BREEDING CATTLE WE BELIEVE IN
Focusing on the
Cow Family
BRC THOUGHTS
The B.R.C. cow herd basis is the foundation for our future. Our philosophy is to breed to cow families for more consistency, better performance, and
Simply Good Cattle.
+Miss V8 382/7’s cow family is nothing short of God’s providence and others generosity. In fact, several of our cow family origin stories start out like that. Before Brandon and Rachel married, Brandon partnered with Jeff Smith on some embryos. 382 was one of those calves. For our wedding present, Mr. Smith gave us his half. 382 came with us from Mississippi, and joined our herd. She was the 2013 Houston Grand Champion Female, and is the mother of the world famous Miss V8 21/8 - Boom Shaka Laka. She is also the maternal grand dam of our exciting new herd sire “Dutton.” +JDH Lady Jennessa Manso 347/2 joined our program as a 16 year old cow. We owned her daughter, Lady Pitman, and loved her. When we purchased a group of cattle from the JDH Locke Division in our first year of marriage, we specifically asked if Jenessa was available because we loved her daughter so much. John said she was old, but yes he’d sell her to us. We gave her to Mollie for good luck. She produced Miss V8 709/7, a Reserve Houston Grand Champion and Miss V8 694/7, Reserve National Grand Champion. The Jenessa cow family works with everything.
+Miss V8 98/6 is a cornerstone cow family that represents the anchor of our polled program. Though now deceased, she is arguably the most influential polled female in the history of the Brahman breed. The 98/6 cow family blends two of the original cow families started by Howard Parker in 1944: Ann Forgason 5 (ABBA 4320) and Carmencita 116. +Miss V8 98/6 produced the highly acclaimed donor daughter +Miss V8 797/6 (S), one of our top donors today. The 98 cow family also produced the 2010 National Champion Female (Miss V8 100/7) and Noble (Mr. V8 458/7).
Throughout my life, my grandparents have done nothing but bless me time and time again. One of these original blessings was back in 1979, when my grandparents Sloan and Mollie Williams gave me their best heifer of the calf crop to start my herd. This cow family can be traced back to the foundation Brahman herdbook, originating with the foundation female Betty Lou 44 and her daughter Miss V8 9th. Famous sons and daughters include Mr. V8 666/3, Miss V8 666/3, Miss V8 725/3 (“Amber”). Ultimately this cow family produced +Mr. V8 777/4 (Powerstroke), +Mr. V8 287/5 (Superstroke), and +Mr. V8 380/6.

The BRC Heifer Sales Process Selling our 5 favorites from our spring 2019 group
October 21-22, 2019 at www.dvauction.com Bids close at 6:00 p.m. CST October 22nd
Private treaty heifer sales of approximately 50 spring born heifers begin
October 25th at the new BRC Sale Pens. These heifers will be priced individually starting at $5,000 USD.
Marketing innovation and fairness have always been a key priority for the Cutrer’s. Brahman females are in high demand. A few years ago, we developed a marketing method that we feel best serves our clients and their needs. This system is a combination of an online auction+private treaty sale. What we consider to be the top five heifers of the sale group are offered in a public auction, and the remaining 95% of the heifers are sold private treaty at the ranch. When you come to the ranch we’ll spend time with you, listen to your needs, and help you find the best bull or heifer for your program and goals.
Be The First to Get In Our Private Treaty Pens...
As a way to thank those bidders who bid in our online sale, but may not have been successful in getting something, we offer these friends an opportunity to be in our “BRC VIP Bidders Group.” This group has a pre-sale opportunity to select from the private treaty group. The BRC Pre-Sale bidders group is invited to come on Thursday, October 24th to preview and purchase heifers from our private treaty pens. On Friday, October 25th, private treaty sales open at 4:00 p.m. after the conclusion of our workshop. You do not have to attend the workshop to come look at or purchase heifers. Each heifer will be listed with an individual price and is available first come, first served. Payment is required to confirm a purchase. International customers must deposit 50% of the sales price by noon on October 23rd to confirm an order and enter quarantine.
From October 26th and later, heifers are available for purchase at the ranch. Email rachel@brcutrer.com to setup a time to visit.

-FUNNY STORY HOW WE CAME TO ACQUIRE BLAIR -
Don’t Tell Your Wife You Like A Heifer Unless.. -KEY FEATURES ABOUT MISS V8 87/9 -
So it all started at Houston in 2015.... Brandon was working the weights and measures line for the ABBA. He was a member of the show committee. During a break, he told Rachel: “Man, Stuart has a really nice red heifer, I really like her.” That was it, and Brandon went back about his business.
Well, when you have a wife who loves cattle as much as you do, sometimes this is a good or a bad thing. Rachel went straight over to the Watkins Cattle stalls. She, Brandon and Stuart are best of friends. She asked Stuart to sell her half interest and she could surprise Brandon. Stuart made us promise that the first flush we would breed her to 380. The deal was made!
Best of Brahman Friends!
When Blair showed the next day or so, she was named Reserve Division Champion. Brandon was thrilled and totally suprised! However, from here on out, anytime he tells Rachel he likes a heifer, he usually adds the statement, “That doesn’t mean I want you to go out and try to buy her behind my back....lol!”
Miss WCC Blair 77/4
We like to dabble in Red Brahmans, and fell in love with Blair when she was part of the Watkins Cattle Company show string. In Brahman breeding philosopies, WCC and BRC share a near identical focus. We like moderate, powerful, thick cattle that look good, and are functional. We believe that Watkins Cattle Company is one of the premier red programs in the world, and sought out to be partners with them on a great red female. Blair is actually a 50% red female, so this pedigree gives her versatility to work in both red and grey programs.

