Full Embodiment Community Clinic [Sample Only] Home What is Somatic Experiencing? When many of us think of trauma, anxiety, or other psychological stressors, we think of them as a purely mental experience. This is not entirely true! Emotions actually occur in the body as physical sensations that the mind interprets. When we experience trauma, it programs our fight, flight, or freeze response to constantly run a program within our physical bodies. In other words, these experiences get “trapped” or “stuck” in our bodies. Somatic Experiencing opens us up to our awareness of our physical bodies, getting us more in-tune with our mind-body alignment, allowing us to reach symptoms we are unable to resolve purely in our minds. This creates a bottom-up approach that allows us to attack the root of the problem at its source in the physical body. In other words, we aren’t just treating the mental symptom, but healing the root cause. Working with a Somatic Experiencing Practitioner can significantly increase your tolerance and management of anxiety symptoms. Your SEP can engage somatic skills gently and slowly to allow the full integration of these changes at a pace that works for you.
About Ferzin Irani, SEP ● ●
I am familiar with providing a safe container to explore how faith intersects with your life. I know how to be faith-friendly if this is part of your life.
I am a Somatic Experience Practitioner and a licensed MFT (Marriage/Family Therapist) in select states. Though I cannot yet provide MFT services in the state of California, I provide specialized psycho-education and treatment for anxiety based on the bottom-up SE approach where we engage somatic skills for increasing the management and tolerance of anxiety. These can work synonymously with your psychotherapeutic practitioner. I have recent successes of shepherding clients with significant anxiety symptoms toward more effective management and reduction of symptom intensity. In fact, I have had numerous clients taper off from weekly sessions and shift gears in their treatment goals because their experience of anxiety was that much improved. That I have solid experience as an LMFT sets me apart because I can provide a capable container for situations that inevitably overlap between somatic work and psychotherapy. How I work: I meet you where you’re at and invite dialogue about whatever is real for you in regards to the work we share together in a compassionate and non-judgmental space. I am HIPPA complaint in honoring your privacy. We start where the symptoms are most impacting you. In other words, we don't start at ground zero of your trauma. That would be re-traumatizing and counter-productive! We do this gently and slowly to allow sufficient space to integrate changes. My service can be a stand-alone or it can be combined with psychotherapy to amplify its impact on desirable change. I provide care for adults and teenagers with anxiety who are ready to practice somatic/bottom-up ways of navigating anxiety outside of our meetings. I am POC and LGBTQ friendly.
