OFFSITE ROUNDTABLES

17.09.2024

in collaboration with

10.00-11.15 - Accelerating Capacity:

The government has made some ambitious statements about delivering housing. The offsite sector certainly has capacity, and business models aligned with fast delivery of homes but what strategies and support need to be put in place to accelerate delivery.

11.30-12.45

Building on Success:

The construction playbook has resonated across government frameworks, favouring MMC delivery as a preferred approach. While there is still a long way to go, many successful programs have already demonstrated significant results.

13.00-14.15

Nepotism to Meritocracy

The construction sector has a notoriously bad reputation. It's known for its blame culture, dirty work, and being a man's job. But it's about time that changed. To truly revolutionise the sector, we can't continue doing the same things we've always done.

14.30-15.45

Collaborative Culture

Collaboration is crucial in delivering a more sustainable, resilient, and productive future for the construction industry. Effective collaboration, facilitated by early conversations and coordinated efforts, informs better procurement practices and enables early supply chain involvement, ensuring key decisions align with valuedriven outcomes.

16.00-17.15:

Building Futures

The workforce problem is not going away; it's only predicted to deepen. There is a disconnect between an ever-changing industry and the way we train our workforce. Do we know what our workforce will look like in a few years?

18.09.2024

in collaboration with

12.45-13.45

Student Accommodation & Schools

This roundtable will showcase good practice in applying MMC to schools and Purpose Built Student Accommodation. Chaired by Dirk Vennix, BUILDOFFSITE Executive Director and CIRIA CEO, Sheppard Robson will provide short introduction from a designer’s perspective (including case studies). Other invitees include Department for Education, Bowmer + Kirkland, Hadley Group, IPA, other government departments and arms length bodies.

14.15-15.15

Social Infrastructure – Focus on the Prisons Project

This roundtable will showcase good practice in social infrastructure delivery through the MoJ’s new prisons programme. Chaired by Dirk Vennix, BUILDOFFSITE Executive Director and CIRIA CEO, MoJ will provide a short introduction from a client’s perspective with context setting of the 'blueprint' and how MoJ got to HMP Millsike (UK’s first all-electric ‘green’ prison). BUILDOFFSITE member Kier will also introduce the contractor perspective. Other participants include IPA, Mace, Lendlease and Bryden Wood.

OFFSITE CONSTRUCTION AWARDS 10 Year Anniversary

BRITISH OFFSITE

British Offsite is the creator of unihouse, an open panel, light gauge steel framing system that’s bringing speed, flexibility, reliability and cost-competitiveness to the house building market, through the pre-manufacture of panels at our advanced production facility, launching at offsite expo 2024.

Adaptable to nearly any design vision, UNihouse has been developed specifically for rapid deployment in the low-rise housebuilding market. It utilises standard building materials to create a solution that has all the benefits of steel frame construction with none of the issues of timber frame or traditional brick/block building.

UNihouse is manufactured at our Horizon factory in the heart of Essex, founded with investment from the Weston Group PLC. Using Randek’s state-of-the-art Kuka robots we have substantially increased our production capacity from 700 homes to 4,000 homes per year. At 80% capacity that’s equal to 110000Lm of UNihouse/ UNisystem coming off our line each year.

Which is the equivalent of one complete panel coming off our finishing line, on average, every 15 minutes.

Unihouse is a cost-effective, 2d panelised system that supports the delivery of functioning and occupiable spaces faster. Technically advanced and meeting all necessary building standards and regulations, it is manufactured with exacting precision to fully align with your design specifications.

With light gauge steel at its core, UNihouse delivers strength and durability without any of the technical drawbacks of timber frame and the environmental impact of traditional brick/block construction.

At the same time it delivers major cost efficiencies, generated by our streamlined and semi-automated manufacturing processes.

Quality checked at each stage, UNihouse is manufactured to exacting standards subsuming the work of up to five trades into one panel. With multiple processes completed offsite, risks and delays typical of today’s construction projects are minimised.

UNihouse adds value to every project.

Would you like a fast, flexible, reliable andcost-competitive solution without the issues of timber frame?

