You Will Land With a Thud by The Tom Fun Orchestra The Tom Fun Orchestra is an eight-piece ensemble of ragtag musicians from Cape Breton Island who have a sound often described as fun and clustered. With such a large cast of instruments it’s no surprise that the album’s sound is often reminiscent of a stomping kitchen party.

Their one and only album, You Will Land With A Thud , was widely appraised by critics for its striking originality, and having had this album for the last three years, I would agree. Not only do The Tom Fun Orchestra have an original sound to begin with, but they’ve also pulled off something incredib ly hard to do within their genre; they have found the perfect balance between nois e and beauty somewhere between grungy, whiskey-dried vocals and nautical strings.

A few of the album’s highlights include ‘Last of the Curious Thieves’ - a song that could very well be Nova Scotia’s personal anthem – ‘Behind The Fence’ a song ripe with dark, southern influence and the unforgettable , nine minute title track ‘You Will Land With a Thud’ which marks the end of the albu m.

ColorFire is a pop-electronica band from Nashville, Tennessee. The band is composed of Landon Austin, Justin Ebach, and Aaron Lagrone. The three met while attending Belmont University in Nashville, TN. Their first EP was released on November 23, 2009 and surpassed 20,000 free downloads within the first month.

They later released a self-titled full length album on March 23, 2010 via iTunes. ColorFire has been promoted by nationally-syndicated radio host Kidd Kraddick through his MakesYouCooler.com segment and on June 16, 2010 ColorFire was selected by Coldplay to be on the front page of their website Coldplay.com where their selfmade music video for "One Way Love" was displayed.

ColorFire has played shows with bands such as Hanson, The Undeserving, Rooney, After Edmund, and Anthem Lights.

Orientation Events Monday September 5th: Residence Moo-ve-in BBQ – 4:45pm in the Dining Room, Murray Hall.

Campus Kick-Off – 6:45 in Brinton Auditorium: Get acquainted with The CSA and with each other! Fun games and prizes for everyone!

Tuesday September 6th: Orientation Day: 9am for First Year Students, 1pm, for Returning Students and Education Students.

Society Orientation Night: 7pm – Wednesday September 7th: Crandall Minute To Win It: 7:30pm Brinton Auditorium. Welcome Team presents the popular game show Minute To Win It. Come out to have a blast with your friends, share some laughs, and win awesome prizes!

Thursday September 8th: Meet in Murray Hall at 7:30pm for our Annual Photo Car Rally! Teams of students, staff, and faculty scour the city of Moncton in search of the photo opportunity that will win the prestigious title of the winning team.

Team drivers will be given a gas card, and the winning team will receive the big prize!

Friday September 9th: Movie Night in the Field: at Dusk come out to the soccer field to watch some favorite films chosen by YOU! Popcorn and snacks will be provided to make your movie experience complete!

Saturday September 10th: Mystery Bus Tour: The Mystery Bus Tour is Crandall’s biggest Welcome Week event. Sign up at the CSA tables during Orientation Day. The cost of the event is $15. Meet in Murray Hall at 8:00am on Saturday, and you will go on an awesome adventure with your soon-to-be greatest friends! Where you go, you’ll never know!!

Colorfire Concert: Doors open at 6:15pm, show starts at 7, with opening act Evan LeBlanc.

Sunday September 11th: TreeGo – Come out and climb some trees with us! TreeGo Moncton is the place to be if you like adventure. For $15, you can join us for team building activities as you zip line and make your way through the obstacles. Sign up on Orientation Day, and meet in front of Colbourne House on Sunday at 1pm.

Blog Highlight: We Are A Traveling Circus

“… but I love cookies.”

Just a quick story to share today.

There is a cute little girl at our billets house, and as I was sitting at the dining room table on my laptop, I heard her grandmother scolding her over something. She stomped around in a bad mood for a few minutes, venting her frustrations. She started naming all the things she hated.

“I hate steps, and I hate the house, and I hate the toys, and I hate these peaches.”

She was passing through the kitchen. I heard the stomping cease and it was quiet for a few moments. The last declaration of hatred towards the peaches made me smile. “… but I LOVE cookies.”
