GRIDS & HIERARCHY
Raeann Langas
LAYOUT ONE 8 pt type
Hierarchy is where you want the readers eye to go through the composition. Through my designs I strategically placed the most important information in a place where the reader would look first. Here, the title and subtitle are positioned at the top so the readers eye will go directly to the title then travel to the types of Typographic Diseases and to their definitions. In this composition, there are no other elements besides type placement to tell the reader where to go, so placement must be very strategic.
8 pt type + one additional type size The larger font for the title tells the reader that that is the most important information therefore read that firs.
8pt type + one additional type size + color In this composition, color helps tell the reader where to direct their eye. The title is the largest and also the biggest so the most important. Then the Typographic Diseases are shown in color to distinguish them from the definition.
8pt type + different variations of type Here, only different variations of type tell the reader where to go. Utilizing bold and light helvetica helps the reader move through the composition.
Any combination Since the title is necessary to understand the rest of the information I chose to display it in bold as well as a color. The subhead comes next and is in italics. The disease titles are also in bold to emphasize their importance.
LAYOUT TWO 8 pt type
The title and subhead are placed away form the other information to guide the readers eye there first.
8 pt type + one additional type size Again, the title is emphasized with bold to establish hierarchy.
8pt type + one additional type size + color Color is used to establish hierarchy and guide the reader through the composition.
8pt type + different variations of type Here, only different variations of type tell the reader where to go. Utilizing bold and light helvetica helps the reader move through the composition.
Any combination The title is set apart by using oblique as well as color.
LAYOUT THREE 8 pt type
The title and subhead are placed above the rest of the information to direct the reader.
8 pt type + one additional type size The title and subhead are placed above the rest of the information to direct the reader. The Title is also in bold to establish hierarchy.
8pt type + one additional type size + color Color is another method used to establish hierarchy.
8pt type + different variations of type Here, bold type is used to show importance and separate the title and subheads.
Any combination Again, the use of color and bold type guide the reader.
