YOuTH OF THE YEAR

kierra fields is a sophomore at oakhaven high school where she maintains a 4.0 Gpa. since the opening of the oakhaven Boys & Girls Club, kierra has not only been an active in attendance, but participation. she helps with homework during power hour, serves snacks and meals, and cleans and decorates for the Club events. she is an officer in the keystone Club and volunteers at the Memphis Center for independent living. kierra is a member of the rotC program, Color Guard, and serves as an elite member of the honor Guard. her goal is to enlist in the united states Marine Corps in two years.

“Moralcharacteristhepartofyouthatletsyouknowyourwallisbuiltand others cannot break it down.” kennerio roberson is a senior at Booker t. Washington high school. he is the starting center on the football team, captain of the tennis and bowling team, member of the yearbook club and a member of student Government. kennerio is a proud member of the porter Goodwill Boys & Girls Club and has been a Club member for 13 years. he plays on the soccer and flag football team at the Club. he is a member of the keystone Club and the Chef Club. he served as a volunteer of the Boys & Girls Clubs for four years and a Junior staff member for a year as well. kennerio is currently working at the Boys &Girls Clubs technical training Center while actively searching for a job. in his spare time, he cares for his two German shepherds named Buck and feisty.

John Clemons is currently a junior at kingsbury high school where he maintains a 3.0 Gpa. after graduation, he is hopeful in attending austin pea state university. as an active member of the ira samelson Boys & Girls Club, he’s received awards including a Citizenship award and is constantly searching for ways to help at the Club. at school, he is recognized on the honor roll and has received the highest grade on his science end of course exam.

Cory Manning is a senior at Memphis Business academy high school where she maintains a 3.25 Gpa. as an active member for three years at sycamore View Boys & Girls Club, her positive attitude always radiates throughout the club. she is active in alpha & omega, future Business leaders of america, and the technology Club at her school. Cory regularly volunteers at food drives, clean up efforts, and the local Va hospital. she serves as the sycamore View Boys & Girls Clubs keystone president, helps with power hour, participates in the Job seeker program, and mentors younger Club members. after graduation in 2014, she plans on attending rhodes College to major in Computer science.

Chelsea augusta Grandberry is a senior at City university Charter school where she maintains a 3.4 Gpa. in her final year of high school, she is a member of the yearbook committee, member of the art club, and also plays softball for hamilton high school. Chelsea has been a member of the Buckman Boys & Girls Club for seven years and has participated in many club activities such as the keystone Club, the Job ready program at the technical training Center, and often serves meals to Club members in the kids’ Café.

”as a Club member, i have learned many valuable lessons that will help in pursuing my future goals to set a solid foundation in my life.” tavina Malone is a senior at Collierville high school. she is the reigning Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Memphis 2013 youth of the year and has been an active Club member at the Bernal e.smith Boys and Girls Club for eight years. she believes in service above self and has served three years as president of the keystone Club to give back to the community. in her spare time, she tutors/mentors junior members to improve their reading skills, and actually implemented this program in her Club. tavina is also an active participant in the Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Memphis technical training Center’s Job seekers program. in addition to her exceptional school work, active involvemen in the club and her community, she also has a part-time job working at old Navy. she also enjoys reading, writing, listening to music, and playing volleyball. her future plan is to attend college in the fall.
