BACKGROUND Characteristics of traditional marriage in China

PROJECT 1 Coummumaking Improvements in China's matchmaking corners

¡ Service deisgn Board game deisign ¡ Group design

Combination of two families For the Chinese, love may be a two-person affair, but marriage must mean the union of two extended families, so when it comes to marriage, the parents

of the couple have even more power than they do themselves.

A marriage without the blessing of parents wiil not be a happy one.

Status of marriage in China

Famliy’s equality of conditions Since ancient times, China has had a saying that "the family is the right match for the family", and since the family behind the individual is dominant in marriage, people often use a series of material conditions rather than spiritual qualities such as love to judge whether two people are suitable for marriage

From one generation to the next As China's "one child policy" ended nearly 30 years ago in 2016, the post-90s generation now facing marriage grew up with one child, and their parents are very enthu-

siastic about them having a second child, which has become a kind of confrontation between children and parents in marriage

China's single adult population reached 240 million in 2018 ,and that number is expected to rise to 92 million by 2021 Reasons why young people don't want to get married

No time for socializing The pressure of work and life is too great, and they don't want to go out due to fatigue in addition to working hours

Research Interview Questionnaire Concept User test Prototype

The cost of marriage is too high Chinese parents have high financial requirements for their children's marriage partners, leading many people to believe they can't get married without a house or car

The pursuit of love Some young people say they won't get married until they meet the right person

INTRODUCTION

FIELD RESEARCH To investigate the matchmaking corner more thoroughly, I conducted field research

History of matchmaking corcer Origin

Development

2004 Beijing's Longtan Park was home to the first matchmaking corner in China. At that time, the media also called it the "Parents' Blind Date Club" or "Parents' Blind Date Club". It was initiated by the residents of the park nearby, they found that their children were still single, they thought about organizing a "magpie" in the park, held at fixed times each week, parents introduced their children to each other, satisfied with each other to leave contact information.

2020 By word of mouth and media coverage, this "parents' blind date" has grown in

scale and has spread to other major cities such as Shanghai,Hangzhou,

Shenzhen (LianhuaMountain),Tianjin (People's Park), Shenyang (South Lake Park),Suzhou,Luoyang,Jinan,Xuzhou.

INTERVIEW

QUESTIONNAIRE

I interviewed four parents who set up stalls in the matchmaking corner.

After the field research, I sent out a questionnaire to investigate the young people's understanding and viewson the matchmaking corcer.A total of 247 questionnaires are collected

Mrs.Zhang Age: 59 Shanghai natives Now works as a matchmaker for an agent in the matchmaking concer

Son’s Information 29 years old, has been successfully married through the matchmaking concer

¡There is something wrong with parents in dating corners, they only look at material data, parents are a bit sick ¡Children not getting married is why parents don't teach their children how to socialize from a young age ¡Very traditional, would force his daughter-in-law to have a second child.

Mr.Zheng Age: 65 Outsider The first time came to the matchmaking corner, don't know whether is reliable. Just want to have a try

Daughter’s Information A doctor of Wuhan University works in China Academy of Astronautics

Mr.Wu Age: 63 Outsider Came to Shanghai to try his luck for daughter, where he met a fellow villager and often chatted together

Daughter’s Information 33 years old, Personal conditions are too good, leading to high vision, so far have not found a suitable boyfriend ¡It is believed that the matchmaking concer has formed the atmosphere of conditional comparison ¡The most important thing to find a partner is to have a suitable personality. But the material conditions of the partner should not be too poor. ¡The daughter knew that she came to the matchmaking corner, but she didn't trust here. She told him not to be too serious

¡The existence of matchmaking corcer is still necessary. It is the product of social phenomenon ¡At present, most of the people who are worried about setting up stalls are outsiders. Most of the local children and parents are not very anxious. ¡Many parents have been here for a long time. In fact, their mood is very depressed. It is a kind of helplessness to come here.

I always feel at ease in face-to-face communication ¡In fact, it's not a good choice for parents to help out on a blind date. However, it's not like Chairman Mao's days when there was a unit friendship. It's better for children to find boyfriends or girlfriends themselves.

Matchmaking corcer has a poor environment and makes a bad impression The venue is too big, but the stall is too crowded Exposed to the outdoors, afraid of being seen by acquaintances

Need to keep looking at stall No effective topic to talk about Information is chaotic, and it is not efficient to view other people’s information Parental comparison psychology

Only use material data as "bargaining chips", lack of humane communication

The child cannot judge whether it is appropriate by the parents The child does not trust the result of the blind date Subject does not meet the child's mate selection criteria

Process Instructions Basic requirements of the dating partner Use different colors to distinguish the required types

Message Board

Presenting Basic Information Reducing the size of the dating corner about 60 personal details on one board

Efficient self-service filtering of information Partitioned blocks by age and gender

In the low-fi prototype, we divided the area on the whiteboard into two, with the left side using red lines to simulate the post-85 girls' area and the right side using blue lines to simulate the post-80 boys' area. We added seven basic information such as marriage history, education, height, annual salary, occupation, specific birth year, and contact information, and used five colors of red, orange, yellow, green, and blue stickers to represent the categories under each information.

