Newspapers in Education is an international program that promotes and increases our children’s literacy by using the newspaper as a teaching tool. NIE is a unique way for schools, businesses and the local newspaper to work together in a partnership that benefits all of us - now and in the future. Through the use of daily news, editorial, features and even advertising, students at all grade levels can learn math and cost comparison skills, geography and meteorology, history and current events and how they shape our world, all while improving reading and comprehension. The NIE program helps motivate and teach students with a textbook as fresh as each day’s news.

7th grade Editorials THE BAND AND CHOIR ROOMS NEED SOUND PROOF WALLS. This letter is about the band and choir rooms and how they both need sound proof walls. For example me being a band kid I can hear them singing while we are playing. And it can be pretty annoying because we are both playing different notes with different pitches and it throws us off. And I’m pretty sure the choir kids have the same problem. But I think they can probably hear us more than we can hear them. And with the fact that we annoy each other we have started to hate each other in school. And we have started saying mean comments to

each other. And we are saying things like” Your singing sucks!” and “You can’t even play the tuba!”. So yeah it’s pretty crazy and me being an alto saxophone player I know how loud I can be. So I think sound proof walls would do us both a favor. Siena Crews 7th, HMS, Sparks Boxing To some people, boxing is just a sport that little brats do. They think that all the kids that join boxing are kids that start street fights. Some clubs may be like that. But here at the Hamilton Eagles Boxing Club, we don’t let anyone who would do that join or stay in our club. At

my club, they teach you self-defense, and how to be a better person. Yes we do punch bags, but over half the practice is exercising and doing calisthenics. Yes I do fight at an amateur level. One of the only differences that makes amateur boxing way safer than professional is that we wear headgear that protects our ears and most of our head. Hopefully you at least respect boxing as a sport, and not something that is boring or bad. People that do boxing are still good people. So come down and get in shape, you don’t have to fight, but it is a good experience. You don’t have to just take this spiel from me, everyone at my boxing club loves

and respects this sport. Just remember, boxing can be a respected sport, even if you don’t like it, but it shouldn’t be despised. Evan Bennett 7th grade, HMS, 7 Dear Editor, why are people so obsessed with clothing and hair? I do not care about clothing or fashion that much. First, what is with ripped jeans? They look really cheap and some look like the jeans got mauled by a bear. I think jeans are uncomfortable and very rarely wear them. Also why does everyone feel like they need to dress to impress everyone else? I just wear clothes that I think are comfortable. Also

what is the obsession with hair? I asked a girl how long it took them to do their hair in the morning and they said half an hour. Why would anyone want to spend half an hour on their hair. I have pretty long hair and do absolutely nothing with it except when I do sports. And what is with makeup and dying your hair to have highlights or plastic surgery. Why would someone dye their hair if it is just going to make it fall out. Plastic surgery must be costly and maybe a little painful so why do people do it just to make themselves look better. CHEESE SHOULD BE A CANDY!!! Cheese is super delicious and honestly the best food in the entire world, why not just make it into candy, cheddar cheese jelly beans, mozzarella cheese jelly beans, pepper jack jelly beans, but no one should ever create a blue cheese jellybean. There could be cheddar cheese suckers and mozzarella cheese suckers and even pepperjack suckers, but again NO blue cheese suckers. If we had these in our local gas stations and local supermarkets then i would surely be wasting my money on them, because again, cheese is the best food in the entire world, what if they

even had chocolate with different kinds of cheese in it. There could be caramels with different kinds of cheese as well. There could be m&m’s with cheese inside instead of chocolate, and same with skittles. Many different candies could be replaced with cheese, and as many people would not be as obese as they are today. Sierrah Lewis 7, Hms, Sparks Dear Newspaper Reader, Have you ever gone to Ravalli County Recycling Center? This place has helped many members of our community take care of our waste products instead of landing them into garbage

dumps that cover vast areas of land and damage the environment. This wonderful place has since shut down because of its lack of donations and volunteers. I believe that it is important to be resourceful and take care of our planet by recycling and that something must be done to reopen this amazing community run recycling center. By recycling we are being good stewards of our land. Little things like plastic can kill animals like birds, and other things that get into our water sources can be dangerous to us and others. When the recycling center was open I and my family could recycle old news papers, card board boxed, cereal boxes, some

