46 STOVES IN A LEAGUE OF THEIR OWN, BRIMMING WITH AESTHETICS, TECHNOLOGY AND GREEN THINKING... A wood-burning stove from RAIS unites aesthetics with technology. Form with function. Design with craftsmanship. We call this philosophy Art of Fire. This is why the results of the work of our designers and craftsmen are nothing other than extraordinary. And so the stove you get is in a league of its own. The wood-burning stoves from RAIS are made without joints, visible welds or details that lack a specific function – whether practical or aesthetic. Accessories are available in many different colours and materials such as steel, aluminium, glass and soapstone that will satisfy your desire to invite elements and nuances from nature into your home.

Our stoves are now also available with CleverAir. As the name suggests, we have developed a sort of an intelligent technology that is capable of automatically controlling the air regulation in the stove. This ensures constant supply of the right amount of air for combustion and saves on fuel. The stoves from RAIS can also draw their combustion air from the outside, via AirSystem. They all feature efficient combustion, even at low outputs. And always offer an impressive view of the fire through large, clear panes of glass. So yes, we always think of design and function – as well as the environment! And we have stoves that are suitable for any home – from a castle to the most humble of cabins. See below what we at RAIS can do for you...

CLEVERAIR

Simple, Convenient, Clean and Economical... When a stove from RAIS is equipped with CleverAir, it is surprisingly easy and convenient to fire. This technological miracle makes sure that the stove always gets the right amount of air and allows you to easily focus your attention elsewhere. With optimal air supply, the stove continuously delivers the cleanest and most effective combustion. The former is naturally for the benefit of the environment, whereas the latter improves the stove’s fuel economy as it results in better utilisation of the fuel. Proper combustion also keeps the glass panes clean. In other words, the automated system makes sure that you can always enjoy a perfect view of the fire. There is a story about interesting engineering details behind the designation ”CleverAir”. In short, a so-called bi-metal expands according to the ambient temperature and regulates the air.

White is the colour of purity. Clear, neutral simplicity. A tone that always fits. RAIS’ white is not a chalk kind of white, but a rather distinct, delicate white. Like snow in Norway shining in the sun. A stove all in white will add a particular sense of brightness to your room.

Nordic Colour – enjoy! The choice is all yours! Rais Q-20

When an element in your home is highlighted in a certain colour, it contributes to setting a particular mood. Peace. Harmony. Purity. Pensiveness. Joy. Liveliness. Without making us think so much about it in our daily lives, this colour affects our inner universe – and resonates with it. This colour strikes a certain register in our minds. And we sense it. Nordic Colour is RAIS’ line of exquisite nuances that borrows inspiration from Scandinavia. This colour range mirrors a number of hand-picked beautiful and clear colours found in Nordic nature – reflecting the light, the brightness, the open spaces, the sand on the beach. A stove in Nordic Colour becomes an active element of your interior decoration and starts a delicate interplay with the rest of the architectonic and creative details of your home. Here are the colours we have available for your stove: The choice is yours.

Silver is a fine nuance, and what is extraordinary about it is that we have taken a look that is typical for a piece of jewellery – and customised it for a stove. Beautiful and minimalist, silver will bring a sure touch of exclusivity to your home.

Rais Pilar 150

Platinum creates associations with extravagance. At the same time, we know that platinum is an element in the periodic table. Platinum resembles grey, but with a delicate hint of luxury that allows it to tell a rather different and special story. Grey nuances are super trendy, and this particular one is in a league of its own.

Nickel is a colour from nature’s universe, which is an eternal source of wonderful intermediate tones – such as, for example, the hues formed when fertile topsoil and sand meet together. Nickel signals soothing effortlessness that just lets your gaze rest... A calming and enjoyable tone in everyday life.

Rais Viva L Rais Rina

Mocca is a warm and spacious colour, with just a hint of quality spices, burned wood and stout. It brings into play a certain type of sensuality and effortlessly blends into your living space, while hinting that you have made an active choice of colour.

Rais Viva L Classic

Rais Q-Be

You can never go wrong with black, this is a classic colour for all stoves. This is also the colour or – more exactly – lack of pigment of sheer darkness that simply knows its place. Black, solid and massively discreet. Strong-minded quality and pure tranquillity. Black is black. 7

Class and Perfection Aesthetics and Function In Colour

Rais pilar RAIS’ new Pilar model is an outstanding design achievement: circular and with an enormous view of the flames through the large curved glass door. It will adorn your home as a majestic sculpture and will definitely draw all the attention. Nothing less than international-class design. Two different heights available to make it possible to create harmony in the room. A bonus is the automatic regulation of the air supply. You will no longer have to worry about adjusting the air supply as the automation system will ensure optimal combustion at all times. Fire up, close the door and it will click right into place thanks to its technically refined self-locking system. The stove can be mounted with a super smart, stepless, frictionless swivel base and can be easily rotated using the handle.

Rais pilar uniqUE This raw steel stove is given its unique coating by an oxidation process that goes on under the open sky where wind, temperature and rain join forces to create a rather special finish for a period of up to five weeks, while the stoves are turned manually to ensure even patination. After the completion of the oxidation process, the stove is treated with an oil that emphasises the beautiful, golden glow of the finish.

