Exploring the German Capital City Berlin is one of the European capital with the highest concentration of different ethnicities, because its controversial and painful history led to a general feeling of liberty, hope and possibilities that attracts from the fall of the wall artists, entrepreneurs, students and any human category. Besides job opportunities and living amenities, the German capital is a wonderful maze of street and squares, oozing with emotions and stories behind any corner. Imagine to walk all the East Side Gallery, the remaining part of the Berliner Wall on the shore of river Spree, from its beginning, near the bridge at Warschauer Strasse, till the huge Alexanderplatz, the neuralgic heart of East Berlin, where the great military parades of the soviet-allied regime converged to create giant choreographies of impressive and menacing power. The wall is covered with an indefinite serie of works of art, graffiti left by the inhabitants of the eastern part of the city, together with tributes made by real artists who wanted to somehow magnify this place with their performances. From Alexanderplatz, we walk through the old Berlin centre, from the Imperial age, with the stately palaces, the Museuminsel, and the the beautiful Unter Den Linden, a wide and long street that ends right at the Brandenburg Gate, a celebrated monument of the city, symbol of division and at the same time union for the Berliners. Right after crossing the gate, we turn left, and verging the US embassy we are suddenly launched in a strange labyrinth of stone monoliths: it’s the Memorial to the Murdered Jews of Europe, the Holocaust, and while we cross it a sense of anguish overwhelms us, as on purpose the monument transmits just a small part of the feelings lived by who knew that wasn’t going to come back. Following Ebertstrasse, we can see on the ground a long line of tiles with the words “Berliner Mauer”: it is the track of the Wall, where it stood to divide Germany and where it is intended to stay forever as a imperishable memoir of past mistakes. In the end we reach Potsdamerplatz, once covered with ruins, now symbol of Berlin renaissance, with its skyscrapers, modern and functional buildings, shopping malls and new upcoming palaces that fulfill the sight. malls and new upcoming palaces that fulfill the sight.

Esplorando la capitale tedesca. Berlino è una delle capitali europee con la maggior concentrazione di differenti etnie, perché la sua storia controversa e dolorosa ha generato un sentimento di libertà e di possibilità che attrae dalla caduta del muro omonimo artisti, imprenditori, studenti e ogni categoria umana. Oltre alle opportunità lavorative e di vita che offre, la capitale tedesca è un meraviglioso dedalo di vie e di piazze, che trasuda storia ed emozioni a ogni angolo. Immaginate di percorrere tutta la East Side Gallery, la parte ancora integra del muro di Berlino lungo la riva della Spree, dal suo inizio, vicino il ponte di Warschauer Strasse, fino alla maestosa Alexanderplatz, il cuore nevralgico di Berlino Est, dove le grandi parate militari del regime filo sovietico andavano a unirsi per generare coreografie di minacciosa potenza. Il muro è ricoperto da una serie infinita di opere d’arte, graffiti lasciati dagli abitanti della parte orientale della città prima della caduta del muro, intervallati da numerosi tributi di artisti che hanno voluto magnificare questo luogo con le loro performance. Da Alexanderplatz si passa poi nel cuore nevralgico della Berlino imperiale, i palazzi maestosi e imponenti, la Museuminsel, quindi la magnifica Unter Der Linden, via ampia e lunga che finisce proprio in corrispondenza della porta di Brandeburgo, un monumento celeberrimo della città, simbolo al tempo stesso della divisione e dell’unione tra i berlinesi. Appena attraversata la porta, svoltiamo a sinistra, e costeggiando l’ambasciata americana ci troviamo catapultati in uno strano labirinto di monoliti squadrati: è il monumento alla memoria delle vittime della Shoah, l’olocausto, e mentre lo percorriamo un senso di angoscia ci assale, quasi a trasmettere almeno in parte le stesse emozioni vissute da chi sapeva di non far ritorno. Proseguendo per Ebertstrasse, notiamo sul selciato una lunga fila di mattonelle contraddistinte dalla scritta Berliner Mauer: è la traccia del muro di Berlino, lì dove era stato costruito per dividere la Germania e dove rimane il segno, a memoria imperitura degli errori del passato. Arriviamo infine alla controversa e moderna Potsdamerplatz, una volta costellata di rovine, ora simbolo della rinascita di Berlino con i suoi grattacieli, gli edifici moderni e funzionali, i centri commerciali e le nuove costruzioni che ne riempiono la vista.

