The OCHBERG SOCIETY FOR TRAUMA JOURNALISM
Auction 2014 | ends 11.08.2014 | OchbergSociety.org
Remembering James Foley The days that have passed since our son James was taken from us in Syria have been the hardest of our lives. The prayers, love and solidarity of people worldwide are helping us through them. We are eternally grateful for that. Jim’s life challenges us all to love and forgive one another, and to make this world a better place. The newly-launched James W. Foley Legacy Fund will preserve James’ memory and promote his passions and ideals among future generations. The Fund’s foremost aim is to build a resource center for families of American hostages as they work to bring their loved ones home. Additionally, the fund also seeks to aid American journalists reporting from connict zones and to promote quality educational opportunities for urban youth. With love and deep gratitude,

In the months after the explosion at a fertilizer plant in West, Texas, media outlets regularly reported the 15 deaths, but often left out the hundreds injured. A state and county health survey eventually counted 262 people who had wounds treated in hospitals, but our team found that the study’s design could miss conditions like post-traumatic stress disorder, depression, traumatic brain injuries and hearing loss. The Dallas Morning News initiated research that found at least 40 people not included in the government’s official count. The Dallas Morning News commends the work of investigative reporter Sue Ambrose that focused on the need for more and better government documentation of non-fatal injuries.
WE’RE COMMITTED TO SUPPORTING JOURNALISTS WHO COVER TRAUMATIC EVENTS AT HOME AND ABROAD.