RAIS ON Hafjell… When one of Norway’s oldest and best-reputed timber house producers, Rindalshytter, puts its signs on the block, it is only high quality based on tradition and innovation that can be expected. This is valid whether the construction is a single-family house, summerhouse, longhouse or a custom house made as per the customer’s desires. Industrial designer Ole Petter Wullum is on the team to ensure that the overall design maintains a simple and clear mode of expression through and through. 22

Photo: Inger Marie Grini

This also applies to the newly-designed longhouse on Hafjell, which is meant to be the first one in a series of such houses. This dream home is the embodiment of peace. Large glass surfaces and simplicity. Inside we are greeted by vast, open spaces and a centrally positioned RAIS Q-20, which meets the ceiling at the ridge. Rindalshytter’s choice fell on RAIS. Since it is the exact same values that we share.

Rais Q-TEE

is a master of spreading nice, pleasant warmth... Here is a series of robust, functional stoves whose cubist look makes it easy to find a place for them in the modern home. There are plenty of options for combination. Should it stay solitary and unostentatious on a plate on the floor? Or be placed on a bench? Built together with matching firewood steel boxes, benches or shelves? Or mounted on the wall? Or maybe the stove should be so positioned as to allow you to prepare a warm delicacy on the top plate now and then. RAIS gives you – so to speak – all the elements, and it is you who is to dream, draw and bring into life the setting and the layout that are the best fit for your life and daily activities in your home and the design of your building.

28

Rais Q-Tee Here is RAIS’ new suggestion for a small, functional and simple stove with a cubist look. Q-Tee tends to be a good match for smaller heating needs and small rooms. Common sense and classic design. Nice efficiency and combustion characteristics. A shaking grate and an ash tray. You can choose the basic model and place it on the floor, on a hearth or on a bench or, e.g. a concrete base. Or opt for the wall-mounted model. Q-Tee is available in four heights: 57 cm, 65 cm, 85 cm and 93 cm. Available with a glass door or a frame in steel. The stove is supplied with a top or rear outlet for the flue duct.

And since the combustion chamber is reinforced and has extra air supply, this stove is also suitable for multifuel. The large window pane provides a magnificent view of the flames. Available with and without a base. There are additional options for the stove to be combined with bench units (see pictures on left and on page 77). From a Fishnet Warehouse to a Holiday Home with Q-Tee A family has found a one-of-a-kind location tucked among cliffs and fjords in the Scottish highlands and with, to put it mildly, a fantastic view of a small archipelago across the sea. They have transformed a former fishnet warehouse into a streamlined, functional and visually striking holiday home, with panoramic glass walls and sliding doors – just a stone’s throw away from the water. All of the house’s rooms and interior decoration are based on a desire to experience, to the extent humanly possible, the wealth of impressions streaming from the sky, sea and rocky coast all around. There is just one distinctive detail to break the consistent impression of glass and bright walls. A black RAIS Q-Tee 2 has found a central placement on the ground floor and cuts across both of the floors – all the way to the ridge on the ground floor and then through the first floor. The Net Store House is located outside the Village of Ardheslaig on the Applecross peninsula. Foto: landscapes365

31

Hand-Picked with Care… Coincidence and accident are given no chance when it is designer duo Mette Lyng Hansen and Mads Odgaard – partners in life and at the drawing board – that is in charge of interior decoration, drawing and design. Their Swedish farm features, in a prominent place, nothing other than a RAIS 700. Thanks to the stove’s clean window function that keeps the pane of the wide door clean, it stands in a razor-sharp contrast as the living room’s only screen, with a clearly visible fire – at all times. While at the minimalist black longhouse at Esrum Lake, the main door at the middle of the long side leads to a deep and functional entrance hall. Once the sliding doors are pushed aside, we find a RAIS Viva in the midmost area of the house, near the footwear and overcoats. Along with some noticeable heat...

LINE WITH BEAUTIFUL STONE TO KEEP THE HEAT ON AND ON...

You may opt to line or cover your stove with stone. It will keep the heat from the stove for significantly longer and will help take better advantage of the firewood. Heat accumulating stones are available for RAIS Pilar, RAIS Viva L 120, RAIS Q-Be, RAIS Q-20, RAIS Hera and RAIS Juno.

Soapstone is one of nature’s wonders, created within the Earth’s crust by enormous pressure and intense heat acting together over aeons of time. Soapstone, steatite, soaprock – it goes by many names. Now that we have uncovered its secret, it turns into quality of life in the living room, sauna or kitchen where the heat it emits will drag on for hours. And its beautiful surface with patterns and markings in delicate nuances makes every single stone into a one-of-a-kind work of art.

danish design and quality for the Entire World…

RAIS A/S is a Danish manufacturing company that creates wood-burning stoves, inserts and accessories in a modern production environment that employs the newest robotic technology and measuring instruments. However, the concept of wood-burning stoves and RAIS as a company have been around for more than 35 years.

In the mid-1990s, it was sold and taken over by Swiss company Attika, where it got its new name. The change to RAIS A/S marked the beginning of a new era. Today, RAIS has a number of employees in the fields of development, design and production of wood-burning stoves and accessories.

