ylvia Loch fell in love with the discipline of Classical High School riding and the Lusitano Horse in Portugal when she was in her twenties. Sylvia and her late husband, Lord Henry Loch, built the first classical dressage academy in the UK. Sylvia is Founder and Life President of the Lusitano Breed Society of Great Britain. Sylvia founded and still runs the Classical Riding Club (CRC) to promote good, ethical riding practices and to offer support to trainers and students alike. Sylvia Loch and the CRC enjoy an enormous following on social media globally. Sylvia has received an Honorary Instructorship from the Portuguese School of Equestrian Art and she has been honoured with the Portuguese Order of Merit. She has taught, lectured and judged all over the world and her books and DVDs have inspired many to a quieter, more disciplined way of riding. Sylvia still rides, trains, judges and lectures because she enjoys it so much.

The Rider’s Balance This book is designed for all riders from the very novice to the most advanced. Sylvia Loch shows through illustrations and photos how each tiny shift of the rider’s weight will affect the horse’s balance. The weight aids are generally taught only to higher level students, especially those learning the more advanced skills. Yet, by including them from the beginning, novice riders will develop a much greater understanding of their own bodies and abilities and those of the horse from day one. In this book, Sylvia shows through pictures how the giving of the aids can transform the horse in each and every movement so that communication with this wonderful animal takes us to new levels of understanding and empathy.