Stuck between China and Russia, Mongolia is a country to be discovered for the variety of environments, landscapes and places that can be found. Incredibly vast valleys, great lakes, an infinite steppe and some amazing cities and buildings are the destinations of our itinerary, which we decided to walk with our Trezeta Indigo WP, a shoe designed for the adventurous journeys, where frequent trips require maximum comfort and a superior protection for the foot. These shoes are made of excellent suede leather, which gently wraps the foot without stressing it and maintains an excellent comfort even in case of prolonged use over time. The Water Stopper membrane, an exclusive of Trezeta, protects against water infiltrations and external elements, in fact keeping the foot warm and dry in every situation. The EVA wedge is light, stable and shock-absorbing, suitable for the disconnections typical of the paths traveled by nomad caravans and their cattle, while the Vibram® Super Rubber outsole has a particular design that guarantees perfect support and traction on all surfaces, with excellent grip even in wet conditions. We start on our Mongolian tour with a visit, crossing endless steppe expanses and green pastures, in the northern part of the country, and we reach the Buddhist monastery of Amarsbayasgalant, in the province of Selenge, one of the few religious centers untouched by the looting of the past. Its name means “monastery of quiet happiness” and indeed this is the feeling that the series of Chinese-style buildings connect to the traveler, immersed in the green of nature and the mountains covered with forests that surround it. After spending the night in the gher camp (the nomads are heartily welcoming and very attentive) and attended the morning function in the monastery, we head northwest,

and through forests of firs and larches, typical of Siberia, rivers and small nomad camps we reach the sacred volcano Uran Togoo, featuring a completely round crater covered by lush vegetation that makes it completely green. We pass by Moron, a beautiful town located further north, and after buying some local crafts we reach the great sea of Mongolia: the Khuvsgul nuur, which is the largest and deepest lake in all of Asia, where it is possible to take a refreshing bath given the purity of its waters, even if cold. All around nature is a true masterpiece: the lake is surrounded by evergreen coniferous forests, where you can go hiking and meet the animals that live in the wild, including the yaks.

Vastissime vallate, grandi laghi, una steppa infinita e alcune sorprendenti città e costruzioni sono le mete del nostro itinerario, che abbiamo deciso di affrontare con le nostre Trezeta Indigo WP, una scarpa pensata proprio per il viaggio avventuroso, dove gli spostamenti frequenti richiedono il massimo comfort e una protezione superiore per il piede. Queste scarpe sono realizzate in ottima pelle scamosciata, che avvolge delicatamente il piede senza costringerlo e mantiene una comodità eccellente anche in caso di utilizzo prolungato nel tempo. Partiamo nel nostro tour della Mongolia con una visita, attraversando infinite distese steppose e pascoli verdi, nella parte settentrionale del paese, e raggiungiamo il monastero buddista di Amarsbayasgalant, nella provincia del Selenge, uno dei pochi centri religiosi rimasti intatti dai saccheggi del passato. Il suo nome significa “monastero della felicità tranquilla” ed effettivamente è questa la sensazione che la serie di palazzi in stile cinese comunica al viaggiatore, immerso com’è nel verde della natura e delle montagne ricoperte di boschi che lo circondano. Dopo aver pernottato nel campo gher (i nomadi sono ospitali e molto premurosi) e aver assistito alla funzione mattutina nel monastero, ci dirigiamo verso nord ovest, dove tra foreste di abeti e larici, tipiche della Siberia, fiumi e piccoli accampamenti nomadi raggiungiamo il vulcano sacro Uran Togoo, caratterizzato dal cratere completamente tondo e ricoperto da una lussureggiante vegetazione che lo rende completamente verde. Passiamo da Moron, bella cittadina posta ancora più a nord, e dopo aver comprato qualche oggetto di artigianato locale ci dirigiamo verso il grande mare della Mongolia: il Khuvsgul nuur, che è il lago più esteso e profondo di tutta l’Asia, nel quale è possibile fare un bagno rinfrescante data la purezza delle sue acque, anche se fredde. Tutto intorno a natura è padrona: il lago è circondato da foreste di conifere sempreverdi dove si possono fare escursioni e incontrare gli animali che vivono allo stato brado, tra i quali gli yak. 11