British Offsite is the creator of UNihouse, an open panel, light gauge steel framing system adaptable to your requirements. UNihouse has been developed specifically for the low-rise housebuilding market for rapid deployment, utilising standard building materials to create a solution that has all the benefits of steel frame construction, overcoming the most common issues of timber frame.

Founded with investment from the Weston Group PLC, UNihouse is manufactured at our factory in the heart of Essex. Using Randek’s state-of-the-art Kuka robots we have massively increased our production capacity to 6,000 homes per year.

Speed up your new homes delivery with UNihouse.

VOESTALPINE METSEC

Enhanced presence for voestalpine Metsec at Offsite Expo 2024

Underlining its position as the foremost company in offsite construction solutions, voestalpine Metsec attends Offsite Expo 2024 with a larger, more impressive stand than the last exhibition in 2023.

Occupying stand C1, a prime space directly in front of one of the show’s main entrances, the 12m x 6m two-storey stand will dominate the visitors’ view as they enter the event and will be hard to miss, not only due to its presence but also the content of its presentations, which will make it a must-visit destination for all those attending the show.

voestalpine Metsec promise to provide visitors with an immersive experience of the company’s pre-panelised framing solution, Metframe, together with its market-leading Dry Lining and Cable Management Systems. Presentations will include information on the company’s latest innovations, including Metsec Decarb, a reduced carbon steel solution to reducing the carbon footprint of buildings. The stand will be organised into distinct areas for visitor reception and consultation, with interactive video presentations, as well as dedicated product areas for Metframe, Dry Lining and Cable Management Systems. Each product area will be staffed by expert personnel from each division and will feature comprehensive product displays, which will include full-sized Metframe panels in typical wall build-ups with proprietary insulation and board materials.

voestalpine Metsec’s Sales Director for the Framing Division, Chris Holleron comments, “voestalpine Metsec is the UK’s largest specialist roll forming company. We are recognised as the leading designer and manufacturer of construction solutions in virtually every market in which we operate, and we want our presence at Offsite Expo 2024 to reflect this.

“We have created a totally new stand, extending to two storeys to accommodate presentations from three of our operating divisions; where we have previously concentrated on Metframe, we have now added Dry Lining and Cable Management Systems.

“Most architects, contractors and engineers will be familiar with the weight, price and programme benefits that Metframe delivers through its light weight, economy and efficiency. Our objective for Offsite Expo 2024 is to build on this reputation by introducing our other construction solutions, which building professionals may not be so familiar with, but which hold to the same principles of value engineering and contributing towards a more as costand time-efficient construction process.

“Our commitment to making the entire design, specification and installation process as easy and risk-free as possible has never been greater than it is today, clearly demonstrated through our comprehensive independent performance testing, solution design and approved installation.

MODULAR AND PORTABLE BUILDING ASSOCIATION (MPBA)

For more than 80 years the Modular and Portable Building Association (MPBA) has spearheaded the growth of the sector. A quiet trailblazer, advanced thinking means the MPBA, and its members remain ahead of the construction curve.

Transformative Technology

Providing a predictable pathway, the benefits of manufactured buildings begin in the factory, continue on to the construction site and last through the lifetime of the building. From digitally designed and rigorously tested single storey prefabricated schemes to vast complex manufactured school and hospital developments, volumetric construction helps ensure client satisfaction and offers product assurances through the certainty and quality embedded into the manufacturing process.

Evidencing Value

Pre-Manufactured Value (PMV) is another driving force in the specification of volumetric technology in the public sector. PMV is a core metric for measuring the level of MMC in a project and is central to procurement programmes. To secure a contract, suppliers are required to show that pre-manufacturing will account for at

least 70% of their construction costs, which plays to the strengths of a volumetric modular approach.

Operating at Pace

Increasing productivity is crucial to success. Using cutting-edge digital design and manufacturing technology combined with the ability to carry out onsite groundworks at the same time as manufacturing modules, the efficiency benefits of this most advanced of offsite construction methods – delivers not only productivity gains but enhances the quality of the final output. According to data from RICS members – modular projects are completed 50% faster than traditional onsite methods.

To find out how volumetric modular technology can enhance quality, cost and programme certainty, head over to STAND B01 where experts will be on hand to offer advice and support.

