QUICKSTRIKE F.C.

INTRODUCTION Welcome to the Quickstrike F.C. Coaching Staff. This coach’s handbook was developed specifically to help guide and assist Quickstrike coaches. We will be assembling one of the top coaching staffs in the Northeast, and bring our overall program to a national level. The growth and development of the program is a direct reflection of our talented and committed coaching staff. While there is no avoiding the fact that coaching personalities and styles vary from coach to coach, it is imperative that Quickstrike F.C. coaches are in tune with the clubs philosophy and style of play. The “Quickstrike F.C. Philosophy & Style of Play” is consistently emphasized, taught and modeled for our players from the time they join the program to the time they graduate, and is a major reason parents and players are attracted to the program. From our clubs player expectations to the flat back four, Quickstrike F.C. is unique in the professional atmosphere it creates from top to bottom, setting us apart from other top club programs. As a coach in the Quickstrike F.C. program you are expected to understand and promote the programs philosophy and style of play within your team. At the same time, you are expected to be the leader and catalyst in bringing out the best in all of your players and team, and to actively participate in the progress and development of the whole program. I honestly believe that the coach is the true catalyst in youth sports when it comes to enjoyment, success and development of a player, a team and a program’s success, but also in the individual player’s lives. Through a competitive soccer environment, our goal as Quickstrike F.C. coaches is to be the difference. “WILLING TO SUCCEED” Jesse Kolmel, Executive Program Director “We educate and inspire through Athletics”

Focus WHAT CAN PLAYERS DO TO HELP? Maximum Mental & Physical effort “ALWAYS” Practice on their own Study the game

(Watching professional games, collegiate games)

THE WORD “FUN” The word fun means different things to different people, in different situations. To players unused to discipline or hard work, fun may involve having loose, unstructured practice in which players are largely free to do as they wish; including not practicing at all unless the mood strikes them. To other players – those who have been properly conditioned psychologically – fun is a sense of enjoyment and personal satisfaction derived from improving skills, indulging in competitive drills and scrimmages, and pursuing team goals. As a Quickstrike coach we will stress this latter kind of thinking among his or her players. Having fun should not be the goal of daily practices. The role (and function) of practice is to prepare players to compete, not to provide players with a pleasant, relaxing way to spend a few hours every afternoon. Preparing for competition is seldom fun for athletes in the conventional sense of the word fun; that is, it normally involves great outlays of physical and mental effort, whether to expand or maintain players’ strength, endurance and/or concentration levels. If (or when) players reach a point where they are no longer willing to accept the rigors of training – if they no longer enjoy practicing or competition- further motivation is virtually impossible to achieve.

QUICKSTRIKE F.C.

PLAYING TIME & SPORTSMANSHIP PLAYING TIME Playing time is not guaranteed. At Quickstrike playing time is earned. There are many factors that are attributed to earning playing time that the coach should address at the beginning of the season. Commitment and performance are some of the key factors in earning playing time. The sole decision maker on playing time is the head coach of the team. All Quickstrike coaches will do their best to be fair with every single player of the team in regard to playing time.

NOTE: If a player is not receiving consistent playing time, it is highly recommended that the coach address the reasons with that player SPORTSMANSHIP Here at Quickstrike we take a lot of pride in emphasizing and teaching Sportsmanship. We want our players and coaches to do their best to be extremely competitive in practices and games while maintaining a high level of sportsmanship in every one of their practices. At games our policy has always been that every one of our players shake hands with all of their teammates, opponents and all three referees regardless of the outcome of the game.
