“Double house” 3rd Semester, Brno University of Technology Tutor: Ing. Arch. Luboš Františák, PhD.

Assignment was to design double house for two described families on given plots in Brno - Jundrov. Plots are currently used as a small private gardens and according to city zoning plan there should be new residential development. Main material is thermal insulating Liaporbeton in combination with corten. Houses are divided horizontaly into two different zones where the ground floor is used as a social part and the first floor is used as a private calm part of the house.

“Conversion” 4th Semester, Brno University of Technology Tutor: Prof. Ing. Arch. Helena Zemánková, CSc.

Textile factory in Brno-Obrany was founded in 1894 and was part of the famous textile era in Brno during which the city was called Moravian Manchester. Main spinnig building is considered as a valuable industrial architecture but it is breaking up these days. Assignment anticipated future total reconstruction of complex where is also unique water turbine which used to supply the whole area with energy. Factory is situated on an island which gives the place new potential. Idea was to open the island to inhabitants of Obrany and create new centre of this city borough. Project includes not just residential programme but also shops, offices and new kindergarten because all of these functions are lacking in this part of the city. New access to the island is allowed directly from the bridge through shopping gallery placed in spinning factory. Also new water front is created. Both of these intend to revive complex which is mostly unused nowadays.

“Under the water” 6th Semester, Brno University of Technology Tutor: Doc. Ing. Arch. Gabriel Kopáčik, Dr.

Right under the “Petrov” cathedral in Brno in the historical city centre there are two strings bubbling underground which are flooding historical cellars which are situated on the site. Main idea is to make building nearly invisible to not block the view to the cathedral and also to point out the fact of the two strings. Design is using the slope of the plot and offers different impressions from each side. From the city centre it just look like blind brick wall. This should evoke fortress which is protecting the cellars and visually it creates pedestal for the cathedral. At the north-west side is sandstone wall. Single monument which is closing the courtyard and indicates something unique. Flat roof of the building is at the same level as the surroundings of Petrov. Water from the cellars is pumped up to the roof so when you are standing next to the cathedral it looks just like extension of the public space, interesting water surface.

“120 Hours Geiranger docks” Competition 2013 Co-autors: Štěpán Vašut

We tried to protect Geiranger nature and atmosphere in this project, thats why there is no hyperdock in this design. Large cruise ships which are anchored here are a major contrast to local architecture but also they’re part of this place. Design takes tradicional norwegian houses and materials and connects not eco-friendly ships with ecological buildings on the shore. In fact we designed new village on water which is used by both, tourists and inhabitants of Geiranger. There are planted trees all over the village as a reminder that nature is number one in Norway. At the end of each pier theres the observation deck which is oriented to Geiranger. These decks are designed for tourists waiting for their ship to have a rest and enjoy the beauty around. All houses have solar panels on roofs. Energy gained from this source is used to normal operation of village.

“New settlement Makovice” 7th Semester, Brno University of Technology Co-autor: Martin Kůs Tutor: Ing. Arch. Jan Mléčka AWARDED: Cena Bohuslava Fuchse - Best semestral project at Faculty of Architecture BUT

Assignment was to create new settlement which will be partly selfsufficient and will be able to survive next 700 years. Project consists of three parts – cognitive part, analytical part and the proposal part. Cognitive part was focused on existing village Vcelakov. Through understanding of the processes in typical settlement we tried to figure out essential parts which creates pleasant and operational community. Analysis was mainly about evolution of humanity, relation between individuals, contrasts between the inside and outside, importance of land and property and last part was focusing on enormous traffic which is necessary to keep society going. Proposal shows our idea of creating new settlement where we find the “guru” approach as the most efficient one. We think that everything can start with one person with bright vision. In next steps we counted with growth of the village and we created the whole story of the place with open ending.

Evolution of society, possible insight to the future and our vision of returning back to traditional family which is partly self-sufficient.