LIGHT STEEL FRAME ASSOCIATION (LSFA)

Through strength in numbers and the power of a united voice, the LSFA drives positive influence and engagement to increase market share for the light steel sector. Championing change, the LSFA spreads the word about the cost, productivity, performance and sustainability benefits of contemporary light steel systems.

Trusted and specified by the UK construction industry – light steel frame is the most technically advanced material in the offsite technology portfolio. Highly innovative and digitally savvy, the light steel sector has developed panelised and modular solutions that deliver high quality buildings on fast-track construction programmes.

Building Safety

A key advantage of light steel frame is fire performance. The amount of combustible material in a light steel framed building is much lower, therefore the risk of fire during construction and when occupied is vastly reduced. Steel is non-combustible and does not add to the fire load of a building and therefore can be used in external walls over 18 metres.

Circular By Design

Steel has a unique characteristic as it can be reused and recycled repeatedly without losing its qualities as a building material. Steel has excellent circular construction credentials, as a material it is strong and durable, as a structural framing system it is lightweight and cost efficient. Steel's material properties make it the ultimate sustainable construction solution - enhancing both the safety and sustainability credentials of light steel buildings.

Benefits of Membership

Bringing together a wealth of experience and technical know-how, the LSFA represents manufacturers, installers, industry supply chains, architects, engineers, consultants and clients operating in the light steel sector.

To find out more about the benefits light steel frame can bring to your project or how membership can offer access to numerous high-value opportunities, head over to STAND E09 or visit:

www.lsf-association.co.uk

LIGHT STEEL FRAME

With excellent circular construction credentials, light steel is strong and durable, lightweight, safe, adaptable, cost efficient and reusable.

LONG LASTING ASSET

99% of structural steelwork is reused or recycled

Steel can be recycled or reused endlessly without detriment to its properties

Steel components can be reused with very little or no reprocessing

Reuse offers even greater environmental advantages than recycling

STRUCTURAL TIMBER ASSOCIATION (STA)

The STA represents competent suppliers of quality timber systems. The importance of complete structural timber systems and hybrid solutions in the delivery of offsite construction cannot be underestimated, and what better way is there to get design and specification right than to choose an STA member?

As the largest UK trade association within the structural timber sector, there are a host of reasons why construction professionals should choose one of our members. The STA's mission is to support and facilitate the UK construction industry to increase the use of structural timber, thereby bringing further success to all stakeholders across the entire supply chain. This is underpinned by our members' Quality Assurance Scheme – STA Assure.

Our STA Assure scheme provides solid reassurances to the construction community that our members meet or exceed current legislation and regulatory requirements. Recognised by warranty providers, as well as other key stakeholders including insurers, STA Assure ensures that we remain on top of the constantly evolving changes to quality and standards.

You can find out more about this widelyrecognised scheme by visiting the STA stand.

Additionally, the association will be explaining how it supports members and the wider construction industry to encourage the increased use of structural timber across the industry. The team will also be there to discuss how structural timber systems and offsite construction can be implemented combined can support to reach carbon neutral goals.

Our experienced team will be on hand to guide you through what makes STA members ideal supply chain partners and will be able to assist you with more challenging detailing in designing offsite systems.

CHARITY COLLECTION

Making A Difference

to People Impacted by Cancer

This year we are collecting money for Lingen Davies - a Cancer Charity local to the Offsite Expo & Offsite Awards team – Lingen Davies strive to make a positive difference to lives affected by cancer in our region and ensure the best possible care is available close to home, as well as raising lifesaving cancer awareness in the wider community.

Since 1979, Lingen Davies have been dedicated to improving cancer services in our community, ensuring the people of Shropshire, Telford & Wrekin, and Mid Wales can access excellent cancer treatment locally. Since then, they estimate that more than 100,000 people have had their cancer treatment and care improved as a direct result of Lingen Davies’ work and cancer appeals.

Lingen Davies have funded the very latest technology and equipment for hospitals in Shropshire, in particular enhancing the experience and care of those who go through their treatment at the Lingen Davies Cancer Centre at the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital. The equipment and technology they have funded improves waiting times, accuracy of treatment, the patient experience, and reduces travel time, damage to healthy cells and side effects.