Recycling Centers are important to communities and should be kept better. You can help change this and reopen the recycling center by donating, volunteering, and taking a stand to help reopen the recycling center. Sierra Hazel Berry Grade 7, HMS, Sparks The world needs more plants. Every single day trees get chopped down and we build buildings where parks and forests should be. Everyday plants die for land develop-

ment and produce farms. We are not planting enough trees and flowers to compensate for the amount being pulled out of the ground. We need green! Plants help clean our air and make our food. We need more of them where there are not enough. Some plants remove harmful chemicals like formaldehyde and carbon monoxide from the air. They also produce oxygen and reduce the amount of carbon dioxide in the air. Aside from being useful and healthy for the atmosphere, they also look good. The lush green look of a nice house plant can make a space look cleaner and more put together. Plants can also promote happi-

ness and wellbeing as well. Some plants can fill you with a good kind of energy that is very healthy for your mind and body. As you can see here plants have quite a few benefits. Plants are healthy for the mind and air around us which is why we need more. Plants can do us a favor but only if we do one for them. Betty Neuschwander 7th Grade, HMS, Sparks Dear editor, Thank you for providing a local news source that our community can read and stay updated. I have always gone to Ravalli Republic for school projects or other assignments. My dad always

uses you guys for information. About five or four years ago my grandma died of too much medication. I noticed you guys wrote an article about her and I thought that was really cool. Some of the articles I read I learned a lot. My favorite articles were probably about the Hamilton skate park. I like skateboarding and am really glad it’s here. Another one of my favorites are all the pet ones. I love dogs and cats. The only problem is I’m allergic to cats. Me and my dad used to visit the daily dog pound near the Arbors. I loved looking at all the dogs but my dad wouldn’t let me go in the cat section. I love the way you guys write. It really

He also loves the local advertising. Sincerely, Zach Zach Olbricht Grade 7, HMS, Sparks Dear Ravalli Republic Editor, I understand that Hamilton is a tourist destination and adults need their free time, but it was a mistake to make the Filling Station Ice Cream Parlor into a bar. I loved going there with my friends, family, and especially after orthodontist appointments. So many memories were

made there. When I was around eight years old my family went there to reveal the gender of the baby on the way. I also remember on that day my mom and I got in a big fight because she forced me to get strawberry ice cream to represent it was a girl. Sometimes after orthodontist appointments my face would hurt so bad I would eat tons of ice cream. I always wanted Filling station ice cream because I thought it was the best ice cream in town. My favorite flavors were Chocolate, Bubblegum, plus Rootbeer floats. Obviously, I think it was a huge mistake for them to change it into a bar. I also think they should reconsider

changing the bar back into an ice cream parlor. It was such an awesome place to go relax and eat ice cream with your friends and family. Sincerely, Taylor Bratvold Taylor Bratvold 7, HMS, Sparks Dear editor I would like to express how much I appreciate Hamilton expanding the local Super One. Super One is a very popular grocery store and is a great place to shop. Our community, I think, made a very smart choice by expanding the building. My favorite part about the expansion was the deli. Before it was small, crowded, and not very welcoming. Now the

deli has multiple places to sit, many other food options to choose from. They also added a bakery where the old deli was. I love how they made it more colorful along the walls. I think that helped make the store look alot more inviting to the customers. All in all, I’m happy that they chose to redo the store. Before it was good, but now it is even better! Jaycie Duce 7th grade, HMS, Sparks I think Hamilton needs a new skate shop. If you think about it the skate park was such a huge success, so if we have a skate shop it would surely do you well also some people are new to skating and it

7th grade Editorials would be nice to have someone face-to-face in the shop explain to you what would be better and what you would like more, to help you come to a decision. And you know maybe you don’t know how to build a new skateboard you can have the employee put your board and stuff together, and then you’ll have your board ready to go skate! In addition to all these amazing aspects of having a skate shop, being able to walk into the store and feeling and touching and seeing what you can buy will make parents more comfortable getting their kids to skate stuff. because people tend to be more willing to buy something if they can feel it

and see it and make sure it works this is not a thing that they can have online, with this aspect even more people can start skating and will create an even better skate community in our wonderful town. Ben Busa Grade 7, HMS, Sparks Dear editor, I think that America should pay a lot more attention to the wildfires happening in Australia at this time. I think that the fires are getting out of hand and we are not doing anything about it. There are quite a few things that we can do to help the fires. We should really take them into consideration if we want

