2013 Queensland Winter Trotting Carnival

The cool and clear evenings associated with a Queensland winter provide a great backdrop for our premier racing period. Winter 2013, will again be an exciting time for our fans, the people who work in our industry and our punters, who get to enjoy the best of the best coming to compete in their own backyard. It will be another superb Queensland racing carnival I am sure. You will now doubt notice the change to the name of this year’s carnival. In 2013 we return with the use of the sports traditional name ‘Trotting’. At a recent executive meeting of Harness Racing Australia it was agreed to reintroduce the term that for many decades defined our great sport. You may have seen other states already return to the use of the term trotting. I trust you re-embrace this name and its positive association with our sport. In 2013 we will take a fresh, new approach to communicating the Queensland Winter Trotting Carnival to the industry. The introduction of this publication is the first in a line of planned changes.
We have listened to your feedback and developed the information you need to maximise your participation in, and enjoyment of the Queensland Winter Trotting Carnival. The racing industry has come together to help provide information that is needed by Queenslanders or visitors to Queensland. Whether it is information on race programming, venue offerings or just planning a casual visit to be part of the excitement. I hope the information in this booklet will be useful, however if you need further information, I encourage you to make contact with the Racing Queensland harness racing team. I look forward to seeing many of you at the ‘trots’ throughout winter. Our clubs are waiting to show you what a great time can be delivered during the Queensland Winter Trotting Carnival. It’s a wonderful period of racing that will again excel under the bright lights of our winter nights.

The Gold Coast Harness Racing Club (GCHRC) is referred to as an innovator in Harness Racing as it was the first club in Australia to permanently install a sprint lane. The sprint lane was a great step forward, giving more horses a chance to win or at least fill a minor placing.
