Important things to note about this site, is the restrictions builders have due to heritage listing. Also, interesting to see the differences in current and past construction systems.

Group 2’s site was seen to be in very early stages of construction still. Because of this, we were able to see the different foundations and support systems that are laid down at the very beginning of a build.

As well as presentations, this week students showed off their Oval Pavilion group models to the rest of the class. The two other groups had the task of creating the sail structure of the pavilion, with one group doing the West side and the other group doing the East side of the structure.

The model below shows a section of the oval pavilions sale structure. It is a very long model, which had many cantilevered elements, which can be seen below on the very left of the model. Because of this, and the fact that the model was not secured onto a base, it was difWicult to keep the model upright without other types of support.

The model above was made with the same materials as the model that my group made (balsa wood), however the method of joining the construction members was different and much more effective. Whereas my group used masking tape, this group used glue and pins to join their balsa wood bits, creating a much cleaner and precise model. Note that this model had a lot more horizontal members than our model, which is all held up on only a few vertical columns.
