that wasn’t as strict as I thought it would be. Maybe this wouldn’t be so bad. Maybe I will live to see 50.

THE COLOR BOX By MARIA WILLIAMS
Makeup Tip from The Color Box By Maria Bullet Proof Makeup. Let’s prevent Shine and Sweat Hello to all my Divas and Dudes Kings and Queens of Queen Size Magazine. I hope all is well with everyone. I am getting all excited for the holiday season. I am so Makeup ready for the Christmas holidays. One common issues that I am frequently asked as a beauty consultant is “how do I keep my makeup from fading and sliding off by the end of the day?”. “How do I keep my makeup heat resistant during the summer months?” and the final and jackpot question “ Maria you post AM and PM “selfies” on Facebook and why does your makeup still look fresh after a long day? “ Well I do have the answer for these questions but the answer to the last question I usually reply “I WOKE UP LIKE THIS” LOL. But all joke aside my beauties I stumbled upon a long time industry secret as a certified makeup artist that now can be purchased by the everyday woman who uses makeup. The funny part is that you as the average consumer know what this is. It is called “Setting Spray”. My personal three favorite setting sprays are Setting Spray by Sacha Cosmetics, NYX Dewy and Moist Setting Spray and of course my own private label Setting Spray for The Color Box By Maria. I use these sprays on any given day as well on my personal clients. How I use these products are in the actual application of my foundation. I spray my applicator whether it be a beauty blender or my foundation brush prior to applying my foundation. Once I apply all of my product i.e.: foundation, eye shadow, blush, lipstick and setting powder I give myself a final over all spray. Setting spray works wonders and “mattifies” the shine especially for oily skin. I like this method better because the use of setting powder can result in a “cakey” finish if over applied. I totally recommend that you pick up setting spray and keep this in your beauty arsenal. Now on to my professional secret weapon. To answer the questions as to why my makeup stays fresh from AM to PM with very little or no touch ups (lipstick only) I use a product called Mehron Barrier Spray. This product is a professional product that has been used in the theater industry. Recently this has been the “go to “spray amongst many makeup artists today. This is the bomb for brides and prom girls. This spray even works great with airbrushed make up. I use Mehron Barrier Spray in conjunction with my other setting sprays. I do not recommend using it in the application process but it can be used after you apply your moisturizer, prior to you foundation and as your final spray. The learning curve with this product is that less is more and if you spray this product to close to the face you will produce water marks that will be clearly visible in the face. I have done this several times and the correction trick is” just dab it dry with a blush brush”. I use Mehron on all of my clients including the ones who use camouflage make up. So my beauties you are now officially “in the know” on the industry secret to keeping your makeup looking fresh all day long. See the websites listed below for the products I mentioned. If you have any beauty questions, need a beauty consult, or custom blend foundation please email me at thecolorbox69@gmail.com or call 646 717 3020. I am here to assist. Patrice Purnell
Patrice Purnell is a 27 year old single mother of two beautiful girls. She was adopted at the age of 6 months by her maternal grandmother, with whom she grew up with in a neighborhood called Shady Oaks. Patrice transitioned into modeling in 2013 when she was asked to do an urban culture fashion show. She agreed to do it for the fun of it because she never considered modeling to be anything serious for her; nonetheless she still enjoyed taking photos and she loved fashion. One of the young ladies from that show reached out to her and asked her if she was interested in trying out for TAPS (Thick and Proud Sisters); she did but sadly didn’t make it. She tried out for more shows, some she made and some she didn’t. She began to realize how much she liked modeling; it because her second love to dancing. One of the things that I love the most about attending events is getting the opportunity to network with people; especially when they turn into opportunities to work closer together. While attending The Face of Kurvacious event in August I was blessed to meet a beautiful young lady that I would later come to truly adore. Genese Valentine was presenting with an award at the event; after hearing the wonderful things that was said about her I had to meet her and talk to her myself. I researched her first (yes Genese I Googled you. LOL) and then I reached out to her. My phone conversation with her was pleasant so I had to offer my services after hearing about her company. I’d offered Genese press coverage at her event because I belied in it just that much; I felt that more people needed to know more about what she was doing and why. I had heard of the Color of Teal event for a few years but due to scheduling conflicts I never had the chance to attend. This year I was blessed to be a part of it and I hope to never miss another one. The information I walked away with was golden and it made you understand MORE, the importance of taking care of and understanding my body.
