PROJECT OVERVIEW The Petersfield Primary & Infant School Playground Build will include the installation of a new playground structure, chess/checkers game tables, benches, and revitalizing the current Peace Garden into a Learning Garden.

The Learning Garden will provide an opportunity for students to learn agriculture, practice mindfulness & yoga, and grow food that can be distributed to the Petersfield Primary & Infant School families.

The goals of this project are to:

Primary & Infant School;

THE WHY "PLAY IS OUR BRAIN'S FAVORITE PART OF LEARNING." (D. ACKERMAN) Petersfield Primary & Infant School was built in the 19th century by the Anglican Church. It was revamped

in

1965

to

update

the

school's

structure. Unfortunately, the school could not afford to add a playground at any point during its long history. This will be the school's first playground!

We believe that every child deserves a safe & engaging

place

to

play.

According

to

the

American Academy of Pediatrics, "Play allows children to use their creativity while developing their

imagination,

cognitive,

and

dexterity,

emotional

and

strength.

physical, Play

is

important to healthy brain development. It is through play that children at a very early age engage

and

interact

in

the

world

around

them."

In providing a space to play with a learning garden, our goal is to assist PPIS educators with

working

with

students

&

families

to

cultivate an appreciation for the environment and

lifelong

skills

for

students.

Students

will

have access to hands-on experiences that will connect

Agriculture

to

food

stability

and

environmental wellness.