Sicily is a land that delights for the richness of products and dishes. An island with unique characteristics, immersed in the Mediterranean Sea that provides a perfect climate to grow and develop some fruits that are famous all over the world. This is the case of citrus fruits, such as lemons, oranges and bergamot, which are the basis of many land and sea recipes of Sicilian cuisine, compotes and jams, and then finish as candied fruit in the incredible pastry of this island. Then, the pistachio of Bronte, an excellence among all the dried fruit, used both in the kitchen to give a touch of crunchiness, for example to risotto, both in the pastry and also to make the delicious traditional ice cream. In Sicilian cuisine then dominate the fish and traditional pasta: every kind of fish is expertly prepared according to traditional recipes, like swordfish rolls in Messina, with olives and tomatoes, anchovies with citrus fruits, or again pescestocco (stockfish) alla Messinese. Also rich in variety is pasta, with the famous Norma (aubergine pasta), pasta with sardines, timbale of anellini alla palermitana, pasta with masculines (a variety of anchovies typical of Sicily) and then again the maltagliati with aggrassatu (veal meat seasoned with onions and caciocavallo). The fried dishes are then famous: the rice arancino (arancina in Palermo) is an unmissable feat, good at all hours, then the sardines “a beccafico” and fried scuma. Finally, a dutiful mention of Sicilian pastry, a must for connoisseurs: cannoli with ricotta cream and candied fruits, almond paste, Sicilian cassata, coffee grated ice known as “granita”, served with whipped cream and typical brioscia (a kind of krapfen), sesame biscuits, Modica chocolate, typical for processing ingredients cold, the “sfincia di San Giuseppe” (another dessert prepared with the delicious ricotta cream), to finish with the typical Christmas dessert, Buccellato, a triumph of figs, almonds, sultanas and chocolate.

Poi, il pistacchio di Bronte, un’eccellenza tra tutta la frutta secca, usato sia nella cucina per dare un tocco di croccantezza per esempio al risotto, sia nella pasticceria e anche per fare il delizioso gelato tradizionale. Nella cucina siciliana dominano poi il pesce e le paste tradizionali: ogni genere di pescato viene sapientemente preparato secondo ricette tradizionali, come gli involtini di pesce spada alla messinese, con olive e pomodoro, le alici agli agrumi, o ancora il pescestocco alla messinese. Ricca di varietà anche la pasta, con la famosa Norma (pasta alle melanzane), la pasta con le sarde, il timballo di anellini alla palermitana, la pasta con i mascolini (una varietà di acciughe tipica della Sicilia) e poi

ancora i maltagliati con l’aggrassatu (girello di vitello condito con cipolle e caciocavallo). I fritti poi sono famosi: l’arancino di riso (arancina in palermitano) è uno sfizio immancabile, buono a tutte le ore, poi le sarde a beccafico e la scuma fritta. Per finire, un doveroso cenno alla pasticceria siciliana, un vero must per gli intenditori: cannoli, pasta di mandorle, cassata siciliana, granita al caffè servita con panna montata e brioscia tipica, biscottini al sesamo, il cioccolato di Modica, tipico per la lavorazione a freddo degli ingredienti, la sfincia di San Giuseppe (altro dolce preparato con la deliziosa crema di ricotta), per finire con il tipico dolce di Natale, il Buccellato, un trionfo di fichi, mandorle, uva sultanina e cioccolato.

2019 SPRING SUMMER TECHNOLOGIES One of the most incredible masterpieces of human engineering and construction of ancient days is the Acropolis of Athens, heart of the economic and political life in the old Greek city, UNESCO heritage site and famous touristic location. Most visitors choose to reach it using cozy shuttles which dump multitudes right next to stairs heading to Parthenon, the mastodon doric temple dedicated to Athena goddess, symbol of ancient Greece. We decided to go there walking and climbing the uphill, strolling through the narrow paths and alleys going to the top. We start our tour from Syntagma, the heart of modern Athens, to reach the Acropolis. It takes more or less half an hour walking to get on the top of the hill, and we are suddenly astonished by the magnificence of buildings, and how they got almost intact to our days. There’s the Asclepius Temple, from where we can see the lower Dionysus Theatre. As we turn right, we’re invested by its majesty the Parthenon, with the imposing doric face, the symbol of antiquity. On its side, we spot the Erechtheion, another sanctuary dedicated to the city protectress goddess. Then, in the western part of the complex, we see other two well-preserved buildings that represents the uniqueness of the Acropolis:

Propylaea, the monumental entrance to the site, never finished, and the little temple of Athena Nike, with its incredible bas-relieves narrating the battles between Greeks and Persians. It’s the only construction in the whole site built in pure ionic style. We go down the hill to visit Dionysus Theatre and finish our walk among the gigantic columns of Zeus Olympus temple, back to the modern part, if we can say that, of the Greek capital.

