Strategy Management, encompassing the Balanced Scorecard, is an instrument to convert business strategies into understandable, meaningful targets, and the individual targets are assigned to a perspective or „view“. The standard scorecard, has 4 views, namely, Financial, Customer, Internal Processes and Learning & Growth.
!
Performance Measurement, and the other visual information units enable management to grasp complex situations at a glance and thus facilitate and accelerate management decision making. The Management Cockpit, on a traditional basis is made of 4 walls, each representing a „view“ of the organization
!
Business Consolidations take care of the elimination of inter-dependent accounting entries and allow for the amalgamation of planning and operating results and the consolidation of investments.
!
Business Planning (BPS) allows for integrated operational and strategic planning on a task level, using data from a specified info-cube via a planning area.
!
Stakeholder Relationship Management (SRM) allows for data management and documentation on various business partners, and the ability to write queries theron.

Having determined what we mean by ‘value‘ in today‘s economy we then need to ensure that this ‘value‘ is measurable, otherwise how do we determine the success of the strategy? Quite often because the organization as a whole is valued by the capital market it is not obvious to the management which business units contribute to the generation of corporate value and which business units destroy value. Evidently if we are to concentrate our resources for the maximum return then we need this information.
!
Once we have this information we can then take the action necessary to ensure that we invest our capital wisely and for the maximum return (creation of value).
!
The key to having this level of visibility and also the key to managing a company or a business unit according to Value Based Management (VBM) principles, is the ability to identify the relationships between the key value drivers of a business and the measures of the operational business execution. In the scheme above the key value drivers according to Alfred Rappaport are illustrated: " sales growth / operating margin / cash tax rate / working capital investment / fixed capital investment / competitive advantage period
!
Basically the management decisions in the operations, investment and financing areas influence the 7 key value drivers which then in turn impact corporate value.
!
This method is looking at the Shareholder Value Added (SVA) / Discounted Cash Flow (DCF) approach to corporate valuation. The benefit of this approach is that we are looking at "#$#%&!cash flow generation at '#($)*(&!(&+&(, of the business (e.g. at business unit level, for the whole company etc.). By analysing the likley cash flow at these levels of the business we can determine which strategies are likely to generate an acceptable rate of return and so provide added value to our shareholders. It is also useful to look at this method of valuation as it is increasingly being used by the financial markets as the key method for determining an enterprise‘s future value potential.

The above graphic demonstrates how the SEM component is integrated with the BW. The point should be made again that all components use the same database which ensures consistency and timeliness of the data, wherever you may be accessing it.
!
An example of how this would be useful is that quite often managers will use the Balanced Scorecards as their monthly reporting tool, as this focuses their attention on what is important. They can then drill down into the BW database to interrogate the data further and get more details. They may then decide to run a Rolling Forecast or maybe enter some new data in the BW. Either task can be completed, with the link through from the Balanced Scorecard to the BPS. In BPS, they can run the Forecast or enter the new data, save it, and then return to their Balanced Scorecard, where the data will now be immediately available for reporting. This is subject to the buffering policy.
!
Another example of the integration of the components would be stakeholders accessing relevant reporting information from the Balanced Scorecards or Cockpit via their dedicated web portal and therefore SRM. Another popular use of the system is to return data back to mySAP ERP. For example, planning data from BPS. Alternatively, we may want to have the data taken into BCS from BPS so that we can consolidate the plan, and then return it to the BW.

The Balanced Scorecard contains essentially four perspectives: •
Financial The strategy for growth and profitability, viewed from a shareholder’s perspective
•
Customer The strategy to create value and differentiate, from the perspective of the customer.
•
Internal Business Processes The priorities for excellence in various business processes which aim to increase customer and shareholder satisfaction.
•
Learning & Growth Measures to create a climate that supports organizational change, innovation and growth.

•
The red wall for markets, customers and competitor analysis;
•
The blue wall for monitoring internal processes;

By clicking on a Wall, a Logical View or a Frame, it is possible to open a new window where the selected presentation object is displayed. In the case of a Logical View, a window is displayed showing the selected View with its corresponding Frames. The smallest element in a corporate structure that is used as a basis for consolidation is the consolidation unit. In the mySAP ERP-based consolidation tool (EC-CS), the unit for management reporting was a combination of company and Profit Center or Business Area. The consolidation unit of legal consolidation was the company. The two entities were separated into different views. Consequently, two data records were received from subsidiaries: one record for the legal entity and a second one for the management entity. Each period you had to make adjustments between the two views. BW-based consolidation allows you to handle two consolidation units in one data record; this is what is meant by matrix consolidation. In order to use two entities as consolidation units you assign both InfoObjects to the role „consolidation unit“ in the BCS data basis. In this business scenario subsidiaries are obliged to unify values before data is loaded into SEM-BCS. Each data record includes two consolidation units throughout the consolidation process. It is also possible to retain the dual accounting approach; that is, to have one legal and one management entity in two data records. This is the same architecture as in the ECC-based EC-CS. So it is up to you which architecture you use to set up your SEM-BCS.