In an ongoing celebration of Gynecologic Cancer Awareness month, Color of Teal hosted an intimate ”Teal Affair” welcoming over 100 cancer survivors and guests, on October 3, 2015, at The Center in New York. Event sponsors included: Summer’s Eve, SK Energy, L’Oreal, Fairway Market, Unilever (Dove), and Starbuck’s. The theme for the 4th Annual Teal Affair was entitled ”Celebration of A Survivor Brunch.” Guests enjoyed an assortment of beverages and desserts, with a warm atmosphere. Flutist, Dara Marie provided an ambiance by providing guests with a welcoming selection, there after event host, Charlotte Rogers-Brown, welcomed guests, speakers and participants. For a second year in a row, Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center’s, Dr. Carol L. Brown, M.D. Cancer provided information surrounding reproductive cancers, and welcomed an intimate Q&A with guests. Motivational Speaker and ovarian cancer survivor, LaShawn Woodward-Hall provided us with an in-depth experience of her journey with ovarian cancer. Megan Stewart, founder of PCOSAA. org was named ”Survivor of the Year”, and Donna Johnson was named ”Humanitarian of the Year” for your advocacy for ovarian cancer awareness. Guests were treated to a live performance by singer, Tawanna Lee, and Silent Praise showcased their praise dancing skills. The afternoon’s event also included fashion pieces from Big Girls United, and Jordan Valois. The event welcomed vendors, Jamberry, G. Valentine Connection, Stella & Dot, Oregano Coffee, Kei Kei’s D’lights, Nathallia’s Catering, Cocktail Vixens, Traci Lynn and Younique. Donations and proceeds raised from this event benefitted the Memorial Slone-Kettering Cancer Center: Gynecology Department and the TEAL Care Co-Pay Assistance Program for Women.

THE COLOR OF TEAL 2015
33
Genese Valentine was born and raised in Queens, New York, currently resides in Yonkers, New York. Ms. Valentine began her career path right after high school and throughout college as a paralegal/legal assistant, but always had a passion to produce events. After obtaining her Bachelors of Science degree in Economics from St. John’s University, and launching an event planning company, Events by Ge Valenti, Ms. Valentine chose to pursue a career based on practicality rather than passion, but felt unfulfilled. With her mother passing away to ovarian cancer in 2002, Ms. Valentine felt there was more to life than just producing events. While spending approximately 9 years of perfecting her craft in event production, as a tribute to her mother, Ms. Valentine merged her passion with her purpose and created Color of Teal, Inc. Currently, Ms. Valentine is the Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Color of Teal. Its mission is to educate women on how to open a dialogue with their gynecologist, the warning symptoms of gynecological cancers, and advise them of various methods of treatment and available care. In the past, Ms. Valentine was a “Big Sister” at the Boys & Girls Club of America; and volunteer at various hospice centers. Ms. Valentine is a public/motivational speaker and travels all over to share information with women, with ages ranging from 9 and up! While possessing dedication, enthusiasm, and a down-to-earth witty disposition, Ms. Valentine has made her mark in the community by fulfilling her life’s purpose. Christa Jenelle
Christa Jenelle has been modeling since she was 15 years old. She is now 21 and still doing what she loves. When she is not in school studying to get her degree in the Arts, she can be found doing as many photo shoots as possible, helping out photography students, upcoming business’s, as well as new clothing lines. In her modeling tenure, she has done three official clothing shoots; the first was for the upcoming clothing line “Fresh Air”. The second was modeling for Laverne Parker’s personal knit and crochet designs. The third was for a silkscreen company called 1Aeon. Christa is trying to show the world that short models with a normal size build can make it in this business. In the past year she has had over 200 modeling jobs, paid and non-paid. Modeling is the only income I have, so I would say that I do model part-time and dedicate a lot of my time and effort into my modeling career.