Uno dei capolavori dell’ingegneria umana e dell’antichità è l’Acropoli di Atene, centro pulsante della vita economica e politica dell’antica città ellenica, patrimonio dell’UNESCO e rinomata meta turistica. Molti scelgono di visitarla usufruendo delle navette che scaricano frotte di turisti proprio di fronte alle scale che conducono al Partenone, il mastodontico tempio dedicato al culto della dea Atena, simbolo di Atene antica. Noi abbiamo deciso di raggiungere questa testimonianza della democrazia greca a piedi, percorrendo i viottoli e le stradine che s’inerpicano sulla collina, ci siamo incamminati dalla famosa

Syntagma per raggiungere l’Acropoli. Dopo circa mezz’ora di buon passo, raggiungiamo la sommità della collina, e siamo conquistati dalla magnificenza delle opere che vi sono costruite, e dal loro stato di conservazione. Vediamo subito il Tempio di Asclepio, dal quale si può vedere il sottostante Teatro di Dioniso. Giriamo a destra e scorgiamo l’imponente facciata dorica del Partenone, il monumento per antonomasia dell’antichità. Sul fianco del tempio, troviamo l’Eretto, un altro santuario dedicato alla dea protettrice della città. Poi, nella parte più a ovest dell’Acropoli, vediamo altri due resti che rendono questo posto unico: i Propilei, ovvero l’ingresso monumentale dell’Acropoli, mai completato, e il tempietto di Athena Nike, che nei suoi affascinanti bassorilievi narra le battaglie tra Greci e Persiani. È l’unica costruzione del complesso in stile completamente ionico. Scendiamo dalla collina per visitare il Teatro di Dioniso e concludiamo la nostra passeggiata tra le colossali colonne colonne del tempio di Zeus Olimpo, ormai giunti nuovamente nella parte più moderna, per così dire, della capitale greca.

Among the many wild and wonderful places that characterize the Italian territory, perhaps one of the most suggestive as scenarios and to walk for the hiker is the network of paths and scenic routes along the slopes of Etna, in Sicily, where it rises the most impressive volcanic massif on the continent. Thanks to the presence of these numerous itineraries, any lover of outdoor activities, can begin an own personal adventure on the Sicilian volcano, and deepen the knowledge by following the different thematic and landscape areas that comprise it. For our first approach with the volcano, we decided to take two different routes that are proposed for their ease to all the less experienced: the first hiking trail traced in Sicily, in 1991, which takes its name from the Monti Neri degli Zappini , starting and arriving from the Monte Vetore plateau, in the southern part of the mountain, at about 1700 meters above sea level. About 4 kilometers long, it is easy to follow and along the track you can find many observation points that open up the view on some wonderful backgrounds, from lava flows to sea views. The other route is the one that reaches the Monti Sartorius, starting from the parking of the Citelli hut at about 1600 meters, and makes its way to one of the most

famous places along the slopes of Etna and a valuable point of study for geologists. You can observe the typical lava formations and also the secondary lava ducts, such as Monte Frumento delle Cocazze. A bit more challenging as a route, especially for the presence of some more bumpy, but within reach of anyone. Only a small beginning to study and enjoy the wonderful opportunities that this lava giant offers us and that we will be able to exploit on other occasions.

