On Jan. 20, Savor Cinema in Ft. Lauderdale was the place to be as "Blonde Hair Murders" was screened. The film, directed by Jerome Anthony Larkin, starred many local actors, many of whom were in attendance. It was quite the evening. Eric Diaz also performed before the screening ever began. Fil m Carpet XIV Awards Maybe you have heard about Film Carpet. If not, you should have. This quarterly event continues to bring in large groups of film industry professionals to network, have their project screened or support others. The latest event, held on Jan. 31, at Savor Cinema in Ft. Lauderdale, was also an awards event with a special performance by Jessi Campos. Of course, there were plenty of excellent raffle prizes given out as well. The film projects included the following films: Gym Shorts, Aurea, In the Arms of Madness, Brass Knuckles and No Mas , among others. Here are a few snaps from the event.

New Year 's Film Fest ival & Ar t Expo J. Edward Betancourt decided to create his own festival and on Jan. 5, it came to fruition. Held at the Broward County Library in Ft. Lauderdale, the event, attended by a small crowd of film professionals primarily, included screenings of films, music videos and trailers, but also had space for authors and artists to present their works. Rachel Ubeda sang and opening and ending song. Filmmakers slated to feature their projects included Brytt by Confetti, The Blonde Hair Murders by Jerome A. Larkins, At Bay by Elizabeth Splendor, Breakdown by Ben Clerveaux, For the Sake of the World by Damien G. Tullier, Cowboys and Mattresses by Audrey Lynn, MedMan by J. Edward Betancourt, Heroes of 6th Street by Actor's Cultural Theater, Hell Week - DAMAGED by J. Edward Betancourt, Hellcoming by J. Edward Betancourt and Atom Steam by Actor's Cultural Theater. (Info. provided from Facebook). Authors Alyn Darnay, M.E. DePalma and Rachel Galvin had their books for sale. Also slated to attend was Luis F. Dulanto (Writer, Illustrator), Sal Sidner (Fine Artist), Helio Salcedo (Fine Artist), Rafael Montilla (Fine Artist), Henri Matisse (Illustrator), Consuelo Gonzalez (Fine Artist), Jeremy Yoder (Illustrator/ animator), along with J. Edward Betancourt (Illustrator/Designer).

Boynton Beach Short Film Festival The Boynton Beach Short Film Festival is coming. Founded in 2016 by Jon Palardis, DIGIFILM instructor at South Tech Schools in Boynton Beach, the film festival's focus is on students from middle school to college. Students not only are able to submit films and be eligible for awards along with the professionals, but they are also responsible for everything from marketing and ticket sales to graphics and judging the films. The festival includes in competition and out of competition selections. This year's festival will be held April 30 through May 5 headquartered at Alco's Boynton Cinemas. Int er nat ional Mini Movie & Film Fest ivals A group of film industry professionals have decided to create some new film festivals. The first one is The Brentwood & Pacific Palisades International Film Festival, which debuts on June 9-10, "minutes from the heart of Hollywood between Santa Monica and Beverly Hills." But they are also planning a film festival in South Florida. It will be called the Palm Beach International Mini Movie & Film Festival and will be held Nov. 10 & 11. They plan for it to be a place to not only showcase films but rub elbows with other filmmakers, producers and international celebrities. Founded by filmmaker Bryan Thompson, the Miami Web Fest will be held May 2-5. Not only is it a film festival but it also attracts artistic folks who want a glimpse at what is happening in the future creatively. There are usually workshops that are informative and attendees often can see independently produced shows before they get discovered and head for the big time.
