What’s the special? Out For Pie After the play Friday night we went out for pie. Being late, I guessed it would be my wife and I.
There was the town cat lady in the corner booth with an unlit cigarette in her missing tooth.
At the counter there was a shabbily dressed bum muttering to his coffee, “I wish you were rum.”
I thought a couple of truckers might be in there. As we sat down I couldn’t help but gawk and stare.
Sitting at a table there were six college kids spilling cream everywhere by popping of the lids.
Some blue haired ladies clucked around a Scrabble board squabbling about how the word ‘jinx’ should be scored.

At a table by himself was a blocked writer yanking on his hair and pulling an all-nighter.
Our bleary eyed waitress looked like a freight train wreck. I said this to my wife as I picked up the check,
Taking up three booths was a large group of ‘goth’ teens in a role playing tourney gambling with saltines.
“For first class entertainment there’s nothing finer than watching customers... in an all night diner!”