NEW TOOL FOR 2019
Our Bulls Stand On Their Own Four Feet
We’ve seen it time and time again – cattle buyers get seduced by a good-looking cattle pedicure and they end up…well…shooting themselves in the foot. As you know, great structure is paramount. Bulls with strong foot structure travel and move better; they also live longer, too. That’s why Brandon Cutrer never trims the feet of our sale bulls. We’re proud to show off our bulls – and their superior foot structure – au naturel. Prettying up a bull’s feet might look nice at the time of sale, but trimmed and polished hooves could be masking structural problems that you’ll uncover when you get home. Our advice? Steer clear of the fancy footwork in order to find the best feet. Trust B.R. Cutrer, Inc. to market bulls that meet our strictest standards of quality. If we wouldn’t breed them in our herd, we won’t sell them to you.

Why do we care so much about
Education
Birth Weights? by Rachel Cutrer We believe that the Brahman bull is the #1 bull to use in crossbreeding systems throughout the south, where warm climates and harsh conditions prevail. Using a Brahman bull on any other breed maximizes hybrid vigor, giving you more pounds at weaning and yearling. However, it also means more pounds at birth. By understanding this, producers can reduce their incidence of calving trouble by using bulls with lower actual birth weights and lower BW EPDs, when they buy bulls from breeders who obsess about reporting accurate actual birth weights, like we do.
Dr. Jim Sanders, professor of the Texas A&M University Department of Animal Science discusses this topic at length in his “Breeds” class, which several members of our family took. Data from the McGregor Station shows the difference in birth weights using different breeds. We find this information to be very useful in Bull can be used to educating new breeders about how to use Brahman breed to Angus or bulls in a crossbreeding program.

Hereford cows
Honestly, we don’t worry too much about birth weight when breeding our own pasture cows. Here’s why...If you look at those same charts, you notice that the calves with a Brahman dam always have the lowest birth weight. That’s because there’s something in those amazing Brahman cows DNA that actually makes them reduce the birth weights. So, in managing birth weights, if you have a bull that’s a little higher, don’t stress - all that means is that he just needs to go on registered or purebred Brahman cows, or even cows with at least half Brahman blood. If you look at our top herd bulls at our ranch, you’ll notice some of them have birth weights even in the 90s. We don’t stress because those super herd bulls are going on 100% registered Brahman cows. The Brahman cow

will take care of it. Here are our recommendations for breeding Brahman bulls: • We do not recommend breeding any Brahman bull to British heifers, no matter what the birth weight. • We feel comfortable recommending a bull with an actual birth weight of 79 pounds or less are suitable to use on British cows. We also take into consideration the BW EPD. Data published with permission from Texas A&M University, Dr. Jim Sanders

BRC Bulls: Gentle and Ready to Go To Work. HERD HEALTH AND BULL DEVELOPMENT Birth- Within 24 hours of birth, every calf has a birth weight collected, and is ear tagged with Sire, Dam, and individual ID number. 3-4 Months old – Bulls are dehorned if needed, vaccinated with Calvary 9 focusing on Blackleg, and dewormed using Valbazen.
Harley Wade and Lot 8 in the picture pen.
By Brandon Cutrer
12 Months – Sale time Bulls are moved to Purina Forage Extender Limiter #3 that restricts feed intake, and turned out on to Bermuda grass or oat pasture (depending on time of year) to condition the bulls for service. Deworming protocol is maintained every 90 days. Breeding soundness exams are given starting at 18 months.
FIRST BREEDING SEASON
6-8 Months old – Bulls are branded, weaning weights collected, assigned a disposition score, vaccinated again with Calvary 9, and given Vista Once as a respiratory vaccination. Once weaned, bulls are swapped from Purina Accuration LW that was used as creep feed to Purina’s Blue Impact starter ration. The bulls are fed this high roughage ration for two weeks to combat the stress of weaning. Culling decisions may be made at this time.
These bulls will range in age from 18 to 22 months old. They have been developed in a way as to handle pasture conditions better than most bulls. However, we ask that you take special consideration because they still have some teeth to loose and some growing to do. Until they are full 2 year old bulls, a light load of no more than 15 cows is recommended. Once they hit 24 months, you can add more cows to his breeding herd.
8-12 Months old- Bulls enter the BRC Bull Development Program and are developed on Purina Forage Extender Limiter #2 until 12 months. During this time bulls are dewormed. During this period bulls are continually evaluated on quality, soundness, and disposition. At 12 months yearling weights are collected, disposition scores assigned again, and ultrasound data collected. Culling decisions may be made at this time.
The American Brahman Breeders Association recently underwent a change in genetic evaluation providers. As a result, the numbers are somewhat different than what many of our customers may have been used to in the past. We have included the current breed average in every lot to help you adjust your comparison parameters to these new values.

She is moderate framed, structurally sound cow that has easily maintained her body condition and hoof integrity, through out her life. • 387/6 is sired by +JDH Charley’s Jazz 946/1 and out of Miss V8 402/5, who lived to be 17 years old. As you examine the pedigree of 402/5 you will notice that she is sired by (+) JDH Copano Manso and that she is a direct daughter of +Miss V8 617/2 who held the #1 spot in ABBA’s Register of Renown for many years. 617/2 is currently #2 behind CT 8/9. • 387/6’s three-generation pedigree includes 10 Register of Renown animals, five of which are Vangaurd sires and dams. • She has produced 28 calves in her lifetime both naturally and through embryo transfer. Of those, there are 3 daughters that have gone on to be influential ET donor females and 4 sons that have become herdsires for other progressive Brahman breeders, including Triple H Cattle, Circle F Farms, Asa Lee, and Myra Neal Morrison.