Board Game

Distinguish different information categories by sticker color

Board Game

Map: Vivid Representation of the Journey into Marriage PART 1: Helping to understand the values of two families PART 2: Helping to understand the general personality of the matchmaker Pieces: Lovely images of men and women

In the low-fi prototype, we split into two parts in terms of mapping and cards. In the first part both sides will move towards each other step by step by expressing their agreement or disagreement on the family trivium from the two ends of the map. The second part is designed as a house, where each card will represent a room, and when they agree, they will flip the card over to get the room in the house and build their own love hut

Location:

Problems Lack of aesthetics in visual appearance There is no good way to pinpoint a specific person Adding signs for people to wait when they go to play board games

Location: Matchmaking concer,Shanghai Participants: Two parents there Feedback Advantages

Interesting and provides material for parents to chat with. You can really help your child find a like-minded marriage partner! This not only helps the child, but also helps the future in-laws to really become friends, as opposed to the embarrassment of having nothing to say before

Disadvantages Need to be included in the reflection of the opinions of parents and children after communication before entering the matchmaking corner The second part of the topic can be used as a topic guide for later contact with the child.

Location: Timo Coffee,Shanghai Jiao Tong University, Shanghai Participants: A couple of students Duration: 30min

Feedback

Feedback

Advantages

Advantages

Easy to understand rules for quick and easy play The ability to follow up with child to give feedback and facilitate the next step in the development of the relationship increases credibility. The topics are up-to-date and very responsive to the concerns of young people in the dating process. The two-part flow arrangement is interesting and helps participants get into the groove. The road + room design of the overall map is interesting. The painting style is very cute

Disadvantages A lot of preparation may be required. The first stage of the question is not just a pro or con answer, it is recommended to include a neutral option. A relatively detailed feedback system can be developed to avoid distortions in the delivery of information.

The board game format is a fun way to increase the acceptance of parental communication, hiding very sharp topics behind a cute exterior. Very focused on the topics that young people are interested in on blind dates. Rational Classification of Parts I and II

Disadvantages Some concerns are more pejorative than others. The minefield points of interest may differ, and can they be differentiated in terms of population? Lack of systematic guidance, which may not be easy to implement if there is no staff on site, better to add more detailed instructions or demonstrations. The second part of the question may be a little too private for the child to communicate with the parent

DEMONSTRATION

My perception Ever since my mom's cancer, I've wanted to make a design for her, and this design was a gift to her. I also hope that this design will help more and more people to value medical exams, understand them and love their health, as well as save more women from the pain that comes with breast cancer. Now that my mom is done with her treatment, I hope she will stay healthy in the future!

Mexico

Research Questionnaire Interview Concept Interface Modeling

The Mexicans' view of life believes that death is the opposite of life and the supplement to life. Therefore, they celebrated the completion of the life cycle with joy and greeted the reunion of the living and the dead once a year.

European and American countries On this day, people commemorate the deceased through masses and celebrations. Living church believers can help their deceased family and friends to ascend to heaven early through prayerand good deeds.

The Ching Ming Festival in China is a solemn day for grave sweeping and ancestor worship, Japan and South Korea also have similar festivals such as the Bon Festival and the Hanshi Festival.

RESEARCH

INSPIRATION I researched some of the current phenomena and designs about death.

Future trend

Status of death

of funerals in China

With the improvement of global medical standards, living standards and the decline of fertility rate, the acceleration of global aging is the general trend. The advent of aging will also make death a huge problem in society

Ecological burial

Death population

Aging trend

The Chinese government has made it clear that by 2020, the proportion of land-saving and ecological burials will reach more than 50%

‰„Â?Â?Â? „Â?Â?Â? Â? ÂˆÂ

The high price of the cemetery makes people "unaffordable the price of death"

tree burials

storage of ashes nature burials

The design of the Japanese vertical cemetery saves urban land space on the one hand, and on the other hand shows the design concept of the passing of time and the forgetting of death. People put the ashes of the dead in a balloon, when no one pays homage to him , the balloon will automatically fly to the sky

Sustainable eco-concept More and more designs are considering combining urns with home greenery products or designing biodegradable caskets to bring the dead into contact with nature. There is also a growing number of designers who are designing or the phenomenon that ecological burial will be the trend of the future

Works of art In recent years there have been a lot of great movies and games exploring death, COCO telling people that real death is oblivion, and Spiritfarer telling people to embrace death with love, and that death is just the beginning of another journey

Internet Data Cemetery

Internet death sea burials

Cemetery price Housing price

Emotional sustenance With the development of society, people's demand for spiritual materials will increase, and the commemoration of the dead will require more unique products to satisfy

Current status of China's cemeteries Â?„Â?Â?Â? Â?„Â?Â?Â? Â? ÂˆÂ

In the future society, due to the scarcity of land resources, more and more people will adopt ecological burials, which will cause the traditional burial culture to be impacted.

