When you want to learn about great places to play, turn to the experts. Preschoolers from centers and home child-care settings across the state illustrated and authored "Places to Play in Rhode Island: A Guide to the State by our Youngest Citizens" in May 2013. Favorite places range from well-known parks and beaches to hidden gems the young children have discovered in their own neighborhoods. The book is the culmination of a professional development initiative created by Ready to Learn Providence and Making Learning Visible, a project out of the Harvard Graduate School of Education. Preschool teachers and providers participating in this course helped children share ideas and expertise with classmates, and use feedback from peers to enhance subsequent drafts of their work. The Places to Play initiative was inspired by early childhood practices developed in the preschools of Reggio Emilia, Italy.
