With a focus on luxury, convenience, and minimal upkeep, these custom structures were built to afford residents more time to relish the exceptional recreational offerings synonymous with life along the Missouri River rather than spending it on daily maintenance tasks.
Designed to focus on durability, efficiency, security, and comfortable living, the main home offers a low-maintenance lifestyle, enabling owners to dedicate more time to fishing and recreation rather than property upkeep. The thoughtful development process commenced before construction, with owners taking the time to familiarize themselves with the property. The home provides an array of seating areas for enjoying the Missouri River’s proximity and observing wildlife while savoring morning coffee or evening wine. During the summer, a plethora of activities await in close reach to the Missouri River Fishing Retreat, including fishing, biking, and riverside strolls along the Missouri River. The region’s numerous lakes also beckon for exploration and recreation. Beyond the Missouri, anglers can explore the nearby Dearborn River and the lakes region, including Holter, Hauser, and Canyon Ferry Lakes. A lovely day trip to the Madison, Boulder, Smith, Beaverhead, Big Hole, Jefferson, and Ruby Rivers, renowned for their exceptional fishing opportunities, can offer great rewards as anglers seek additional angling opportunities within close reach of the property. As autumn arrives, easily accessible public lands offer hunting prospects for deer, elk,
upland birds, and more.
While winter often extends into spring, blanketing the mountains in fresh powder, it introduces a new array of activities. Winter enthusiasts can traverse mountain trails via snowmobiles or cross-country skis, with Showdown Mountain, just under two hours from the property, providing uncrowded slopes and groomed snowmobile trails. For downhill enthusiasts, Showdown boasts some of the state’s finest skiing and snowboarding experiences. Nearby, the Great Divide Ski Area offers family-friendly skiing, including weekend night skiing, allowing visitors to glide beneath the stars and Montana’s vast skies. The ski season typically spans from Thanksgiving through early April, promising ample opportunities for winter adventure.
The Missouri River, especially the section from below Holter Dam to Cascade, is celebrated in the fly fishing realm, as highlighted in several guidebooks. Although merely 48 miles of the river’s entirety, this stretch is essential for any serious fly angler, with its quality often compared to the best fly fishing experiences globally. The river resembles a large, flatsurfaced spring creek, differing from the typical riffle-run-pool habitats of other Montana rivers such as Rock Creek or the Gallatin. It supports massive insect hatches and hosts large populations of rainbow and brown trout, frequently surpassing 18 inches and weighing over three pounds. Consistent fishing opportunities are available year-round, with productive winter seasons and fewer crowds. Known affectionately as the “Big Mo,” this river segment stands out for its trophy-sized trout and is recognized as a premier location for anglers seeking remarkable catches in Montana.
Adding to its allure, the Missouri River Fishing Retreat, with approximately 160± feet of river frontage, is situated on one of the most famed trout waters in the US. The area boasts a productive bar across the river and accessible pools for both upstream and downstream wading. Comprehensive fishing and guide services are readily available in nearby locations such as Craig, the canyon at Mountain Palace, Prewitt Creek, and Cascade. The Missouri River is known for its
excellent hatches and premier dry fly fishing opportunities, producing very large browns and rainbows. As a tailwater, it maintains steady flows throughout the year, making it an insect-producing powerhouse. Midges hatch year-round, complemented by seasonal hatches of caddis from May to October, blue-winged olives during spring and fall, pale morning duns in June and July, and the world-renowned trico hatch from July through September.
Missouri River Fishing Retreat sits on the east side of the Missouri River, between Craig and Cascade, Montana. Craig has evolved over the years into one of the West’s classic fly fishing communities. The town is unincorporated, and 40 or so folks may live there year-round. There are three fly shops, two restaurants, and a bar. The closest grocery store is in Cascade, approximately 11 miles to the north of the property. The town of Craig is one of the best places to spend time if you want to immerse yourself in Montana’s flyfishing culture.

One of the area’s three major reservoirs, Holter Lake, is 21± miles to the south. It is formed along narrow canyons with breathtakingly high cliffs. Holter is home to the majestic “Gates of the Mountains,” aptly named by the Lewis and Clark Expedition. In the early 1800s, their Corps of Discovery passed along the property as the explorers carried out President Thomas Jefferson’s mandate to explore the Missouri River and its land in search of an inland passage to the Pacific.
Helena, population 33,525, is approximately 53 miles south of the property. Great Falls, population 58,627, is about 38± miles to the north. Each city has a commercial airport. These two Montana cities provide a variety of amenities, including restaurants, shopping, and entertainment. First-class medical care is available at Saint Peter’s Health in Helena or Great Falls Clinic Hospital and Benefis Health System in Great Falls. Helena, the state capital, originated as a gold rush town with the first claim staked in what is still known as “Last Chance Gulch” and, in many ways, is still the heart of the city. Helena honors its heritage with numerous historic buildings, including the original Governor’s Mansion constructed in 1888, the State Capital Building, and Saint Helena Cathedral. In 1888, 50 millionaires made Helena their home, and Last Chance Gulch produced an estimated $3.6 billion (in today’s dollars) in gold over 20 years. Today, Helena provides yearround indoor and outdoor activities. The city is also home to Carroll College and UM-Helena College of Technology.
Great Falls is the third largest city in Montana and is a major center for agriculture and other commerce. The area around the city was well documented and held great significance during the Lewis and Clark Expedition. Located on the Missouri River and among five falls, the explorers were forced to spend nearly a month portaging around the falls in June of 1805. Much of the Missouri River in this area remains as it was when Lewis and Clark first viewed it over 200 years ago. Today, the private Meadowlark Country Club sits at the confluence of the Sun and Missouri Rivers. The Club offers an 18-hole
golf course, a large main clubhouse, three indoor and four outdoor tennis courts, a swimming pool, a formal dining room, and a more casual Grille Room. Great Falls is home to Malmstrom Air Force Base, the University of Great Falls, and MSU College of Technology – Great Falls. Major events each year include the C.M. Russell Auction of Original Western Art, the Lewis and Clark Festival, and the PRCA Montana Circuit Finals Rodeo.
