Everyday Tips : Homemade Taco Seasoning Spice packets at the store are often expensive and overflowing with salt and other fillers. Next time you make tacos, fajitas, or other Tex Mex dishes, save money with this homemade taco seasoning recipe. Homemade spice blends last for at least a year in an airtight jar, and you can shop for these basic spices in the bulk section – that way, you purchase only as much as you need.
Ingredients
• 1 tablespoon kosher salt • 1 tablespoon black pepper • 3 tablespoons chili powder • 2 tablespoons ground cumin • 2 teaspoons paprika
• 1 teaspoon garlic powder • 1 teaspoon onion powder • 1 teaspoon red pepper flakes • 1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper
Directions
Mix everything together and use 1 ½ tablespoons per pound of beef, chicken veggies, etc. For an even more flavorful blend, try buying the cumin and peppercorns whole, toasting, and then grinding them in a spice grinder.
