THE HEALER OF THE CITY MA Architecture and Urbanism, Manchester School of Architecture Thesis Project 2019 Medan, Indonesia The healer of the city is the project to heal the urban issues. Medan is located in North Sumatra, Indonesia inhabited by approximately 2.5 million people. The town lacks public green space, polluted, and the poverty rate is high than the national standard. The population problem is making the city has to face a serious issue. By 2050, 68% of the people will reside in the city, which means more people to feed. The healer of the city is the project located in a former commercial airport in Medan. The idea is to turn the airport into green public space and urban farms. The airport will be designed into AgriPark, where people can go to the park, and the agriculture area has the purpose of feeding the city from the vertical farm and aquaponics system.

Section A-A
The approach is to think forward to how the city will look like in the future, tackle the city’s issues, and predict what will happen in the future. Food is one of the significant issues around the world. Million of people still lack nutritional food, and producing the diet can also harm the environment if it is done in the wrong way. The scientist has discovered a new method for growing food through hydroponics and aquaponics systems. Moreover, it is predicted that algae can be one of the future food. The urban farms supported with the vertical farms will reduce the impact from transporting the food, as the distance will be reduced since the production will be in the city, and the transporting will be using drone to deliver the food to the local market.
Section B-B
Vertical Farm and Canal Section
The vertical farms are applying the aquaponics system to grow the food, as well as breed the fish. The water will be pumped from the canal, and rainwater tank performs as the collector of rainwater to water the crops. The form of the floor plan is circular to ensure the plants are exposed to sunlight.

ESCOLINHA FLOR DA MANHA Article 25 Team Project Competition by Archstorming 2019 2019 Xai-Xai, Mozambique On our initial impression of the preschool brief and the site is gentle, lush grasslands left us wanting to craft something playful, fluid & a haven for children, children with disabilities, teachers & the community. The site is situated near the top of a gentle hill in the rural area of Xai-Xai near Maputo, capital of Mozambique. It is east of the Limpopo River, 24km from the sea. The bulk of building follows the contours of the land to minimise hand excavation. Building mass is kept low, with the exception of the proposed dining/community hall, which opens towards the south. Traditional Capulanas, vibrant cotton cloth, inspired the building’s fluid twist form with dynamic prints. Capulanas is a symbol of creativity & serves everyday life.

Perspective Section
The materials pallete is restrained & locally sourced, i.e., earth, bamboo/ timber, clay tiles, palm leaf, fabric, etc. All spaces are designed through the eyes of the children. The step-free building has a clear circulation to promote disability inclusion. Playful shifts in scale, level, division of large spaces allow flexibility for teaching. The multitude of play areas allows for children of different ages & needs to be separated. The structural grid is modular to improve constructability & provides flexibility for future use change.

APATOA BEACH & GARDEN VILLAGE Ibuku Bali Team Project Masterplan & Concept 2020 Raiatea Island, French Polynesia Apatoa Beach & Garden Village is a medium scale resort which we designed with material predominantly with bamboo. The resort applied the concept of sustainability and encouraged to show the beauty of Polynesian culture. There are 15 bungalows with facilities such as restaurant, beach quarter, wellness centre, and spiritual area. The design process was challenging because the site is prone to the cyclone; the building has to withstand the 204km/h of the cyclone. The new approach to designing the bamboo was established by integrating the bamboo poles with laminated bamboo and strengthening the joineries.

43 Seddon Rd House Studio Jayga London Team project Concept Stage 2020 Morden, Greater London, United Kingdom First initial for this family house is to extend the kitchen and combine with small tv lounge space and renovate couple of rooms. The kitchen will be the spotlight of this house as this will be the place for the family to gather and children can play freely. Large window installed to ensure the connection between interior and outdoor area merging. We designed the house with minimalist and contemporary style, with wood predominantly execute the furniture.
The backyard is important as part of house element. We designed the backyard into two section, the hard scape backyard and green lush backyard. The kitchen occupied family’s activities in here and to make the dining experience enhance we installed roof light above the dining table. The facade will be covered with high quality render and we want to keep it as simple as possible.
The first glance at the interior is the neutral colour. We ensemble the wood colour mixed with black and grey to make the area more comfortable and relax. The cabinet installed to store and display books, decoration, and children’s toy. We intend this kitchen to be the heart of the house where the whole family gather. To increase the quality of the timber, we set the hidden light to make the atmosphere more dramatic.
