Cochin was originally century copper them after Cochin, in 1917, and an interpretation of
Hard Metal and phototype versions of Cochin were used in some of the first issues of Rolling Stone magazine. Cochin is a wide and large typeface that was popular in the early 20th century. Cochin displays a curious mix of style elements and has many stylistic nuances that classified it as part of the Neorenaissance movement in typography.
designed by Georges Peignot in 1913. Peignot based the font on eighteenth engravings done by Nicolas Cochin. Georges Peignot designed two fonts and named one in 1912, and another in 1914. The design was adapted for Monotype machines American Type Founders produced a version in 1925. In 1977, Matthew Carter drew the design, called Cochin, for Linotype phototypesetting machines.
