T
here are moments experienced whilst stalking that encapsulate the heightened sense of awareness and anticipation that only the hunter can feel. Whether it’s the cold dampness of knees and hands on a wet hillside crawl or the brittle crunch of boot on dried autumnal leaf in woodland, these are the moments that the artists try to convey through paintings, engravings and illustrations.
I
n this book, eight leading sporting artists have their own chapter in which they portray the deer in their own unique style. From delicate pencil drawings to vivid watercolours and luxurious oils, they are images to be treasured as they capture the thrill that deer evoke. Brief natural history notes for each species are also included, however this is first and foremost an insight into how each artist approaches their subject.

Getting in TTouch with Your Dog A Gentle Approach to Influencing Behavior, Health, and Performance Linda Tellington-Jones
T
he bestselling book from Linda Tellington-Jones has been completely revised with new photographs and profiles. It offers a positive, no-force approach to training. Using a combination of specific TTouches, exercises and exercises over obstacles, a dog's performance and health is improved, common behaviour issues are solved, and physical problems are positively influenced. When you think of your dog, what is the first characteristic that comes to mind? His gentle companionship, his good-natured bark when he sees a friend? Or, do you think of his “bad habits”—jumping up on people, or the way he pulls when you go for a walk?

FISHING Dynamic Nymphing
The Trout Diaries
‘... The book is a study of nymphing strategies - the material is not designed to be digested in just one reading. It gives a thorough analysis of casting techniques, mending the line and choosing the flies that can best produce results if fished correctly, all presented in a technical manner.’ Irish Angler
‘The book could have got by on anecdote and wry perception alone but it is also a treasury of angling tips, all woven into the story of each month by the water, that extends the 'Diaries' appeal far beyond Kiwi shores...Endlessly thought-provoking, never dull, it has more than lived up to the publisher's advance billing as 'quite a special read'. It is the best flyfishing book I have read this year’ Trout Fisherman

ouldn’t it be wonderful to understand how horses will think and react to certain situations in advance? Now you can. This book delves deeply into the sections of the horse and the human brain to describe core personalities. Understanding these personalities allows the reader to determine what horse will work best for which person. This works for selecting, rehoming, training methods, as well as matching a horse to a particular discipline. Any horse owner (seasoned or new) or trainer (amateur or professional) will gain a more complete understanding of what makes their equine partner tick by reading Know You Know Your Horse. 216 x 178 mm, 272 pages, charts paperback, 978-1-57076-520-9, TS

housands of riders pursue the sport of dressage, and the majority do so on a budget and with the horse they already have – or quite simply, with one they can afford. International dressage judge and riding coach, Janet Foy, has ridden many different horses to the highest levels of dressage competition, and she has compiled her best tips for training and showing in one highly enjoyable book. Her expertise, good stories and good humour are destined to bring out the best in dressage riders and their ʻnot-so-perfect’ horses everywhere.
n this book, the author combines her understanding of horses, her world famous TTouch bodywork, her proven groundwork techniques, and her innovative methods under saddle with exciting ideas specifically for the dressage rider and trainer. To demonstrate how the Tellington Method can be practically applied to the dressage horse, Linda shares more than 20 problem-solving stories, featuring the world-class riders, trainers, and horses with whom she has worked. In addition, she includes techniques to help riders improve their ability to focus, cultivate habits of observation and patience, and practice the arts.

The Balanced Horse The Aids by Feel, Not Force Sylvia Loch with foreword by Carl Hester MBE
T
he Balanced Horse is about developing that ‘perfect understanding’. Whether the rider practices dressage, hacks, events or shows, the improvement of the horse through an understanding of ‘his’ language should allow him greater ability and confidence in working together. The aim of The Balanced Horse is to confirm in people’s minds what they should be doing for each request, and what they must avoid. The author abhors the use of force and gadgetry in the schooling of horses and believes classical riding is the best way forward for all the disciplines. r ein a ids

Bridging the rein is a useful way to establish a quiet hand for both the novice rider and the advanced. For a particularly difficult movement, it helps stabilise the hands and allows both reins to lightly touch and frame the neck – an important aid in itself. It is also useful with a pulling horse, since he will find he is only pulling against himself. If the rider’s back is not erect and supple, the shoulders slump, the chest is restricted and the hands may block. There will be no ‘allowing’ feeling travelling down the rein to the horse’s mouth. Tight hands lead bal ance to tightness elsewhere. The thumb secures the rein, Rounding but unless the horse is actively pulling, the fingers should be loosely bent around it. his new title, Bits and Bitting has been commissioned by The Pony Club to explain the subject in the clearest way possible. With photographs, illustrations and diagrams throughout, this book describes the equipment, how to use it, when to use it, why they should (or should not) use it, and the effects it will have – as well as problem-solving and lots of other useful facts and information. Riding is all about communication with your horse or pony, whether you’re enjoying your first lessons or competing in the Pony Club championships. Choosing the right bit and using it correctly plays a vital part.
his book is a completely new and important guide to correct, safe and practical clothes for people involved with leisure riding, Pony Club activities, handling and grooming horses. Riding clothes, like all other sportswear, are based on practical design with a certain amount of fashion. This book describes the most suitable type of dress for each activity.
