Welcome to the first collection of Cartoons From the Horse’s Mouth.

Spencer Hill is a cartoonist with a national diploma in wielding soft crayons, whilst Vicky Oakey has a masters degree in Equine Science. As they live together, it was only a matter of time before Spencer’s continual search for inspiration met Vicky’s passion and expertise for all things equine. Which is another way of saying that Spencer finds everything funny and Vicky never stops talking about horses! The result is this cartoon book you are holding in your hands. We hope you enjoy the cartoons you are about to read. The idea was to look at the equestrian world from the view point of the horses and ponies. They stand upright and they talk freely whilst their human companions are not about. This is what happens when perfectly good equine science and experience is interpreted by a cartoonist with a warped sense of humour. Any factual errors relating to equipment, practice or breeds can be blamed on the cartoonist! Spencer would like to thank Vicky for putting up with a month of interrogations whilst these cartoons took shape, and David Ashworth for his technical assistance and free psychotherapy. Vicky would like to thank all the horses she has had the privilege of knowing, Spencer for turning her equine jibber jabber into cartoons and her Mum (of course!).
