THE PRESSURES WITHIN THIS BOUNDARY PREVENT FROM ANY LIVING ORGANISM TO OCCUPY ITS SACRED TERRITORY. IN ANCIENT TIMES, OD AND ONE “SAIR LAAZAZEL”, MEANING ONE SCAPEGOAT WAS TOSSED DOWN THE CLIFF TO HELL. AMONG THOSE OFFERINGS WAS A MAN NAMED JOSHUA BEN YOSEF (AKA JESUS CHRIST), R EVERYONE TO COME TOGETHER AND WITH HIS DEATH, HE MAY HAVE DIVIDED THE TWO SIDES FOREVER. UNIFICATION PROJECT WEST BRATTLEBORO, VT DESIGNER JERUSALEM MINISTRIES AT ACER FARM
ACER FARM, IN COLLABORATION WITH KIDS4PEACE AND PRIVATE DONORS, HAS BECOME A LEADING PEACE CAMP FOR ISRAELI AND PALESTINIAN CHILDREN OUTSIDE OF THEIR HOME COUNTRY. THE CAMPERS AND COUNSELORS DEAL WITH A HIGHLY SENSITIVE AND LOADED SUBJECT: THE CONFLICT IN ISRAEL-PALESTINE. WHILE THE CAMP EMBRACES DIFFERENT POINTS OF VIEWS,ALL PARTICIPANTS HAVE A SINGLE OBJECTIVE IN COMMON: HOW TO MAKE PEACE IN ISRAEL-PALESTINE. ACER FARM’S NEUTRAL GROUNDS AND ITS SERENE SURROUNDINGS CREATE AN IDEAL SPACE FOR THE DIFFICULT TASK AT HAND. ITHE CAMP’S MAIN TASK IS TO PRODUCE FUTURE LEADERSHIP THAT COULD CHANGE THE POLITICAL PLAYING FIELD IN THE FUTURE.
ACER FARM IS THE INSTRUMENT FOR CHANGE AND ITS METHOD IS REFRAMING THE
PARTICIPANT’S PERCEPTION FROM A STATE OF HOPELESSNESS TO A STATE OF EMPOWERMENT.
THE YOUNG PIONEERS BECOME TO UNDERSTAND THAT THEIR NEGATIVE EXPERIENCE
OF STRUGGLE GIVES THEM THE UNIQUE OPPORTUNITY TO BE PART OF MAKING POSITIVE AND MEANINGFUL CHANGE.

NATURAL TOPOGRAPHY AND ELEVATION OF ACER FARM INFORMS THE POSITIONING OF THE PROGRAMMATIC ELEMENTS. THE ACHIEVEMENT OF HIGHER AWARENESS IS KEY IN THE CAMP’S UNDERTAKING. TO ADDRESS THIS PROCESS, GATHERING SPACES ARE SITUATED BASED ON THEIR FUNCTIONAL PURPOSES AND THEIR SPIRITUAL QUALITIES. THE NATURAL ASCENSION THROUGH THE INCREASINGLY SPIRITUALLY EVOCATIVE SPACES AMPLIFIES THE SPIRITUAL ELEVATION TO A HIGHER SENSE OF AWARENESS.
LOCAL NATURAL MATERIALS ARE ABUNDANT ON THE SITE. AS PART OF ENSURING THAT
THE CAMPERS SENSE AT HOME, THE ARCHITECTURE WILL CONSIST PRIMARILY FROM THE ELEMENTS SEEN AROUND THEM.
THE USE OF LOCAL MATERIALS ALSO SERVES AS A CENTRAL EXAMPLES RANGE FROM ADOBE MOSQUES IN AFRICA TO TIMBER SYNAGOGUES IN RURAL POLAND. COMPONENT IN TRADITIONAL SYNAGOGUE AND MOSQUE ARCHITECTURE.

TIKAL WAS THE MOST PROSPEROUS AND EXPANSIVE CITY IN MAYAN HISTORY. THIS PROPOSAL AIMS TO REFRAME THIS CITY AS THE GRAND SPECTACLE IT ONCE WAS . A NEW THRESHOLD BETWEEN ANCIENT AND MODERN, THIS INTERVENTION POSITS TIKAL AS A MARVEL AND A TREASURE. THE ACT OF ASCENSION IS SOMETHING INGRAINED HEAVILY IN THE SPIRITUAL NATURE OF THE MAYAN PEOPLE. TO USE THIS HIDDEN LANGUAGE EVIDENCED DISCRETELY IN THE ASTOUNDING ANCIENT ARCHITECTURE CLOSE BY, IS TO CREATE A TRULY UNIQUE EXPERIENCE WHILE VISITING THE SITE. TO ASCEND, TO PONDER, TO INTERACT, TO CONSTANTLY FRAME THE CONTEXT ONE FINDS THEMSELVES IN COMPARED TO THEIR MOST SHROUDED AND MYSTERIOUS DESTINATION IS WHAT THE UNIQUE SITING STRATEGY ALLOWS FOR.
BY BECOMING A DIRECT EXTENSION OF THE EXISTING CITADEL PODIUM, VISITORS CAN
EXPERIENCE THE STRONG CONNECTION BOTH SPATIALLY AND SPIRITUALLY BETWEEN THIS NEW BUILT ENVIRONMENT AND THE ANCIENT SITE THAT IT RESPECTFULLY ENGAGES.
TO VISIT
THE MEANDERING MUSEUM, TO STAY IN THE BREATHTAKING YET EFFICIENT ECO HOSTEL, OR
TO BREATHE IN THE RADIANT PERFUME OF THE NATIVE TREE AND PLANT SPECIES, ALL WHILE WITHIN THE PRESENCE OF MAJESTIC

