"Gir lf r iend Killer " pr emier s By Rachel Gal vin

Producer and actress Barbie Castro has done it again. Her 4th movie, "Girlfriend Killer," directed by Alyn Darnay and written by Christine Conradt, was completed and premiered on TV on LMN (Lifetime Movie Network). It will also be shown on the Lifetime Channel on June 18 at 8/ 7 C. The film follows a young woman (played by Castro) who spends her time working with people ready 5 to pop the question. Once the perfect time is set,

she surreptitiously films the happy occasion. But when one relationship gets sour, she gets thrown into a dangerous predicament she could not have predicted and must work with her boyfriend to find the best possible way to deal with the situation while protecting her daughter at the same time. Castro has begun to make a name for herself on Lifetime and LMN and has branded herself by using "Killer" in her titles. Her films include "Assumed Killer," "Patient Killer, "Boyfriend Killer" and now this latest installment. She has already filmed the next film, "Killer Island," so keep an eye out for that one. In the meantime, look for "Girlfriend Killer" to run many times on both LMN and Lifetime in the near future and you may even see some of her previous films there as well. Castro, as well as director Alyn Darnay, have continued to win awards for their work. Special attention should be given also to the amazing cinematography of Jon Schellenger, as well as the cast & crew, many of whom come from right here in South Florida.

Boynt on Beach Short Fil m Fest Held April 20-23, the Boynton Beach Short Film Festival, in its first year, garnered much excitement. This short film festival showed 75 films over three days. Their goal was to serve as a launching pad for emerging Florida filmmakers wishing to showcase their talent on the "big screen." In addition to films, there was also a screenwriting seminar by renowned local screenwriter Michael Chasin. This fest was the brainchild of Jon Palardis, a SouthTech Academy DIGIFILM instructor, and came to life with the help of Larry Richman, the Festival Specialist and Creative Consultant, and Lisa Mileti, the Director of Marketing and Development and others, like Gregory Ratner, who promoted the film fest to all of his friends, as well as Peter Wein of The Wei Network and Audrey Lynn with her SelfieTV and The Chicks Radio Show. At the opening night party, Boynton Beach

Mayor Steven B. Grant and City Commissioner Christina Romelus were among the attendees. The film shown was "Attached at the Soul" by director William Leon. All films were shown at Alco Capital Theaters in Boynton Beach. There was not only a red carpet but also a wonderful after party featuring the vocal talent of local singer Chloe Dolandis at Benvenuto's.

lead down a dangerous path? Being that this film was made by a bunch of artists in their own right, the film definitely has an artistic quality. It also has plenty of funny moments with some memorable characters. The movie was originally created as part of the 48 Day Film Festival (48FP), which the 1310 bandits were eligible to join since they won the 48 Hour Film Project (two years in a row... with multiple awards). But others dropped out leaving them as the champions in more ways than one. Following the Art Serve screening, which offered plenty of food and info. on 48HFP, as well as a "session with Tina," the cast & crew headed to local Mod Lounge for an after party filled with plenty of dancing and enjoying of food and wine. Film Review : ?In Sear ch of Isr aeli Cuisine? By Rachel Gal vin

St. Peter's Fish or Falafel? Hummus or Kugel? Babaganoosh or kebobs? So many choices... The small country of Israel has a plethora or flavors available, each springing from a mixture of cultures, filled with history and tradition. Writer/ Director Roger Sherman brings some of the flavors of Israel onto the screen with his film ?In Search of Israeli Cuisine? with James Beard-winning chef Michael Solomonov unfolding the tale with one Israeli chef at a time. In the process of learning the story of Solomonov himself and a long list of other chefs, the background showcases the people and beautiful landscapes that are the real essence of Eretz Israel. This film is a mouth-watering journey for the foodie and also is food for thought as it showcases the blending of cultures through the years of food influences and asks, ?What is Israeli food?? The film looks back at the past and how the cuisine in the region has changed and what may be its future. The conflict in the region is evident event through the interviews, an ever-present angst that some say make the people live in the moment more vibrantly rather than face an uncertain tomorrow. Others feel that perhaps food is the great mediator and can bring peoples together and finally usher in the ever-escaping peace. Chef and author Solomonov has featured his own culinary prowess in various locales and now has partnered up with

Steve Cook to open Dizengoff in Wynwood, at 250 NW 24th St., Miami, which will be opening soon. Dizengoff is named after a street in Tel Aviv and is inspired by Israel's beloved "hummusiyas," which offer a menu of hummus served with different daily toppings. He also is opening Federal Donut right there. He already is the owner of Zahav and several other restaurants in Philadelphia. His book "Zahav: A World of Israeli Cuisine" is on the NY Times Best-Seller's list. He was born in Israel and grew up in the states. When his brother, who was in the Israeli army, was killed, he found that cooking and connecting back to his culture helped him through it. After 30 episodes, you would think you would be seeing the same thing over and over, but, already this morning, I have seen a rabbit, lemur, another rabbit, a prairie dog, another prairie dog, a rat, and an eclectus. This afternoon, I am spaying a pig. There is never a dull day,? said Dr. K. The most unusual thing her staff has seen was probably an anteater. They have found that the owners of the fish and frogs are the most grateful. Yes, that?s right ? they have people bring their fish and frogs in too. They have even worked with insects and coral. Lately, they have been seeing more goats. People come from all over, as far as Ft. Meyers or Ft. Pierce in Florida; some come from as far as Georgia.

