The New Sun Who we are What we stand for
SUN | VISUAL STANDARDS GUIDE
Who We Are “If you want to know where the computer industry is going, ask Sun.” — by Goff Leslie
Sun was the leading company in designing and manufacturing Internet server computers, high-end workstations for engineering applications, data storage products, and providing software and cloud services. Under the leadership of the co-founder, Scott McNealey, the company proposed that “The network is the computer.” Sun’s Java programming language, offered for use as a cross-platform industry standard, has been widely adopted for applications that run across the Internet. The new Sun aims to enable the interconnectivity of every device for the convenience of people’s lives.

What We Stand For Sun provides borderless interconnectivity with low cost and risk, and oers optimized integration solutions to lead companies into the age of the Internet of Things. From Sun’s perspective, no computers are isolated. Sun’s technology works to make connections between computers possible, stable and reliable, regardless of their sizes, brands and systems. The open-sourced network system provides borderless interconnectivity with low cost and risk, and offers optimized integration solutions to take companies into the age of the Internet of Things.

The Face of Our Brand LINK—CONNECT EVERYTHING TOGETHER The new look of Sun is the one that incorporates its core values into one singular mark. It shows that everything can be linked together. We hope the new logo and identity can help the audience easily catch the message that we want to express. In this version, “S” is made up with two identical shapes. They both correspond to the keyword link and represent the “S” in a simple and elegant way. For the logotype, all the angles and lines are the same with the symbol, but the weight of the stroke is a little heavier.
Customize the design the typeface for Sun, do no attempt to replicate existing typefaces.

Logo Anatomy The logo consists of two parts which are the symbol and logotype. For the symbol, two separate but central symmetric graphics represent the letter “U” and “N” in “Sun”. Linking these two letters together forms the letter “S”. Overall, it looks like the letter “S”, and resembles an icon “link”.

Here is an overview of how the full signature is constructed and proportioned. None of the proportioned shown here should be changed with. This lock-up should always be used in this way and no others.

Color Palette Blue is the logo’s main colors. The logo should never be colored in any other ones. Blue is associated with open spaces, freedom, intuition, imagination, expansiveness, inspiration, and sensitivity. Blue also represents depth, trust, loyalty, sincerity, wisdom, confidence, stability, faith, heaven, and intelligence.

Alternate Versions If for any reasons the full-color logo can’t be used or needs to be overlaid onto a background other than white, the logo should be turned into black or white. This color should never be anything other than the full black or full white. The choice between the two will depend on which one will maintain a good and clear contrast.

Logo Uses Not all situations require the full signature. At small sizes the full signature icon might in fact lose recognizability. Full Signature When the logo is to be used at sizes smaller than one inch tall, the wordmark should be used on its own. Depending on the legibility and placement, it is recommended to use the icon, especially when a more abstract representation of the brand is preferred. At any larger size, all three options are acceptable although the full signature should remain the first choice.