Remembering and forgetting

People nowadays are accustomed to recording their daily lives on the Internet, which will have an impact on people's death culture in the future. It also plays a big role in people's spiritual sustenance

As the internet becomes more and more fully systematically built, so does the amount of data people leave behind on the internet, and when a person dies his social media can sometimes be a way to pay tribute to him. So more and more forms of digital cemeteries are also giving more people a glimpse into the future possibility of widespread acceptance of virtual tributes.

Ecological burial has become a trend, and people may be faced with a future without a grave as a memorial and a place to stay after death, so in the future people will need to find new ways to commemorate their loved ones who have passed away.

Multi-faceted warmth Young people hope that after they pass away, people in their social circles can comment on their lives, and form an objective and complete self from the descriptions of others. And can express their grief when facing death of their loved one.

SWOT analysis of death design for future

1. Heal the grief of death 2. Reduce the suffering of facing death 3. let the living cherish the time they live

1. possible demise of traditional culture 2. People may increasingly ignore the seriousness of death

Opportunity

1. The Internet provides more ways to document life. 2. the promotion of ecological burial has exposed people to a lack of memorial forms

1. People are currently unable to accept keeping family members' ashes at home 2. whether AI will change the meaning of death itself

Paper prototype UI DESIGN CONCEPT By combing through the overall logic, I think about the way the final UI is presented. I wanted to connect each module in the form of a planet, and use the light behind the planet to reflect the concept of lighting up life. The Bluetooth connection to the product, the recording of daily life memories and the network of relationships with friends and family are transformed into three planets, with circles throughout the design. It gives the user a sense of tranquility, mystery and warmt in the future.

QUESTIONNAIRE & INTERVIEW Based on the questionnaires and interviews, I created a data board and analysed the more typical of these situations and identified three issues.

Younger people in the questionnaire are already very accepting of LGBTQ LGBTQ people interviewed still do not perceive that others are friendly to them

Research Questionnaire Interview Concept Interface Video

The two create a major contradiction, the key to which is the expression of support

PERSONA

From my previous research, I have identified four categories of people who are relevant to LGBT people and their needs, which will help me to design for these people later

LGBT PEOPLE’S PARENTS Housewife

“ “ “ “ I once doubted myself because of sexual orientation, but I recognized myself under the guidance of my friends. Now I feel that being a gay man is no different from everyone.

Why am I different from everyone? Why am I born to be a girl but think I am a boy, I am so miserable

I started to understand that there are LGBT groups in the world from junior high school, and since then I hope to support and encourage them in the best possible way

I found that my child seems to be different from other children. He seems to like boys. Both me and his dad are normal. How can this happen? Can he change it?

BACKGROUND SHANG HAI RENJI HOSPITAL THE PROBLEM OF NURSES In the case of the new crown epidemic, a large number of patients were admitted to many hospitals, which also led to the need for a large number of patient blood and other samples in many wards. However, the test tube rack design on the market is more traditional, and most nurses need to check the patients themselves Inform-ation, there are often cases of wrong or missing extraction, causing unnecessary trouble and pain for patients and nurses In this collaboration between our university and Renji Hospital, my team members and me designed a test tube rack designed to simplify the blood collection process for nurses

USER JOURNEY STEP Print Labels

ACTION

Print the test tube label, and paste it on the correspondingblood collection test tube

Check Information Identify the patient's wristband barcode through the hospital PDA system to confirm information

Collect Samples Find the patient's corresponding blood collection test tube on the test tube rack and collect medical samples

Recollect Samples

Sign the sampling time and name on the medical order book of the patient who needs to take the sample

If the sample is collected incorrectly or missed, or the samples are untimely delivery, must be recollected

POIN POINT

OPPORTUNITY

Attach the wrong label or select the wrong test tube

PDA system function is relatively basic

It takes time to find the test tube or cause samples missed

There may be temporary additions or changes in medical orders

Increase workload, patients do not understand and cooperate with work

Another label collection process will also increase the risk of mistakes

Skip the label printing procese by design

Connect with test tube rack and add PDA function

The test tube rack can automatically screen and push out the required test tubes

Add temporary medical order reminder function

Display the collection progress on the interface

Push out thecorresponding test tube according to the patient information