Tra mare e cielo sul vulcano più alto d’europa. Tra i tanti luoghi selvaggi e meravigliosi che caratterizzano il territorio italiano, forse il più suggestivo come scenari e tipologia di cammino per l’escursionista è costituito dalla rete di sentieri e percorsi panoramici lungo le pendici dell’Etna, in Sicilia, là dove si erge il più imponente massiccio vulcanico del continente. Proprio grazie alla presenza di questi numerosi itinerari, qualunque amante dell’attività outdoor, dal principiante all’esperto, può intraprendere la sua personale avventura sul vulcano siciliano, e approfondirne la conoscenza seguendo le diverse aree tematiche

e paesaggistiche che lo compongono. Per il nostro primo approccio con il vulcano, abbiamo deciso di percorrere due differenti itinerari: il primo sentiero di trekking tracciato in Sicilia, nel 1991, che prende il nome dai Monti Neri degli Zappini, con partenza e arrivo dal pianoro Monte Vetore, nella zona meridionale del monte, a circa 1700 metri sul livello del mare. Lungo circa 4 chilometri, è facile da percorrere e lungo la pista si possono trovare molti punti di osservazione che spalancano la vista su alcuni sfondi meravigliosi, dalle colate laviche alle viste sul mare. L’altro percorso è invece quello che raggiunge i Monti Sartorius, partendo dal parcheggio del rifugio Citelli a circa 1600 metri, che costituiscono uno dei più famosi luoghi lungo le pendici dell’Etna e un prezioso punto di studio per i geologi. Si possono osservare le tipiche formazioni laviche e anche i condotti secondari della lava, come il Monte Frumento delle Cocazze. Un po’ più impegnativo come percorso, soprattutto per la presenza di alcuni tratti più accidentati, ma alla portata comunque di chiunque. Solo un piccolo inizio per studiare e godere delle splendide opportunità che questo gigante di lava ci offre e che sapremo sfruttare in ulteriori occasioni. 23

Just few meters from the beach and the coast, often on rocky ridges overlooking the marvel of the Tyrrhenian Sea: this is the Liguria Trek, a spectacular example of how respect for the environment, culture and hiking can integrate and magnify one the other. This route runs along the entire length of the Italian region, starting from the eastern tip, in the province of La Spezia, and crossing the whole territory connects with the opposite western extreme, located in Grimaldi, near Ventimiglia, right at the border with France. The particularity of this track, which has been recently codified and traced, dividing it into 29 stages of varying difficulty, but never too demanding even for the average prepared hiker, is that thankful to the temperate climate of Liguria, it is practicable all the year. A real boon for enthusiasts, who can taste the differences in color, for example between spring flowering in the Riviera and the warm autumn colors of the woods and vineyards, as well as the constant and reassuring presence of the sea, a real travel companion along the way. The path that we decide to follow leads us to discover the magic of the Cinque Terre, of course in the initial part of the Liguria Trail: incredible scenarios open at every turn in the path, such as Montemarcello, Lerici, the millennial olive groves of the Val di Magra to finally reach La Spezia, with the beauty of its gulf. A small start of a few dozen kilometers, enough to make us fall in love with the region and to convince us to return, as soon as possible, to resume our journey.

Via del Un sentiero mozzafiato da est a ovest. A poche decine di metri dalla spiaggia e dalla costa, spesso su costoni di roccia sovrastanti la meraviglia del mar Tirreno: questo è il sentiero Liguria, uno spettacolare esempio di come rispetto per l’ambiente, cultura ed escursionismo possano integrarsi e magnificarsi l’un l’altro. Questo percorso si snoda lungo tutta la lunghezza della regione italiana, partendo dalla punta orientale nella provincia di La Spezia, e attraversando tutto il territorio la collega con l’estremo occidentale opposto, situato in corrispondenza di Grimaldi, vicino a Ventimiglia, proprio al confine con la Francia. La particolarità di questo sentiero, che è stato debitamente codificato e tracciato, dividendolo in 29 tappe di difficoltà variabile, ma mai troppo impegnative anche per l’escursionista mediamente preparato, è che grazie al clima temperato di cui gode la Liguria, risulta praticabile tutto l’anno. Una vera e propria manna per gli appassionati, che possono gustare le differenze di colori per esempio tra la fioritura in Riviera della

primavera e i caldi colori autunnali dei boschi e dei vigneti, oltre alla presenza costante e rassicurante del mare, vero e proprio compagno di viaggio lungo tutto il percorso. Il percorso che decidiamo di intraprendere ci porta a scoprire la magia delle Cinque Terre, quindi il tratto iniziale del Sentiero Liguria: scenari incredibili si aprono a ogni curva nel percorso, come Montemarcello, Lerici, gli oliveti millenari della Val di Magra per giungere infine a La Spezia, con la bellezza del suo golfo.
