Welcome! W
e are proud to welcome you to Perks Ranch for the second annual Fall Celebration Sale! It has been a fun and exciting year here at Perks. January started with a boom, as Hometown was named National Champion Bull in Denver, and Right Track was Calf Champion and sold for $101,500 in the Mile High Night Sale. Thank You to everyone who made this possible. We were overwhelmed! This sale offering will feature some of Hometown’s first progeny and Right Track’s first service. February brought on calving, and with the extended winter and shortness of hay it was challenging, but we made it through it and are excited about our calf crop. The summer in northern Illinois has been great, putting up record amounts of hay and providing excellent weather for calves to grow. As we get this catalog ready to go out, we think about this business and what makes it happen, which is the quality of the great people in it. Our friendships that we make in this business are some of our truest that will ever be made, and we truly appreciate that. We want to thank all our previous customers for their friendship and support to our program. We have again teamed up with C&L Hereford Ranch, River Ridge Ranch and Rustic Oaks Farm as well as a new consignor, JJB Cattle Company, to put this event on. We thank them for their hard work and quality of cattle from their programs. The quality of this offering runs deep, with something here for everyone. Whether you are looking for a herd bull, show heifer or steer, donor cow or replacement female, we feel you can find it here! Something new and exciting this year is the Pick of the 2013 Spring Bull Calves. This will be a deep set to sort through! We encourage you to call, e-mail or stop by the ranch anytime. Please check our website at www.perksranch.com for continuous updates, and videos will be available early October. If you need assistance with travel or hotel, please let us know; we’d be glad to help. We hope you can join us Friday, October 11th to view the cattle and socialize and then again on Saturday, October 12th for the sale. Good cattle + Good people = Good TIMES! Doug and Mary Perks

We feel Dynasty is a logical choice for this year’s Lot 1. At a very young age, he has already proven himself in the show ring, being named Champion Bull at the Southeastern Regional, Reserve Division at the Junior National Hereford Expo and Division Champion at the Illinois State Fair.
JWR 369 Trisha 181R Dam of Lot 1
Dynasty is straight in his lines with tons of depth of body, and he moves like a cat. His dam, Trisha, was the high selling cow in the JWR dispersal and is now deceased but continues to make an impact on the breed. Dynasty is exactly what we were hoping for when we mated her to TNT. Study the numbers. Dynasty is very balanced from end to end, rating very well in all of them. He will definitely be a tool here at Perks in the future. We plan on promoting him at some shows this fall and in Denver. Offered with Dry Creek Farms. • Selling 1/2 interest, 1/2 possession after his show career. Pick of the 2013 Spring Bull Calf Crop
For the first time in ranch history, we are offering a unique opportunity to be the first one to make a selection from our 2013 spring bull calf crop! Our deepest set of bulls to date, these future herd sires are genetically stacked and sired by today’s industry leaders, such as Hometown, Bailout, 92W, 506U, Trust, Mr Hereford and 719T. Several will be flush mates to heifers selling in this sale…out of our foundation donors like 102W, 33W and 47W, plus all the natural calves. No one is off limits, as this pick will include our 2014 Denver Pen Bulls and any of the bulls we show On the Hill in Denver. Right Track would have been right there in this group a year ago! Bulls will be available anytime between now and sale day. We would like for your selection to be made within 30 days after the sale, by Tuesday, November 12th. We promise it will be worth the trip and time to sort through this incredible set of bulls. So far many visitors to the ranch have said that this is the best set of bulls they’ve seen anywhere!
• Selling 1/2 interest, 1/2 possession.
Perks 144U Right Track 2040
Right Track is an example of the quality that will be offered in the Pick of the 2013 Spring Bull Calves at Perks Ranch. He sold in Denver this year for $101,500. A special “Thank You” to Bob Rhyne, the Eudy family, the Braun family and all The Breeders on the Right Track!
Our 2013 bull calf crop includes sons of these popular sires…

What a heifer calf to start off our ET lots! This heifer is just a sweetheart. She is extremely deep and bold sprung, thick in her makeup, yet elegant in her design and cool enough fronted. Her attractive phenotype, foundation pedigree and well balanced EPDs make her a complete package female that we are excited about and want to be a part of. Her flush mate brothers will be our Pen Bulls in Denver this year. • Selling 1/2 interest.

Lots 4-7 are full sibs to Perks 144U She’s A Darling 2004, our high selling heifer calf in last year’s sale, with half interest going to S&J Ranch and Frank Graceffa. She’s A Darling went on to win her division in Louisville last year, and we think these four have that potential as well. These heifers have that foundation pedigree of Bailout x 33W. The Bailouts are proving themselves to be great cows, and our 33W donor, who is an About Time daughter, is making a name for herself fast. 33W is also the dam of Lots 8 and 9 and the granddam of Lot 14.
These four lots will be split into pairs on sale day and sold as Choice Lots. You take one and we keep one. We wouldn’t mind keeping any of these heifers, so we’ll let you be the judge!

