MT. AIRY FOREST
SITE PLANNING | STUDIO FALL 2015
This studio gave students the ability to demonstrate skills in the analyzation of topography, identifying relationships between site planning and site design, planning with the natural environment in mind, and various software. Students were asked to choose one of three heavily vegetated parks in the greater Cincinnati area to analyze and build a small subdivision upon. Our group chose Mt. Airy Forest, located in the northeastern region of Cincinnati. Working with, not against, the natural environment was the key objective of this studio. The first part of the process involved the use of GIS to analyze the context of the park and its surroundings.

SITE SUITABILITY ANALYSIS After getting a better understanding of the neighborhood located immediately around Mt. Airy Forest, the physical aspects within the park were studied. The information from these maps provides insight on view shed, direction stormwater drainage, the density of vegetation that needs to be avoided, and the feasibility of the soil to be built upon. After thorough consideration, the most feasible site was chosen. Although some vegetation may not be able to be maintained, this site is well connected with already existing streets, it provides a nice view shed, and the soil is most suitable for building.

SITE SELECTION
After the site were chosen, groups began to formulate their designs by creating a street network within the 250 acre site. The topography map aided groups in choosing the most suitable areas to construct roads. After the street network was determined, the groups designed the built environment around the streets. Groups designed a Master Plan of the neighborhood and also used Rhino 3D software to create 3D models of the site.

PRINCIPLES OF PLANNING DESIGN GRAPHIC COMMUNICATIONS | STUDIO FALL 2014
The focus of this studio was on hand drafting landscape graphics and applying various techniques. The studio started with lessons on importance of line weight and softscape and hardscape techniques. As the studio progressed, we applied the techniques we learned to site section elevations, two point perspective renderings, and site plan designs.

ADDITIONAL MAP WORK ARCGIS
The following maps were generated using ArcMap and ArcScene softwares with data from the CAGIS database. Throughout the course of our planning education, the use of Geographic Information Systems has proven to be vital in every analysis we perform. ArcMap and CAGIS data gives planners further insight to the intricacies of land, that the eye would not necessarily be able to see.

GREENSPACE PROPOSAL
The majority of my work for Cuyahoga County entailed assisting with the formulation of long range Master Plans. While most of the time this meant writing executive summaries, analyzing census data, compiling public input, preparing meeting materials, and facilitating a neighborhood survey, I was asked to create design proposals for various projects in Cleveland Heights. Each proposal was created to help bring the public’s ideas to fruition.

Map 2
Along with preparing staff reports bi-weekly for Cincinnati’s Planning Commission, I was asked to assist in other projects the City Planning Department was facilitating. Stakeholders of the historic Mohawk District in northern Over-TheRhine requested the help of the City Planning Department to help them develop a Master Plan for the area. One of the first exercises the City facilitated was a public forum that allowed residents, stakeholders, and business owners from the Mohawk District to highlight areas in which they felt needed the most help (Map 1), areas of opportunity (map 2), areas where they own property, and areas that are assets. I was assigned to compile all of the input gathered from two separate public meetings and create a compilation map (Map 3). The information compiled will serve as a guide of where to prioritize issues and areas within the Mohawk District, the first step of the planning process.

PUBLIC ART
INTRODUCTION TO MAKING PUBLIC ART SUMMER 2016
In the late Spring, Keep Cincinnati Beautiful and Price Hill Will reached out to the University of Cincinnati to see what they would like to see take place in the vacant lot at the corner of Warsaw Avenue and McPherson in East Price Hill. University of Cincinnati students from the Schools of Design, Art. Architecture, and Planning began to develop an innovative and sustainable design project for the vacant lot. The course involved a field trip to Detroit, Michigan to gain inspirations from the various eclectic and innovative public art throughout the city. Students were given a tour through various art projects and sustainable design developments, and then were encouraged to roam the city and experience Detroit's unique culture.
DESIGN AND TAKEAWAYS
As part of the Introduction to Making Public Art in Cincinnati through Time (IMPACT) Course, students from all disciplines of DAAP collaborated to find ways in which public art can be an instrumental addition toward growth and activating a space. The students in this course, including myself, created a temporary public use bench/library made out of recycled milk crates and duct tape. The functioning bench was created for the bus stop on the corner of the intersection. The bench has an eye catching design with bright colors, unique design, and a multi-use. The piece engages residents and users with the space and brings attention to the absence of use.
GREEN ROOF DESIGN
URBAN ROOFS AND FACADES SUMMER 2016
The objective of the Urban Roofs and Facades course was to grasp a greater understanding of the importance of green roof and facade design, the inter workings of green roof and facade design, and to develop a design based on the information gathered from the course. For my design site, I chose Langsam Library, a heavily used facility on campus. SOLAR PATH

SCHEMATIC DESIGN As shown on the previous page, various site and context analyses were taken in the development of this design. Research on solar path, wind direction, extensive green roof construction, and extensive green roof plantings was conducted. After research was completed, I created a radial design for the top roof of the Library that uses a multitude of plant types and ecosystem services such as storm water management, solar panels, and horticulture therapy.