The factory was founded by the Ørskov family, which later on founded Ørskov Stålskibsværft, now Orskov Yard. The machine shop originally manufactured traditional machine components.

As you’ll be able to literally see – through the fire! RAIS Visio 2:1 is practically invisible. The widescreen design creates a lasting impression, which is only emphasised by the clean panes. A slim structure makes it easy to fit into the wall. The elegant expression is emphasised by the vertical sliding system, which ensures first-class fire, along with pleasant, even heat output. Architects from the Entire World Saw RAIS 2:1 in a Timber Cottage A cottage at Laksvatn south of Tromsø in Norway was presented at the Venice Biennale of Architecture in 2016 among a number of other Norwegian timber constructions. The cottage is a product of the cooperation between two fellow architects, Lars Hamran and André S. Johansen, with a result that is both interesting and functional. With 35 square metres on the ground floor and 14 additional on the first floor, each square metre is carefully used – with no fewer than nine beds available. The cottage is heated by a RAIS 2:1 stove that can be enjoyed from both sides. The plot was purchased by the owner’s grandfather in 1942. The placement, roof pitch and corner windows are again inherited from the old cottage – which has now been revived in a whole new mode of expression and aesthetic feeling.

Rais q-tee

insert

The Q-Tee insert is quite simply an efficient little stove that can act as a fireplace just exactly where there is room for it – in the kitchen, in a cosy corner or in the apartment. Or perhaps in the holiday cottage. It often fits into an existing chimney. One of the most eco-friendly stoves on the market. Available with a glass door or a frame in steel.

Rais 900 A new format for a stove insert: RAIS 900 embodies streamlined elegance, which underlines the style of your home. There is something discreetly striking and extravagant about it. The view of the flames is phenomenal. The wide flame view on the wall produces a unique and exquisite experience a la widescreen TV...

6,9 kW

Despite the large combustion chamber, it burns in a tranquil, calm and efficient manner. The door is available either in classic design, in steel with a glass pane, or fully in glass with a black frame. Discreet, smart handle.

90-105 m2 79% < 2,0 g/kg 1002-506 mm

RAIS Hand-Picked by an Architect for His Own Home When Norwegian-Canadian architect Todd Saunders, one of the leading architects in the world, was building a home for himself and his family, there was one principle he staunchly followed: There was to be nothing in the house that was not useful or pretty. And so Todd Saunders drew a carefully designed house that his wife, his two daughters and he were happy with. 58

The house is situated in an area of immense natural beauty south of Bergen. It has minimalist interior decoration with few, but carefully hand-picked personal belongings and furniture. And so a RAIS 900 in the middle of the house. Both useful and pretty.

59

IT’S GREEN LOGIC...

... to heat your home with a wood-burning stove. According to a report from the Danish Environmental Protection Agency from 2012, firewood as a source of energy has a CO2 emission of zero. This conclusion is based on the logic that trees throughout their lifetime absorb the same amount of carbon dioxide that is emitted through combustion when they are burned later on. But even though wood as a fuel is an eco-friendly choice in general, it is far from unimportant what type of stove or insert you select for firing. RAIS stoves are among the very best on the market, both in terms of utilising the heat value of the firewood and minimising environmental impact.

60

You will see this when you have a look at the “Data” and see the figures under “Efficiency” and “Particulates” for each stove and insert. The efficiency figure states the percentage of the heat value of the firewood that is utilised by the stove. The particulate figure states the percentage of unburned particles per kilo of firewood that is emitted with the smoke. Both in terms of efficiency and particulates, the figures for RAIS stoves are absolutely in a league of their own.

RAIS CONVECTION GRILLES

All RAIS products are created to achieve a high quality of design. This also applies to our accessories such as convection grilles, which are built-in together with an insert. Inserts represent two types of convection. In part, the convection that is built into the stove and, in part, the convection that is established beneath and above the stove.

RAIS has designed convection boxes with grilles that fit the size of each stove. This creates a nice overall impression when the grilles are in line with the insert. The grilles are available in two designs – with long grooves or with holes. All grilles are equal to the height of one course of bricks, including joints. The grilles are available in black and white.

The convection area of the insert depends on the type of material that is used. This ensures that the stove is air-cooled, thereby preventing overheating of the nearby wall.

AirSystem and AirKit

Air supply through floor

AirKit between floor and stove

A solution developed especially for low-energy and insulated houses which sucks in fresh air from the outside and feeds it directly into the stove to ensure optimal combustion. The air intake itself can be concealed by fitting into the floor or into the wall behind the stove. To facilitate connection to the AirSystem in the stove, we have developed an AirKit system that is adapted to the desired floor or wall installation.

Air supply through rear wall

AirKit between wall and stove

Shield and damper behind stove

The kit consists of a flexible pipe with a clamp, shielding for the firewood compartment, a coupling with a damper and a casing. The coupling with the damper is very important as it prevents cold air from coming into the stove and cooling down the combustion chamber since this can create condensation. The damper on the coupling and air inlet on the stove must be closed when the stove is not in use.