THE CONCEPT OF VERTICAL LIVING HAS BEEN DEVELOPED AND UTILIZED FOR A CENTURY. THE SYMBOLIC POWER AND THE EFFICIENT CONSTRUCTION HAS PROVED ITSELF AND HAS BECOME THE NEW NORM OF DEVELOPMENT WHERE THE ENVIRONMENT ALLOWS. NEVERTHELESS, WITH ALL THE BENEFITS OF SUCH A CONSTRUCTION, THE SKYSCRAPERS HAVE PROVEN TO LOSE THE BENEFIT ASSOCIATED WITH DIRECT CONTACT TO THE URBAN GROUND CONDITION AT THE STREET LEVEL.
THE GROUND SURFACE CARRIES IMPORTANT HISTORIC AND SOCIAL STRATA OF INFORMATION
THAT ARE NECESSARY FOR CITIZENS TO PARTICIPATE IN THE ORGANIC URBAN DEVELOPMENT.

LIVING FAR REMOVED VERTICALLY IN AN ISOLATED APARTMENT CREATES AN ALIENATION AND DISCONNECT FROM THE REST OF THE CITY. THIS PROJECT ANSWERS THE DEMANDS OF VERTICAL LIVING BY BRINGING THE HORIZONTAL PERFORMANCE OF THE STREET AND EXTENDING IT INTO THE TOWER. THE MASSIVE BUILDING INCORPORATES 40 CITY BLOCKS OF HOUSING, CIVIC SERVICES, STORES, RESTAURANTS, GARDENS AND RECREATION FOR A STRONG INDEPENDENT AND INTERCONNECTED VERTICAL NEIGHBORHOOD.

INDEPENDENT PROJECTS BEACON IN THE PARK NEW YORK COMPETITION PROPOSAL, 2010
THE MODERN SUKKAH CALLS FOR A STRONG, FIRM STRUCTURE APPROPRIATE FOR A PEOPLE WITH A CULTURE, PRESENCE, AND A NOW SECURE PLACE IN THE WORLD. THE SUKKAH SINGS OF THE SPIRITUAL AND PHYSICAL TRANSFORMATION THE JEWISH PEOPLE HAVE UNDERGONE. AS THE SPACE UNFOLDS AND OPENS ITS SANCTITY TO THE OUTSIDE WORLD IT DOES SO KNOWING THAT IT WILL BE GREETED WITH WARMTH. AT ITS MOST SHUT CONDITION IT IS A SUKKAH IN THE TRADITIONAL SENSE, AN INTIMATE REALM FOR A FAMILY TO REFLECT ON THE MITZVAH THEY HAVE UNDERTAKEN. THE SPATIAL EXPERIENCE ACCOMMODATES THE ACTIVITIES OF THE FESTIVAL OF SUKKOS, INCLUDING HOSPITALITY, DINING, LEARNING, AND SLEEPING. AT ITS MOST PHYSICALLY OPEN CONDITION THE SUKKAH IS A FLUID GALLERY AND PUBLIC SPACE. THE OPEN PASSAGE THROUGH THE SUKKAH ENCOURAGES CURIOUS PASSERS-BY TO ENGAGE AND UNDERSTAND THE SUKKAH AS ART, ARCHITECTURE, AND A CULTURAL SYMBOL. THE SET OF RESPONSIBILITIES ACCEPTED BY THE JEWS HAS GIVEN THEM A GUIDING ETHICAL ROLE TO PLAY IN THE WORLD. THE SUKKAH’S ROLE ECHOES THAT OF ITS PEOPLE AS IT BECOMES A BEACON OF LIGHT FOR ALL CULTURES, A PLACE OF HARMONY AND PEACE. PERHAPS AT ITS MOST PHYSICALLY OPEN IT IS ALSO AT ITS MOST SPIRITUALLY OPEN, AN INVITATION FOR THOSE WHO ARE WITHOUT TO COME IN AND SHARE WITH THOSE WHO CAN PROVIDE.
