MANAGERS NOTES GREGORY VIGNAL

Welcome to the Hummel Training Centre for our game against Glasgow City. Last weekend we travelled to Prenton Park to play Liverpool Women. Although we lost the game it was a great opportunity for us to go and play a big English team with full-time players. The girls learned a lot about the different aspects, tactically, technically, physically and mentally because this is what you need if you want to play at a high level. We need to close the gap and I hope we can do this is one or two years time. We have got the right people at the club and the right structure so I am really positive. Looking ahead to today’s game, we know it will be another tough match against Glasgow City who play at Champions League level. They have a really strong squad and really good international players but we have prepare well for this game.

Thank you for your continued support.

Gregory

MATCH REPORT LIVERPOOL WFC 8 RANGERS WFC 1 31 August 2019 | Prenton Park | Friendly

RANGERS Women travelled to Liverpool last weekend to take on the FA Women’s Super League side in a friendly match. It was a tough test for Gregory Vignal’s side as they lost 8-1 to Liverpool Women at Prenton Park. The hosts took an early lead on the second minute as Jade Bailey played in Rinsola Babajide who slotted low past Khym Ramsay. Rangers had an opportunity from a set piece after good work from Jade Gallon saw her fouled on the edge of the area. Chelsie Watson drilled an effort towards goal but it was saved by Fran Kitching. Liverpool came close to adding a second as the ball was given away in a dangerous area and picked up by Ashley Hodson but she drove her effort wide of the Rangers goal. The English FA Women’s Super League side doubled their lead on the 12th minute as Courtney Sweetman-Kirk found space on the right before delivering a dangerous cross across the face of goal which was turned into the back of the net by Rinsola Babajide.

It was a really difficult game for us obviously Liverpool are a really really good side you can see that with the intensity and the movement. Clare Gemmell

On the 18th minute Rangers were forced into a substitution as goalkeeper Khym Ramsay picked up an injury and had to be replaced. With no sub goalkeeper on the bench, Ellis Dalgliesh took up position between the sticks. Lauren Gallon came off the bench to slot in at right-back. There was a third for Liverpool on the 21st minute as Rinsola Babajide linked up with Courtney Sweetman-Kirk who scored past Dalgliesh. The Liverpool number nine was denied a second of the game shortly after as Dalgliesh done well to stop an effort from close range.

On the 28th minute Liverpool sub goalkeeper Anke Preuss took to the field in Rangers’ goal as Dalgliesh went to left-back and Lauren Gallon was subbed. Liverpool added a fourth shorty after as Courtney-Sweetman Kirk headed home a cross. Rangers had a goal back on the 33rd minute as captain Clare Gemmell played in Hannah Robertson who done well to find space and get her shot away from inside the box to beat the keeper. Sweetman-Kirk almost had her hat-trick before the break as she was through one-on-one but Preuss done well to block her effort. Gregory Vignal made three changes at half-time with Terri Donnelly, Jade Gallon and Gill Inglis replaced by Laura McCartney, Jayne Cameron and Shelley Campbell. There was a change in goal as well at the break as the two Liverpool keepers Fran Kitching and Anke Preuss switched with Kitching taking up position in the Rangers goal. Liverpool had a fifth on the 54th minute as Kirsty Linnett beat Fran Kitching. There was a sixth for the home side 10 minutes later as Linnett saw her shot well blocked by Fran Kitching but the rebound fell to Rinsola Babajide who fired into the back of the net. Liverpool were awarded a penalty on the 71st minute which Courtney Sweetman-Kirk stepped up to take. Her attempt was blocked by Kitching but she made no mistake in scoring from the round. The hosts got their eighth as Babajide got her fourth of the afternoon with a long range strike curled into the top corner with three minutes of the match remaining. Rangers: Ramsay, Inglis, Watson, Dalgliesh, Hay, Napier, J. Gallon, Donnelly, Gemmell, O’Hara, H. Robertson. Subs: L. Gallon, Honeyman, McCartney, Campbell, Cameron.

MATCH REPORT FORFAR FARMINGTON 0 RANGERS WFC 4 25 August 2019 | Station Park | SWPL

RANGERS Women progressed to the quarter-finals of the SSE Scottish Cup after a 4-0 win away to Forfar Farmington. Goals from Holly Napier, Hannah Robertson, Shelley Campbell and an own goal saw the women progress to the next round. Rangers started strong at Station Park and had a chance after just two minutes as Chelsie Watson played the ball forward to Hannah Robertson who beat the defenders for pace but her shot was saved by the feet of Fiona McNicoll in the Forfar goal. The early pressure paid off and Rangers were ahead after only eight minutes as Chantelle Brown cut the ball back to Holly Napier who had space and fired a terrific shot from 25-yards to beat Fiona McNicoll. Gregory Vignal’s side were two ahead just a few minutes later as Brogan Hay’s corner was diverted into the net by a Forfar player. In a bright start for the Gers there was almost a third as Hannah Robertson was denied by a great save from the home keeper.

Clean sheets show your character and this is something that we need to show and I said to the back four and to the goalkeeper I want a clean sheet and we got one. Gregory Vignal

Forfar had a chance just before the half-hour mark as Rebecca Dempster curled a shot just over the bar from outside the box. Rangers got their third as Hannah Robertson made ground down the left wing before cutting into the box and beating McNicoll from a tight angle. Gregory Vignal was forced into a change just before the break as Chantelle Brown was substituted after taking a knock and was replaced by Sarah Robertson.

Rangers continued to control the game in the second half and Jayne Cameron had a chance just after the hour mark as Clare Gemmell’s free kick was swung into the box but Cameron’s header went just wide. Gill Inglis then played the ball forward to Hannah Robertson who’s curling shot was missed by the keeper and bounced off the post. As Rangers pushed for a fourth a free-kick swung in by Brogan Hay evaded everyone and bounced off the post. Shortly after Hay had a shot at goal which was pushed away by the keeper. The fourth goal did come in added time as Shelley Campbell turned in the box and fired high into the back of the net to see Rangers progress comfortably to the quarter-finals. CAPTAIN’S NOTES CLARE GEMMELL

Welcome to today’s game against Glasgow City at The Hummel Training Centre. It was a really difficult game last weekend against Liverpool in our friendly, obviously they are a really good side and you can see that with their intensity and their movement. Hopefully you can see what we have been working on since Gregory has come in and it is coming slowly into games. The girls are trying and you can see it is getting better we just need to keep pushing on with that. Obviously last week’s game was played at a high intensity so hopefully that will prepare us going into today’s game. We know it will be another really tough game but all we can do is work hard and we have prepared for the game in the best way we can. Thank you for your continued support. Enjoy the game,

Clare
