Integrated Academics

A rich integrated curriculum and collaborative, hands-on projects in Judaic and General studies, coupled with proven educational tools to better understand and assess individual strengths and challenges, help our students move forward at their pace and in their unique way.

Fourth graders participate in the Ramaz Chidon HaTanakh, an interdisciplinary competition of Bible and Hebrew-language knowledge. Early Childhood students learn about Parashat Noach, animals, and empathy and seamlessly engage in Hebrew conversation with “Bentzi,” our Hebrew-speaking puppet, throughout the school day. Middle School students analyze socio-economic data collaboratively.

Design Thinking

Our children are challenged to solve real-world problems through Design Thinking, which is integrated throughout our curriculum. This begins with learning about empathy— stepping into the shoes of another and understanding the needs of a group of people. Using what they learn, students work collaboratively to define a problem. From there, they design a prototype and test their product or service.

Technology

Technology is embedded in social studies, writing, literacy, math, and science. From first grade through Middle School, students learn Design Thinking incorporating Jewish values, coding and online tools. At left, third graders animate the “identity poems,” or stories, they write about themselves. Below, Middle School students examine river water organisms as part of their study of urban ecology and the tradition of Shemitta.

9

Well-being

Social-emotional health and well-being is based on an understanding that for children to be available to learn and succeed in school, they must first develop the emotional resilience, communication skills, and collaborative will to interact with classmates, peers, teachers, and the world in which they live.

Health

We teach students emotional and spiritual mindfulness, sportsmanship and team-building, having them practice those skills with guidance from teachers. Regular “morning meetings” help younger students identify and understand feelings, empathize with others, embrace differences, navigate relationships, manage frustration, and come together as a Kehillah. In Middle School, social-emotional and advisory programs support students as they navigate the transition from childhood to young adulthood.

Shlomit

Gilad Erdan

“As an Israeli family, we are impressed and moved by the school’s support for Israel and its commitment to Hebrew as a living language, instilling meaning and substance to our children's Jewish identity.”

“We are fortunate to have found in Ramaz a Modern Orthodox school that emphasizes a joyful approach to Judaism coupled with a top-notch academic program. Our children love their teachers, learn so much each day, and can’t stop singing the songs they learn!”

“Our experiences as Ramaz students, and long-time Upper West Siders, gave us the utmost confidence our children would be equally embraced by this truly special community, regardless of where they live. We participate in school activities and events, and continue to meet and make new friends.”

“Having children who come from a home with Sephardi and Ashkenazi roots, we appreciate the diverse Jewish traditions and forms of prayers that are celebrated and taught. We are also thrilled that we are members of a community with different backgrounds and cultures.”
