EXPERIENCE QUITO, DISCOVER A UNIQUE CITY AT THE CENTER OF THE WORLD! Quito Turismo has created this guide to show visitors and Quiteños alike the diversity of options this city offers in its different touristic zones. In Quito, the first city to be declared a World Heritage Site, visitors can admire an invaluable treasure that includes monasteries and churches that house magnificent paintings, sculptures and woodcarvings from the Quiteño Art School, which originated over five centuries ago. In this Equatorial city, it is possible to enjoy an exquisite culinary offering in several different restaurants that merge traditional and cosmopolitan flavors. Fun and culture come together in several museums that narrate Quito’s Pre-Colombian and Colonial history. Traditional neighborhoods like the Mariscal and La Floresta, offer a fun, cosmopolitan environment. Likewise, only a few minutes from the city, visitors can experience nature and adventure in mountains, lakes, forests and moorlands, all typical of the capital of Ecuador. This guide offers several options to plan and make the most of your visit to the Center of the World... Welcome!

NORTHWESTERN CLOUD FOREST Calacalí, Nanegalito, Nanegal, Nono, Gualea and Pacto are parishes that invite visitors to discover them and their natural and cultural attractions. Their humid, rainy, and at the same time warm climate, provides the ideal environment for the growth of a large variety of orchids. It also has an ample diversity of wildlife including butterflies, birds and the Andean bear as its main attractions. The Sustainable Use and Conservation Areas of Mashpi, Pahijal and Yunguilla, located in this zone, together form a natural paradise, which can be enjoyed by visiting its forests, waterfalls, cultures, traditional art and festivals, with the commitment to taking care of them and protecting them for future generations. In pre-Colombian times, this territory welcomed the Yumbo people, whose paths or “coluncos” (Calacalí) and archaeological remains are still preserved (Tulipe

Museum). Currently, several towns are developing tourism initiatives such as community tourism (Yunguilla), through which visitors can take part in their daily life; plant and wildlife preservation centers, and even adventure sports. Visitors can also find farms where the “Café de Quito” (The Coffee of Quito), winner of several international awards, is grown. The major tourist attractions of this area are listed below so that you may enjoy them next weekend. Activities Camping, trekking, lookout points, panoramic view, restaurants, bird watching, orchid observation, adventure sports, community tourism, waterfall, mountain biking. How to get there? From Quito, take Manuel Córdova Galarza highway, which goes to the Center of the World. At the roundabout, take the road via Calacalí - La Independencia.