to help out Australia. One of the ways that we can help is to raise money for the firefighters and the people that lose their house because of the fires. They really need it because if you are going out to fight for your country because of the fires that are burning the country down, you really put yourself at risk, and if you have to leave your home you don’t have anywhere to live or do almost anything in. Another way that we can help is to provide food and water for the people and animals who are suffering from the wildfires to help them in their time of need. Many many animals have died from these wildfires all because they don’t

know that they need to leave the area. When people have to leave their houses they lose almost anything so providing for them would be necessary. There are a lot of things that we can do to help Australia with its wildfires and we should really do these things so that Australians can be safe. If they aren’t safe that’s a lot of people that could die. It’s sad that America won’t do anything about the fires that are in Australia. The bad thing about red sox is that it cost 1 ,000 dollars. That means there may be an insanely good baseball player but he can’t afford to play. Also the school could make a lot of money off of it because i know when i’m at a baseball game you always want a snack and a drink to watch the game so concessions could make a lot of money. Also it gives athletes a chance to try something new. I know many kids that are athletes that only do

one sport because there isn’t baseball for school. I also know someone on the stevi board who is also trying to get high school baseball. Also if we get high school baseball then it might encourage other schools to also get baseball. In conclusion, can you get hamilton high school baseball. Taylor Nead Grade 7, Hms, Sparks Lots of people have heard of the lost trail powder mountain. It’s a great place to bring your family and have a good time, and ski. There are many things to enjoy, about lost rail, like the nice lodge and food court. Even though there are many good

things there is one main bad thing. The ski lifts start going at 9:30 and, the majority of the skiers start skiing around 10. The bad thing is that the ski lift take like 18 minutes, it takes forever! Each ski runs takes about 15 minutes. So when you think about it you waste half of your day riding ski lifts.! think Lost Trail should either get new chair lifts or upgrade the one they have. I realize they don’t want it to fast for the little kids, but I think they should speed it up a few miles per hour. Not overly fast, but just to make your skiing worth its money. Overall if they got better, or upgraded chair lift skiing would be much more enjoyable at Lost Trail.

Jason Chaplin Grade 7, HMS, Mr. Sparks Dear editor, there is an issue with racism in hamilton montana. Yes i do know every where racism is an issue but by what i know hamilton is the worst, or at least close to it. I can tell its a problem due to people with colored skin always getting bullied. It’s so wrong to judge someone due to their skin. They can’t choose their skin tone, even though we have cleared some racism in the past it’s still there. I have some really close friends they have colored skin and their parents seem to get lower pay than other people in the same position. We need people out

Emmalee Storm Grade 7, HMS, Sparks I think there are some improvements the school should make for the success of its students. I believe the school should change summer so it is during MayJune, July because fire season eliminate a month of summer for the majority of kids in Montana because the fire smoke can cause serious health problems to kids and can be potentially fatal to a person with lung conditions so most kids

are stuck inside for the majority of August so they really only get 2 months of summer to enjoy the weather I know how much smoke can ruin summer vacation because one year the Roaring Lion forest fire destroyed acres of forest and caused many amazing vacation spots to become unbearable to be at. And the Monday after new years should be of because most people teacher and students stay up and party till 2 or 3 in the morning making them unable to function properly in school also the yard duty teachers should be less strict they get you in trouble if you play ball sports out of the cage but most kids don’t enjoy tripping on as-

phalt and face planting on it if they got 1 extra yard duty to be in the front if the school students could run without the fear of serious injury. Bennett Quintana Grade 7, HMS, Sparks Why people shouldn’t judge anime. My topic is about anime and why people should stop judging it especially if they haven’t seen it Not that long ago me and my friends who are total weebs went around and asked people about their opinions on anime. A Lot of them said they didn’t like it and said it was stupid. Even though almost all of them had never seen anime. We

asked them why they hated it if they’ve never seen ani me. None of them had a real good reason or no reason at all. There are also many people who stereotype people that watch ani me. There are some people who hate anime so much they say it should be removed from Netflix. Even though Netflix would never do that since it is one of the most watched things on Netflix. Netflix has even started making Netflix original animes. People should stop judging things without even knowing what it really Is. I think this is a huge problem in society that should be fixed. The ad was for a Ford F-150 Supercrew XLT, 5.01 VB, 51K 4x4. It was just under $50,000. I asked if we should buy it and my roommates Colter, Cason, Quinn all said in perfect harmony, “Yeah!” So we each put $7,500 dollars in a bowl because we ran out of bags, and we drove to Missoula in Cason’s old Suburban. We finally arrived and bought the truck and went for a joy ride then got some lunch at El Cazador. After we drove back home, we found out that there was a race being organized as a fundraiser.

