A parody of the long-running 24 Hours of Le Mans race and the concept of ‘lemon cars’, 24 Hours of LeMons is a series of endurance events created in the USA for a niche in the market for a fun, inexpensive way for friends to build a racecar with all the elements and safety of professional
circuit racing for a fraction of the cost. 24 Hours of LeMons USA was the brainchild of a local San Francisco car fanatic and an avid collector of motor vehicles, whom started his career in motorsport journalism and publishing. Mr. Jay Lamm saw a niche in the market for a fun in-expensive way for a bunch of friends to put together and build a racecar with all the elements of professional circuit racing for a fraction of the cost and
There is a limit on what you can spend on the car, laps are deducted for every dollar spent over and above the capped limit, for track infringements we have list of fun penalties which teams need to complete before you can get back to the track. The drivers share their time in the seat over the 24 hours, this could end up being over 2 - 3 days. Created in 2006 with the inaugural event attracting drivers from all over the continent, the race is now in its 8th year and the schedule is 22 meets across the USA over a 12 month period, Jay currently holds the Guinness Book of World Records for the most cars on a circuit for one race event and is the largest car race event/series in

Now in its 10th year, 24 Hours of LeMons holds a Guiness Book of World Records title for most cars on a circuit for one race event and is renown for its lightheartedness, with teams and cars often dressed in outrageous and wacky outfits and given humorous names.
Brought to Australia by Sean Herbert, and Craig Claridge, 24 Hours of LeMons celebrated its first year in Australia in 2015 with a race in Goulburn NSW and with a multi race program in place for 2016 nationally. With strict safety rules and a zero-tolerance policy for hoons, 24 Hours of LeMons is set to be a safe and fun day for all for a good cause, with the event also proudly supporting the Prostate Cancer Foundation of Australia. ound 3 of the Just Car Insurance Australian Drifting Grand Prix blew in to Queensland Raceway in February for the first time since 2011. The local driver’s were favourites but qualifying didn’t go to plan for many. Rob Whyte had car issues and ended up with zero and qualified in last place. At the other end of the spectrum, championship leader Josh Boettcher, qualified in first place with a dominating run that made him look very hard to beat. Beau Yates took second place in the Achilles Radial Toyota 86 while Brendon Greaves continued his form from Jakarta and qualified in third place. Come battle time and Rob Whyte had his work cut out for him. Whyte had to go a re-run against Beau Sinclair before moving onto the Top-16 where he had to battle Nick Coulson. The “Driftkid” had car troubles and Rob Whyte moved through to the Top-8. Beau Yates also had a great

This opened up the championship for Rosenblatt and Gordon but both of them suffered defeat in the Top-16! Rosenblatt had a controversial loss to Joel Dimmack in the Camber Wear S13 and Gordon lost to hard charging local Andrew Worth in the V8 Sprinter after a double rerun! This was now a chance for both Whyte and Yates to move up the order. Rob Whyte had to go a re-run against a hungry Gavin Edwards in the Top-4 and Beau Yates had to take down Brendon Greaves in the WA Performance turbo V8 S15 Silvia. Direzza ZII Star Spec’s high-grip tread compound is moulded into a directional design with a continuous center rib flanked by large shoulders that form a highly rigid tread that delivers high levels of dry grip and handling while promoting uniform tire temperatures and even wear across the tread. Two wide circumferential center grooves channel water through the center of the tread design while angled independent grooves help direct water to the sides of the footprint to enhance wet traction. The Direzza ZII Star Spec features Dunlop’s True Circle Profile that distributes tire deflection forces along the sidewall to provide more control by better communicating tire performance limits to the driver. Its internal structure includes JointLess Band (JLB) Technology that spirally winds polyamide cord over the two wide steel belts to promote strength, uniform ride quality and high-speed capability while 2-ply polyester sidewalls help resist lateral deflection to provide responsive handling and cornering stability.

ROLL CAGE CLARIFCATION IN QUEENSLAND magazine
A QMSC REPORT
R
oll Cages in Queensland There’s some degree of confusion on whether full (six-point) roll cages are legal or not for road-registered vehicles in Queensland. Many say they aren’t, but in fact they are legal in some cases. Authorities are not in support of six-point roll cages in road vehicles for a number of good reasons. The addition of the two bars towards the front increases the risk of a head clash, particularly considering that helmets aren’t worn (unlike in competition). Vision obstruction at the A-pillar is another reason, as well as potential compromise of the vehicles’ crumple zone and airbag deployment interference in newer vehicles. They may also make it difficult for emergency services to remove you or your passengers in a major accident. It’s also important to note that roll-over accidents are not that common, and modern vehicles are much more stable and less likely to roll than older ones. Most injuries sustained by occupants in accidents occur from physical contact with interior structures or fittings. Thus, a roll cage may increase the likelihood and severity of injury - not reduce it.

The requirement for fitting a six-point cage for road use is usually related to the vehicles’ use in competition events. Rally vehicles are a major category, and the fact that they use public roads for competition means this subject is a big issue for them. Cars built or modified primarily for use in Multi-stage Rally Competitions are granted registration under a ‘rally vehicle scheme’, allowing very limited use on roads. See: http://www.tmr.qld.gov.au/~/media/Safety/Vehicle%20standards%20and%20m odifications/Vehicle%20standards/Form34CAMSRallyCarGuidelinev10.pdf There are also a limited number of factory-fitted roll cages available from manufacturers (e.g. in a Porsche GT3). These are acceptable for road-use. But all other vehicles will require a cage to be added - which is a ‘modification’. Following the introduction of the National Code of Practice for Light Vehicle Construction and Modification (VSB 14) in 2012, all states effectively banned the fitting of six-point cages as a certifiable modification. Vehicles certified by State Authorities with a six-point cage prior to VSB 14 would continue to be legal for road use. However, for enthusiasts
wishing to fit a cage to a newer rally vehicle, there didn’t appear to be an option. CAMS commenced negotiations with State Authorities towards an exemption, which has now been achieved. Enthusiast rally vehicles (those equipped with a CAMS logbook and registered to a CAMS license holder) are now allowed to fit a six-point cage and continue to have full road-registration. Vehicles need to comply with the ‘Guidelines for the fitting of safety cages and harness type seatbelts to CAMS club rally vehicles in Queensland’, issued by Transport in April 2015. This type of roll bar can be certified under the LK9 and LK10 modification codes. In the case of drag racing, vehicles quicker than 11 second quarter mile (generally) require a six-point cage. The removable option would be the best in this case.