Adjust your sights here, as these are only Aprils, but boy, are they good! A little different in their types…Lot 8 is extremely cool made and fresh in her condition; Lot 9, neither the weather nor she wanted to cooperate on picture day, but she is very thick, wide topped, lots of middle and lots of cow potential here. The dam of Lots 10 and 11 was a past donor here at Perks and one of the high selling females in last year’s sale, going to Leonard Polled Herefords. Their full sister also sold last year to the Braun family, who showed her to the top several times. Lots 10 and 11 are loaded with power and mass but put it in a cool package. Just look at their pictures—they are that good!

This is the only heifer in the sale sired by the popular 88X, and she is out of a really nice Harland two year old. You talk about one that is long bodied…here she is, with extra style and an awesome look. Lots of future in this heifer, as she just keeps getting better and better! Remember, 88X semen is off the market, so here’s an opportunity to buy a daughter in the flesh.

Lot 13’s dam was our pick out of the Star Lake dispersal, as we are really impressed with the Carla cow family. This is a Tymeless heifer out of 53W with a lot of depth, good in her lines, and an awesome neck and front third. She just grows on a person’s eye. Buy her to show, and then turn her out and watch her become a beautiful cow!
Lots 14, 15, 16 and 17A are daughters of 1056, a bull we used on heifers last year. We are very excited about his progeny.

Lot 14 is a cool made heifer that is loaded with power. She has the style and overall makeup to be a big time contender and very well could be the best show heifer prospect in the entire offering. Check out her grandmother, our popular donor 33W, who is also the dam of Lots 4–9.

Lot 17 was a member of our Reserve Champion Pen of 3 Heifers in Denver in 2012. She is now a two-year old in production and doing well. The only reason she is in the sale is because we wanted to offer a Bailout daughter in production to show off the udder quality and milk flow that they have. You’ll also love her big, goggle eyes and her dark red color. Her dam is selling as Lot 18 and full sister as Lot 18A. This is a neat family package and a unique opportunity that doesn’t come around often. • Bred AI June 30, 2013 to RST Time’s A Wastin’ 0124, then pasture exposed July 15 to August 14, 2013 to TH T90 719T Victor 92W.

Here is the donor cow kind. Lot 18 is exceptional to look at with her dark red color and red eyes. Along with her look, she has excellent udder quality, exceptional EPDs and is just flat good, being a top producer each year. Here is another cow that is worthy of the donor pen. Look back at Lots 14, 15, 16 and 17A. We talked about their sire, 1056, as a bull we used on heifers last year. Lot 20 is his dam and the reason we used that bull. She is straight Oschner bred and will outcross well to a lot of different bulls. Luckily we have her last year’s heifer that will be retained as a replacement to her. Her average progeny ratios on four calves with a 360day calving interval are 97 BW, 102 WW and 108 YW. Again, another one to buy and look like a hero! • Pasture exposed May 4 to August 5, 2013 to TH 75J 243R Bailout 144U ET. Checked SAFE with a HEIFER CALF.

This cow will be a favorite sale day. She is the dam of Hot Luv, whom we sold to Spencer Miller in 2011. Spencer had great success with Hot Luv, including OYE Champion and class winner in Denver and Fort Worth. This might be the most exciting mating in our program’s 50-plus years of being in the Hereford breed! We could go on and on about Picabo and Preslee; however, we encourage you to come see them for yourself. These flush sisters sired by Online and out of “Penny” are the culmination of our pursuit to breed Hereford cattle that are sound, functional and, most importantly, that will excel in the show ring. We’re confident that their style and structure will only add to the legacy of their genetics.

12A is a bonafide great one! Strong statement, but if you study this family, you will agree that these females are the kind breeders build their reputations on. The family starts out with the foundation being the 496 Cooper cow, who is the granddam of 12A. When you see what 202U has accomplished in her short time with 12A and 4X, as well as what 4X has done, you will agree that this family is tremendous. 12A can be someone’s cornerstone piece when her show career ends.

860 was our pick of the weaned heifer calves in 2010 during our first trip to Hoven, South Dakota, after we had the chance to see the famous Rausch herd. We selected her because of the exceptional daughters that her sire, Newsline, had in their herd. 860 is a fault-free cow that has many productive years ahead of her. • Bred May 16, 2013 to Perks 144U Right Track 2040.
16T is an own daughter of 150L, the full sister to Remitall Olympian. This Prince Victor 71I daughter has done an outstanding job for us and leaves a great M326 twoyear old in our herd. Nice EPD spread and good performance. This Dam of Distinction will have her genetics present in our herd for years to come. • Pasture exposed June 17 to September 15, 2013 to C&L Advantage M326 22S ET.

When evaluating our 2013 calf crop, we knew that we needed to get this heifer in front of a bigger audience, and the Perks Ranch Sale would be the ideal spot. Intesity is a full sister to the only two-time NWSS Supreme Champion, Shock & Awe. She has full and half sisters in donor programs around the country and lives up to this expectation. Intesity is a horned heifer that has a unique blend of style and substance. This girl is stout and will show with the best of them! Heifers like this don't come around every day and are hard to part with, but this one deserves to shine in the spotlight. JJB reserves the right to one flush to be done at our expense and the buyer’s convenience.