When asked if the cameras become distracting during filming, she said, ?There are Go Pros all over the building, [plus a couple guys with cameras]. After awhile, you are so focused on the job you get used to it. The cameramen are very sensitive to me. If I don't answer a question when they ask, they know to give me space. [The staff has] learned how to be as efficient as possible, and we cannot be spontaneous twice. They either get it or they don't.? She added, ?It is very much reality. Nothing is pre-planned. As they are putting it together, they come back and do half hour to hour interviews; we fill in with voiceovers to

explain how something was done. I have a crazy, photographic memory. I remember everything.? Sometimes, the editor will put segments from different days together in one episode, which means that Dr. K and her staff have to make sure to wear the same outfits and makeup, etc., every day, which she doesn?t mind. ?Everyone has four or five of the same shirts,? she said, laughing that is makes it easier not having to worry about what to wear. Dr. K has been caring for some of her patients for decades. She has been out of school now for 22 years and has treated some of her patients since they were young, including a box turtle who is 15, people with koi that are 20 years old. She has people with birds as old as 64. Dr. K has seen the attachment that people have to their pets; they are part of the family. She has a special room for those visiting a sick pet or for those who have lost a pet. ?I really love my clients,? said Dr. K, who enjoys spending time getting to know them and their pets. Dr. K?s office is full service. They do a lot of surgeries, laser therapy, ultrasounds, state-of-the-art X-rays, true digital radiography, endoscopy and more. They offer boarding as well. ?If I could just do wellness education, I would just do that,? she said, adding that people need to educate themselves on their pet, as each animal has its own unique needs as far as the right diet, husbandry, etc. Some animals, she said, are prey so they don?t show their illness. A rabbit, for example, will not present symptoms until they are very sick. Dr. K's has a ?Top 5? of things you should do to keep your pet happy and healthy. They include sunshine, fresh air, good food, fun and friends. She works with Dr. Lauren Thielen D.V.M. and Matt

Grootenboer D.V.M., and has 13 employees total. She loves raving about her staff, saying that many of her technicians have been with her for 10 to 11 years and can do things that vets don?t even know how to do. Dr. K. is not in the office every day, but works remotely sometimes. She drives in from Loxahatchee, where she lives with her husband and three kids, age 7, 9 and 13. She has several pets of her own: a cat, 2 box turtles, three dogs and a Macaw. Her son has a two-year-old Caique. "Coupons & Dreams" seeks donat ions Director Talina Adamo, of Lake Worth, FL, is planning to shoot her next production at the local G-Star School of the Arts. It is entitled ?Coupons & Dreams" and is a feature film. The story came from a dream that producer/ actor Kevin Humes had. Soon, Adamo and John Hamblin, her Assistant Director, worked on a script and began casting South Florida locals. The story follows the life of a young boy whose parents are killed in a tragic incident leaving him and his older siblings seeking a new home. In the meantime, he finds solace with his imagination and a homeless man who shares his passion for storytelling. Next, they decided to create a teaser to help with fundraising. It was shot on March 27, at both G-Star and local restaurant, Howley's. Actors involved in the teaser were Tommy Pozo, Kevin Humes, Mireya Kilmon, Karen Chimato and Rachel Galvin. Jon Schellenger, known for such films as ?Boyfriend Killer,? ?Hollow Creek,? ?Shadow Fighter,? and many others, came on board to be the Director of Photography. Unlike at Howley's, where the restaurant was used basically as-is, at G-Star, a set had to be built, painted, dressed and filled with props. It was created with the vision of set designer James Hook and the help of G-Star students Christian Philips, Haiden Hill, Garrett Canipe, Robert Fiore and Vincent Bonasara, who also helped with other tasks in pre-production. Jerry Nuckles helped with production as well. 15 The goal was to put the teaser out on social media

and show it to potential investors to raise more funds for the feature film. They are currently seeking funds and are planning a fundraiser soon. The team behind ?Coupons & Dreams? is currently working on a new website for the project. www.CouponsAndDreamsMovie.com In the meantime, check out the project on their Facebook page and Like it. www.facebook.com/couponsanddreams/ Interested in being a part of the project by donating? Eve Gr ey Pr oduct ions announces pr oduct ion of "Women Dat ing Over 50 " Eve Grey Productions is proud to announce the production of "Women Dating Over 50," a comedy series starring Richard Sosa, and directed by Eve Grey. "Women Dating Over 50" is the story of a group of individuals that have recently come out of 20 to 30 year relationships and are looking for love once again. To their dismay, they find that social media has drastically

changed the rules for dating. Finding a partner, whether it?s for a night or a lifetime, is not what it used to be. In their quest for love, they seek the help of dating expert Dr. Jack. But is he really the right person for the job? What kind of advice does he have for the hapless men and women that seek him out? Richard Sosa, who plays Dr. Jack in this series, is supported by a seasoned Florida cast and crew. If you asked Eve Grey why she initiated this project, she will tell you that her goal is "? to bring more projects to Florida despite the fact that we no longer have a film incentive program. I?m tired of seeing people move out of Florida in order to find work in this industry.? Richard stated, ?The story is very relevant, and we couldn?t have asked for a better cast and crew to tell it.? Also involved with the project are Daniel Deien, an award-winning Director of Photography, and Neil Berliner, who has written for Comedy Central, The Tonight Show, and The John Kerwin Show, to name a few. Eve Grey Productions has already garnered interest for distribution and will elaborate more when they are able.