Lingen Davies want to ensure that local patients are well supported during their treatment and recovery as they adjust to living life beyond cancer. They fund the I Can Cancer Rehabilitation programme which is delivered by a dedicated team of health professionals and incorporates physical fitness, mental health and wellbeing, nutrition, and fatigue management. The free to access support is available online and in person at locations throughout our region.

YOUR LAUNCH PAD TO SUCCESS

If you are experiencing OFFSITE EXPO 2024 for the first time and feel you have missed out on a major business development opportunity, then now is the time to make a move to secure the prime exhibition spots, product launch pads, marketing and sponsorship enhancement packages for next year.

Returning to the Coventry Building Society Arena on 16-17 September, the Advisory Group and organisers behind OFFSITE EXPO are ahead of the curve, with lots of new ideas and plans in place for 2025.

As a sell-out event, these opportunities are quickly snapped up, so if you are at the show and want to align your products and services with the lucrative and forward thinking offsite sector, then head along to the Help Desk on E01 and speak to a member of the OFFSITE EXPO team.

TAKING IT TO ANOTHER LEVEL

Product Launch Pads

OFFSITE EXPO is all about innovation – unearthing those ground-breaking new construction technologies that could have major financial, performance, safety, speed or quality improvement implications. It is particularly challenging bringing a new product to market for start-ups and SME enterprises, but OFFSITE EXPO 2025 will provide the perfect platform. The new Product Launch Pads are available at discounted introductory rates for first-time exhibitors. The designated ‘launch’ area will be a major point of interest, so size does not matter. All stands are therefore 4sqm, so are easy to fit-out and manage.

Enhanced Marketing Packages

The new 2025 marketing enhancement add-ons, exhibition and sponsorship packages will be tailored to meet individual budget requirements and promotional needs. With 70% of exhibitors rebooking at OFFSITE EXPO year on year – now is the time to make a decision that can transform your business by maximising the marketing opportunity of the year.

Put on a Show at Offsite Expo

Creating stand-out makes sense. You want to attract footfall to your stand but also position your company as one that cares, has great attention to detail and always makes the effort. In 2025 we want to reward exhibitors that go that extra proverbial mile, so we have trophies for the best in class stands. In line with the event ethos, small and innovative can equally compete with the big and the bold.

Looking to promote your offsite products and services to a highly targeted and engaged audience? Then get in contact with julie.williams@radar-communications.co.uk to find out how you can get involved in the specialist exhibition.

THE GLOBAL EPICENTRE OF OFFSITE ENGAGEMENT

UK Government Hub

With Westminster mandating 70% PMV (pre-manufactured value) offsite technology is now central to all public construction projects. New for 2025, the Government Hub will feature leading agencies such as the Department of Education, Ministry of Defence, National Health Service, Ministry of Justice and Homes England. Over the next decade the public sector construction pipeline represents more than £600 billion of spend. Meeting suppliers is time consuming and not sustainable. OFFSITE EXPO presents a solution. Open to exhibitors only, OFFSITE CONNECT offers an effective way for public officials to drive value-led procurement decisions. Improving supply chain networks by facilitating numerous business meetings in the forum lounge, OFFSITE CONNECT is a structured way to match buyers needs with innovative suppliers.

International Pavilions

This year’s event has an international focus with the Offsite Summit. In 2025 the organisers want to take this one step further with the launch of the International Pavilions. So if you have travelled from overseas, then this may be of interest. The International Pavilions provide trade associations with an opportunity to promote their member’s products and services to an engaged audience at a highly targeted event.

Digital Demos

New for 2025, the Digital Demos will feature the smart technologies that are changing the face of construction. From immersive reality to digital software, now that artificial intelligence (AI) has entered the construction arena, the rate of advancement is accelerating at pace. If you have a digital innovation that will be ‘demo ready’ by September 2025, then get in touch.

Interested and want to find out more?

Then get in contact with rhian.morris@radar-communications.co.uk to find out how you can get involved in the Government Hub, International Pavilions or Digital Demos.