We entered and got ready for the next two days. When the day came we were nervous, but we shouldn’t have been because we won and got medals. Did you know it used to belong to awesome monsters back when it was built in 2001? There was a different type of monster in each room, and two per room. The five different monsters were ghosts, vampires, zombies, werewolves and drag-

ons. These monsters weren’t like most others like them. The zombies weren’t groaning moaning meat eaters, they were almost human ... they were basically just very pale and needed to eat a certain type of diet. The vampires weren’t full yet, they were only fledglings because they hadn’t had human blood yet. The dragons were just humans .. who can turn into dragons whenever (and change the size depending on how big or small they need to be) and fly and do dragony things. The ghosts were just dead little girls. and the werewolves were just Twilight nerds who drank rainwater from a werewolf footprint. Now, onto the weird and

spooky story. They were all friends who bought the house together because it was in a perfect location for them and would save a lot of money. Each only had to pay $4408 a month (which was cheap because they had highpaying jobs). They were all college students at the time, and never let anybody know what they were. But one day ... this little snitch (her name was Karen)... found out about one of them and exposed them all! Of course, there were now mobs outside their house all the time trying to kill them which really sucked because now they couldn’t go outside to learn at school! Everyone in the house was crushed under everything (Except the ghosts of course) and couldn’t get up. The ghosts helped them all and they went outside to face the angry mob of people in the town. They looked down, face blank. They looked at the people, then at each other . Then one (a dragon person) ran towards the people and stopped right in front of one’ face. She then

said so casually, “have a nice day Sherryl, see you in church tomorrow?”, startling everyone, she then went to Walmart. 6 days later, all the monsters were found dead (yes, including the ghosts). Jayden Mile Grade 5, SMS, Mrs. McKern AKC Yellow lab puppies. $500 without papers, $650 with papers. 880-8376 I think that they are selling these puppies because they ate their recent owners. When they were born they ate their owners and no one

wanted those dogs in their house so they are selling them for 500$. These puppies are so bad that they probably could have a life sentence but their dogs so the police can’t put them in jail. Also these puppies probably have not trained because they ate their owners so the person buying them would have to train them. Also these puppies probably don’t eat dog food. They only eat human flesh and it’s hard to go to Murdochs and buy human flesh. Also there selling these puppies because they have the corona virus and whoever buys the puppies will also get it and then probably their whole family will get it because it is very contagious. Also these

puppies have very bad breath so bad it could kill you so if these puppies don’t eat you you will die from their breath. These puppies also have rabies so when the family buys them they will get rabies and probably die. In conclusion this is . why they are selling these amazing puppies. 2354 38th Street, Missoula All the kids on the block had known about the crazy lady on 38th street. Her strange addiction to cats, all the noise coming from her windows in all directions, and the decorations that cover her house mysteriously appear, never even seeing her setting them up. All the time you could smell the strange aroma leaking from her chimney. The kids figured this was a Hansel and Gretel situation. They would get together to decide how not to get eaten by the evil lady. George the smallest the anti-witch club had suggested they bake her cookies with poison that would turn her into a cat. Although

this would be a handy dandy idea none of them had any witch killing poison. Jared the oldest had suggested going back into the Harlem witch trial idea, but none of them wanted to go to jail for killing an innocent lady if it turned out she wasn’t a witch. The boys had the best idea of all because they had all read The Wizard of Oz. They had gathered a giant barrel of water and hiked down to her house. Jared had been daring enough to ring the doorbell. They waited about five seconds before they had heard the clickety click of high heels. A young lady had opened the door. The boys yelled,”Charge!” They

had dumped the water on the girl hoping the witch would.- disinigrated. She didnt disinigrate and hated the episode so much that she had put her house up for sale. Taylor Bratvold Hamilton MIddle School Grade 7, Mr. Sparks
