ORIENTATION PROGRAM 2016-2017 The Happiness Program: An Art of Living Initiative Modern day students’ life is one full of stress and mostly unwanted mental turbulence. It is in this jumbled mind state that life is approached with which eventually drops the graph of the student in not just academics but with respect to every aspect of one’s life. The Happiness Program which is also known as YES+ (Youth Empowerment Skills) was thus conducted by an Art of Living teacher for the first year M.Com students at Seshadripuram First Grade College campus in Yelahanka. The teacher Mr. Ram helped the students to imbibe a fitness regime in the form of Yoga as well as aided in cleansing a cluttered mind in the form of meditation, patterned and rhythmic breathing techniques as well as the renowned “SudharshanaKriya” in the program that lasted in its full swing for a whole week. Redeeming one’s own mind to act in a peaceful and organized manner at all situations was a marvel that most of them experienced in this one week of the program. The final phase of the program witnessed all students being taken to the Art of Living Ashram in Kanakapura Road, Bengaluru to merely experience the gravity with which the volunteer based organization piloted by Shri Shri Shri Ravishankar, is working to bring in world peace and to accomplish the motto of “One World One Family”. Despite being a week long break from academics, the amount of value addition that was done in the one week of the program was immense with its positivity sure to reverberate in everyone’s life for a long time to come.
STUDENT'S CORNER BOOK TALKS 'How to Win Friends and Influence People' – By Dale Carnegie Communication is very essential in all spheres of interactions. But it is very crucial in Business environments as well as informal environments. It is very important to note that how we communicate to make long lasting friendships starts from how we observe our own behavior. This book illustrates with vast examples on how to 'not' communicate. In other words, 'don't do to others what you would not like to be done to yourself'. With that in mind, the book will demonstrate how you can develop your basic communication skills to gain a friendship out of an acquaintance. At the end of every single chapter, there is a summary of things you have to remember to follow, which is very simple and practical. Continuous practicing of these crucial tips will keep not only keep friendships alive; it will also influence people to your way of thinking. This book is especially very helpful to persons interested in developing their Interpersonal Communication Skills.

'Body Language' – By Allan Pease
Akash Vasan
Body language is something that all of us use to communicate but without our own knowledge. It is an interesting fact that close to 90 percent of communication happens via this medium and only the remaining 10 percent happens via verbal language. The art of understanding body language is what Allan Pease has managed to beautifully illustrate and explain in his book. Starting from a simple gesture of “folding hands” which all of us do in our daily life so as to denote defense against the social atmosphere of the place or the atmospheric temperature in a few cases, all the way up to the way we space ourselves from people when we communicate, this book manages to pull every string that human body tries to spin in the course of daily life. A hand shake which is considered to be a basic form of formal greeting also has a great significance with respect to the grip of the hold, the position of the palm, etc. Such is the intensity with which body language works and one can easily absorb all this knowledge from this book that is penned in a real simple but complete manner by Allan Pease.
RESEARCH AND PUBLICATIONS Future of Indian Banking: 'Personalized Pocket Banker' Indian Banking System acts as the fuel system of the whole economy. Such a powerful system is bound to undergo a major metamorphosis in a very phased and gradual manner over the next few decades. Plastic money that denotes both credit and debit cards will also face a transformation that is going to add a platter of benefits to both the customer as well as the Banking Institutions. Credit Card Frauds and Transaction Failures are on the rise due to which banks are facing unforeseen losses. This can be mitigated to a major extent if the method of handling funds to and fro from a particular bank account can be evolved into a system that is more secure and authenticating which will benefit the Banking System as a whole. A Personal Pocket Banker (P2B) is a revolutionary device that is going to be the catalyst of Banking System transformation and operations for the upcoming three decades. Starting from the year 2020 which the visionary Late Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam foresaw as the year of India's rise to a developed economy status, this device can viably serve as a back-bone to the quotient of Secure Banking at a new level. With the initial target audience being 'High Net Worth Individuals' (HNWIs) PPB can be imbibed slowly into the economy as a whole with the mission being taking banking operation to a whole new and improved dimension at the very hands of the customers. -Akash Vasan & S Venkatesh (I Semester M.Com)
INDIAN BANKING SYSTEM CLOUD (IBSC) The banking industry has undergone tremendous changes over the past few decades. The transformation over the period has resulted in the banking sector to digitalize, westernize and become customer centric. And the increase in the volume of financial transactions has necessitated the banks to have a well equipped back office support system comprising of a stronger customer database. Problems like identity theft, financial frauds, terrorist financing and money laundering gave birth to the concept called Know Your Customer (KYC) by RBI in the year 2002. Although it has helped to store Customer Identity Information, study Customers' transaction behavior and risk management to a major extent, there is no efficient common system in place to monitor the authenticity of the customer database across banking institutions. Added to this is the problem of duplication of identity, repetitive procedures and customer inconvenience. How can the banks have a common platform for Customer Information? How can IBSC be beneficial to the government, financial institutions and the customers? Cloud computing is the need of the day. All the valid customer information collected so far through the KYC forms by respective banks can be pooled into the “Indian Banking System Cloud (IBSC)”. IBSC gives access to each customer's financial database under a single roof which can be utilized by banks, credit rating agencies, IT authorities and the government. - Harshitha S., Ramya Y.R. & Durga K.