It is not the intention that SEM-Business Planning will replace all other SAP planning systems. Rather, SEM works in a complementary fashion with tools such as the planning in the operational area of the SAP system.
!
For example, you would use SEM in a supply chain environment to model strategy and measure the overall success of your sales and production plans in terms of increased customer satisfaction, increased shareholder value, reduced inventories, increased cycle-time efficiency and maximized return on assets. You can carry out detailed planning with specialized systems such as APO/CRM as these are closer to customers and vendors.
!
Another example could be CO-PC (product costing) within the SAP system. Again, from a SEM point of view you may be interested in the higher-level strategic decisions such as barriers encountered while marketing a new product and which plant in which country produces the products in a cost and time efficient manner. You would be interested in a summary level of product costing information, but would expect the SAP CO-PC, for example, to provide the detail aggregation as CO-PC is close to the transaction data and has the detailed functions required. This does not exclude the possibility that you can carry-out operational planning in SEM as desired. You may, carry-out budgeting for cost centers in SEM and then retract the data to the operational are of the SAP system for further work.

Globalization has proved to be a double-edged sword, offering benefits but also throwing up new challenges to businesses and their managers.
!
In particular, any business organization today has to satisfy its stakeholders, namely its shareholders, otherwise management teams can rapidly find themselves in trouble. Also, institutional investors today have a great deal of power and are not afraid to use it to replace under performing management teams.
!
Also, other stakeholder groups such as business partners, customers, employees and communities are becoming more demanding. Considering that a bad reputation in the employee market, the business partner market, the customer market, or generally in society can significantly hurt a company’s ability to do carry out business successfully, management has to consider carefully what stakeholders expect from their company when they are going to make major business decisions.
!
Therefore, we have experienced over the last couple of years a major shift in enterprise management best practice. Rather than managing a company with a purely ‘inside-out’ approach by assuming good product development, efficient production and service processes are the cornerstone of corporate success, a real understanding of stakeholder expectations and the ability to outperform them constantly is perceived today as an indicator for management’s success. This is turning around the enterprise management process from an "#$%#&'()*+, to an ")*+%#&'(#$, approach.

mySAP ERP systems are "#$%&'!()('%*(. The client concept enables you to run several separate business operations at the same time in one mySAP ERP system.
!
A "#$%&' is, in organizational terms, an independent unit in the system. Clients have their own data environment and therefore their own user master and transaction data, assigned user master records and chart of accounts and specific Customizing parameters.
!
So that you can log onto the system, you must have a user master record created for you for the corresponding client. For reasons of access protection, you must enter a password when you log onto the SAP System. The system does not display the password that you enter.
!
SAP R/3 systems are available in several languages. Use the !"#$%"$& input field to select the logon language for each session.
!
Multiple logons have been logged in SAP R/3 systems as of Release 4.6. This is for security as well as licensing reasons. A warning message appears if the same user attempts to log on twice or more. This message offers the user three options:
!
•
Continue with this logon and end any other logons in the system
•
Continue with this logon, without ending any other logons in the system (this will be logged in the system)
•
Terminate this logon
You can place your own text on the initial screen in a number of ways. For more information, see SAP Note 205487.

"#$!%&'(!#))*''!is the standard entry screen displayed after logon. You navigate through the system using a tree structure.
!
You can include an image on the right-hand side of the screen, for example, your company logo. This image can only be entered system-wide and is a cross-client setting. Assuming you have the appropriate authorization, you can find a detailed description of the necessary settings by choosing !"#$%&'()'*+,-.-&#$%#-/.'0.1/$,%#-/.. Note that this image is stored in the system and transported to the SAP Front End every time it is called by SAP Easy Access. Although this transfer is compressed, the image for the initial screen should not exceed 20 kB. You can prevent this image being called either by using the setting 2/3'4566+'7/..68#-/. in the SAPLogon program (see SAP Note 161053) or by deactivating the calling of the image by choosing !"#$%&'()'46##-.9&.