DANGERS OF LOW ESTEEM IN DATING| CARRIECE JEFFERSON
39
Dangers of Low Self Esteem in Dating The two of you meet, exchange numbers, have a few conversations and before you know it, the dating has begun. The question is: are you mentally stable to handle the dating scene? Many women would argue the hypothesis but when you truly look at dating, the outings are just the tip of the iceberg. The purpose of dating is to see if the two of you are compatible for future potential of relationship advancement. The danger of dating occurs when someone with low self-esteem have the expectations that their counterparts are responsible for replacing the lack of love they have for themselves or to repair damaged emotions lingering from previous relational experience. Transference in dating isn’t only unfair to the other party but you’re basically functioning as a child in an adult world. The past should be kept in the past. Dating can be an overwhelming if the hopeless romantic continues to attract people who don’t have their best interest. Basically, there’s a pattern of having high hopes in the beginning only to be disappointed in the end. A person with low self esteem tends to attract narcissists, who are going to take advantage of their weakness in some type of way. Men who are narcissists can immediately detect if a female lacks self-confidence or has insecurity issues. To him, it communicates that you’re codependent and seeking validation in others. In other words what you’re doing is just giving him your worth and telling him to place a value on it. A person of narcissism is also codependent because they always need someone to manipulate. You are to know your worth. Asking him to validate you as a person, always boost your emotional well-being, and just build a world around you is asking way too much of him.
Not setting standards can be a problem in the dating world also because if you don’t communicate clear boundaries in the beginning, the other person now feels that they can just walk all over you. Having too high of standards can be just as damaging as not having any boundaries because most times the expectations are unrealistic. When you’re dating a person, you are to learn things about them and make it an experience. Too many times women go on one date with a guy and the next thing you know, you all are bed buddies. Intercourse was never designed to serve as an audition for dating someone. If you’ve been the person who’s been on one bad dating experience after another, it’s time to spend time with yourself and see where you went wrong. Sometimes our counterparts do things against us but we are only victims temporarily. There’s a healing point in our lives where we must move on and not rehash the past. Our self esteem is valuable meaning that it isn’t something that we just give to people and allow them to manage it for us. Low self-esteem is dangerous and it enables self inflicted wounds. On the other hand, healthy self-esteem enables us to make logical decisions instead of making decisions based on our feelings. Healthy self-esteem also enables you to set boundaries in terms of what you will and will not tolerate in relationships.

Terilyn K Bridal and Ann Nahari Couture Bridal Runway Show
Terilyn K
Ann Nahari
I can smell Fall in the air! It’s 12:0pm Sunday, October 11th and it’s beautiful outside. I am making my way down town to W. 28th street to attend to the Terlyin K Bridal and Ann Nahari Couture Bridal Runway Show. Let me tell you I’ve never attended a bridal show before and I am pretty excited. It is tucked away in the middle of the block. Come to think of it I really expected an extravagant building with crystals and glass windows. As I enter into the building I anticipate my reception into the show room. I reach the floor and the doors open! Laid out in White walls and modern furniture hosting a ton of people. I am calm because I am not late. (Could have taken the train) In introduce myself as Taneyasha Williams press from Queen-size Magazine. I’m registered and handed a folder with information about the show. I take my seat and await the other part of my team to arrive. Tawanna Blassingame (CEO/Editor), Philip Drew (Exec. Director/Photographer) and Alexandra Castro (Model) finally appear. After networking a while the show begins and all I can think is “I want to be a bride”. The dresses are beautiful. It’s true fashion. Not many embellishments but sleek, sophisticated and shiny! The music is playing and the first model steps on the runway designed by Ann Nahari : A cream wedding dress that accentuates your curves worn by Jakaliene Rivera A Short lace white baby doll and robe for the wedding night worn by Stevi Luttery White harem pants-tank top and robe for the honey moon worn by Jemsika Mirabuto The energy is flowing and the ladies are whispering. The lemon drop cake is too die for. Accompanied by a chocolate cupcake with vanilla frosting. Just what I like treats at the show. The next set of models hit the runway designed by Terilyn K Blush pink sheath dress w/veil worn by Mocha Blush pink Lingerie w/short veil worn by Liris Crosse Silk Organza wedding dress worn by Tiffany Banks Sweep robe w/chemise worn by Asia Monet White sateen Pajamas worn by Kaylea Moss Silk organza Jump suite worn by Christina Mendez I look on in aww of what hard work and determination develops into. The vision of the designer is incredibly clear for the plus size woman. To ensure that we have the opportunity to look and feel beautiful on this special day. Not worrying about will the dress fit or having the ability to go in and pick out a dress that is ready to wear. It leaves no room for question, with showing you that they are both very talented and precise. These ladies have captured a moment in time plus size woman. A memory that you can cherish and share with your daughters. It was an amazing event. I had the pleasure of meeting both woman and walking away with a great. Upon meeting Ms. Nahari I learned that she is based in Atlanta and partnered with Ms. Tarilyn to create these pieces displayed on the runway.
