International Paper to Bring New Jobs to Memphis as it Plans to Expand

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – International Paper will bring 250 new jobs to Memphis, adding to its $100 million payroll for its 1,600 employees. The second largest paper manufacturer in the world will begin the expansion on Jan. 1, said senior vice president and chief financial officer, Robert C. Butler. This will not only boost the economy in Memphis by adding 15 percent more employees, but it will also create 100 trade jobs as it builds the new office building, said Butler. The company will consolidate and centralize its accounting and human resource departments from Seattle, Denver, Atlanta, and the Purchase, N.Y headquarters in an effort to increase productivity and lower costs, said senior vice president of human resources, Robert M. Byrnes. During the three-‐year expansion, the company will build an 80,000 sq. ft. office building in Willow Lake Business Park just off of Raines Road. In 2015, International Paper will transfer the accounting department and in 2016, the human resource department will follow, said Butler. International Paper was founded in 1907 in Purchase, N.Y. The company produces printing paper, packaging, paperboards and wood products. These products are manufactured in 27 countries and exported to 130 countries. Memphis’ low cost of living, mild weather, access to an international airport makes for an ideal location, said Byrnes.