“New at Old” 8th semester, Brno University of Technology Tutor: Ing. Arch. Jan Mléčka Project is located close to the historical city centre of Brno, Zábrdovice, more specifically in the ‘Bronx’ area of Brno. This area has its own specific character, differing from the rest of the city. During the successive historical development the area has acquired a specific nature without typical city blocks. It is concentrated towards the inner courtyards, where various still functional services are located. The new volume of the new urban development follows the current unique structure. Intention was to create a small ‘town’ within the city. A set of structures predominantly with residential function is included here. As a growing interest in living in this area is expected in the future, my effort was to design a great variety of housing that would be able to meet the demands of wide range of people. This diversity also complies with the requirements of anticipated future residents from different social or age groups. The whole concept is based on linking the buildings to their interior courtyards, which has been intended to become the heart of the project. The flats are mostly entered from the outside, from the open passages to the courtyards, or from the upper floor terraces. This way the anonymity of the local residents is reduced, while their safety and quality of community life increases.

“Square in Ceska Trebova” Competition 2014 Co-autors: Štěpán Vašut, Tomáš Maťaťa

A town square is an open public place bounded by adjacent buildings commonly found in the heart of a traditional town used for community gatherings. Usually there is significant building as church, town hall, theatre etc. The character of current New Square is very difficult to grasp. It is on the boundary between park, square and untidy parking area. It doesn’t offer much reasons to stop and therefore its potential is untapped. In our proposal we create the square in the true sense of the word, but for the most part we keep also a recreational area in a newly renovated park. There is a new multifunctional space that can be an impulse for significant recovery of surrounded buildings.

“Kortrijk”

9th Semester, KU Leuven Gent Co-Autor of urban design: Lucie Pavlistikova Tutors: Erik Van Daele, Maarten Gheysen Site is on the edge between landscape and built area. Currently there are two factories. Our task was to design project for the situation when factories are no longer working and the whole site is abandoned. Belgium is densely built-up country so there is not many plots left which are big enough to construct new economical programmes, but there is still enough space to fit in residential project and densiy current urban area. this revealed decision to keep the site as a productional site. There’s potential to have nice green environment right next to the site, but site is limited by private parcels on which the family houses with gardens are situated. That’s why the main focus is on connection of these back gardens to the site. How these spaces should look like? The main idea is to bring city closer to the landscape and other way round. To reach this idea the concept is about creating “fingers” which fit into each other.

“120 Hours Preservation” Competition 2015 Co-autors: Štěpán Vašut Pyramiden is a place which is not important because of mining or soviet architecture. It is a place which was made mainly by people and theirs stories. When they were forced to leave in 1998, they have lost their homes which remained in place and commemorate the period but are not showing real stories of people. We don’t want to make a tourist attraction from the area but we would like to keep it as hidden treasure where the nature will play the major role. We decided to give Pyramiden back to the people who formed the city before. The idea is to start dismantling houses, what will be connected with event where inhabitants can help with deconstructing of houses or it can serve just as an opportunity to say the last goodbye. Gained material will be used to product new chairs which will be given to everyone who ever lived or worked here, so they can take part of their former home into the current one. Remaining chairs will be offered to sale. Earnings will be used for construction of new bivouac shelter and the rest of the money will be donated to protection of the nature and further research. After years affected by global warming the nature will change and the valley will probably be covered with forest and much more years after it may even be flooded.

“WFF” White Foam Factory - my own blog focusing on different fields of art and design. I started this blog because of a feeling, that I should somehow colect all things which inspires me. These days we are bombarded with immense number of all kinds of visual data, new techniques or “inventions”, so it is hard to orient yourself in this mess. This blog serves me as some kind of catalogue of things I want to remember. Each post consist of photos/video and short description of the artist and the project.

“Artmart Artmart is a clothing brand based in Brno which is producing t-shirts and bags with different motives inspired by art and architecture. We started the brand with the idea of uniqueness, that is why we decided to produce each motive in limited edition. Each t-shirt is also marked with unique number in the serie so there won’t be anyone else with the exactly same t-shirt. Production is hand made and we do it all by ourselves from design, through printing and cutting, to application by ironing press.
