MANAGERS NOTES GREGORY VIGNAL
Welcome to this evening’s game against Glasgow City. They won in the Champions League last week so it will be a tough game especially when we are playing every three or four days the girls have to learn this kind of thing as well. I won't change my philosophy we will play on the floor, play from the back and try to play a pattern of play and a game model, I am expecting a big game. I think the last time we played Glasgow City we were a bit naive in terms of set-pieces, but in terms of play I was really pleased because we tried to play from the back on the floor so I was really happy now we have to avoid the mistakes and try to be stronger at set-pieces against. Getting to the SSE Scottish Cup semi-finals after last week’s win I think it is good progress for the club and for the squad. This is where we want to be and I said when I came in July that this four months we need to make sure we are ready for next year. Thank you for your continued support.

MATCH REPORT ABERDEEN FC WOMEN 0 RANGERS WFC 1
15 September 2019 | Aberdeen Sports Village | SSE Scottish Cup
RANGERS Women are through to the SSE Scottish Cup semi-finals after beating Aberdeen this afternoon. Clare Gemmell’s first-half penalty was the difference in the quarter-final tie at Aberdeen Sports Village. Rangers had a shot inside the first five minutes as Caitlin O’Hara tested the Aberdeen keeper from distance. Gregory Vignal’s side came close to opening the scoring on the 8th minute as the ball was played through to Rosie Mcquillan who done well to turn and curl and effort towards goal but her shot hit the crossbar and went over for an Aberdeen goal kick. The deadlock was broken shortly after on the 12th minute as Rangers were awarded a penalty after Brogan Hay was taken down inside the box. Captain Clare Gemmell stepped up to the spot and slotted a low shot past the home keeper to put the Gers in front. The goal gave Rangers control as they quickly looked for a second with Rosie Mcquillan’s shot being tipped over the bar by the Aberdeen keeper before Lisa Martinez headed just over from the resulting corner. Gregory Vignal’s side continued to pressure as Clare Gemmell’s corner was swung in and eventually fell to Ellis Dalgliesh but her shot drifted over the bar. Dalgliesh came close again a few minutes later as she tried a shot from 25-yards but it was just over the target. Holly Napier had a chance to double the scoring early in the second-half as her shot was saved by the keeper. Gregory Vignal made a double change on the 57th minute as Holly Napier and Daina Bourma were replaced by Carla Boyce and Jade Gallon.

Aberdeen came close to equalising on the hour mark as their number 15 broke forward and found space to fire a shot across goal. A cheer went up from the home supporters as it looked to be heading for the back of the net, but landed just wide. Clear-cut chances were few and far between in the final 20 minutes of the game as Rangers kept hold of their advantage to progress to the semi-finals of the cup. Rangers: Baillie, Brownlie, Watson, Matinez, Dalgliesh, O’Hara (Honeyman, 90), Gemmell, Hay (Macdonald, 86), Mcquillan (Campbell, 68), Bourma (Boyce, 57), Napier (J. Gallon, 57). Subs: L. Gallon, Cameron.

CAPTAIN’S NOTES CLARE GEMMELL
Welcome to tonight’s rearranged SWPL game against Glasgow City. It is a game we have been looking forward to since the last time we played them a few weeks ago. We had some great combinations of play and movement, but unfortunately we couldn’t take that into the final third. We will be looking to improve on that tonight. It is a good game for us to play in off the back of our SSE Scottish Cup win on Sunday against Aberdeen. It was a game played in difficult conditions but we managed it well, which showed our resilience as a team. We need to take both of these elements into tonight’s game and implement our own style of play so that we can dictate larger periods of the game. It will be a difficult test, but one that we are becoming more and more prepared for as each session passes.
Enjoy the game,
Clare
