GREETINGS Welcome to the 7th Winter Band Festival™ - Hong Kong. On behalf of Steven Phua and the entire staff of Rave Group, it is a privilege and an honor to have you with us on this internationally acclaimed stage-of-performance. The two-day event includes 28 outstanding bands from: Singapore, Hong Kong, China, Philippines, South Korea and Malaysia. As part of the world-class adjudication panel, I am joined by two globally recognized icons in the music world: Mr. Surapol Thanyawibool from Kasetsart University, Thailand and Mr. Masanori Fukuda from Senzoku Gakuen College of Music, Japan. The foundational theme of the Winter Band Festival - since its very beginning - highlights the positive educational growth of the performers as they continue their pursuit of artistic excellence. And in line with the promotion of wind music, there is also a specially commissioned piece, written by composer Mr. Daisuke Shimizu from Japan, titled “Adventure Tale of Neverland”. Above all, know this is YOUR event. The stars are the young men and women who have chosen to advance-and-embellish their lives via music-learning and music-making. In essence, everyone is already a winner by simply choosing to be a part of this important life-long pathway of personal benefits. BRAVO and CONGRATULATIONS! THANK YOU for choosing to share your talents-andskills with ALL who have chosen to be a part of the 2015 WINTER BAND FESTIVAL. It’s now time to: “STRIKE UP THE BAND!”
With respect and admiration, I remain, Dr. Tim Lautzenheiser Festival Director

Music possesses a miraculous power to change, touch and heal people. In Symphonic Winds, we connect to the world around us through our music and community outreach. At our Christmas “lights” concert, we raised funds to supply solar-powered lights to a Cambodian village. Two years ago, we collected over 200 shoes for refugees in Hong Kong when we performed “Fantasy on an African American Spiritual”. And, in our last concert we helped the HKIS Wind ensemble raise funds to fund a school in the Philippines through Kids Against Poverty. We are proud that most of these events were student initiatives. Through these experiences, we continue our musical growth, discuss the musical values portrayed in the pieces we perform, and connect music to the world around us. We also hope we have touched the hearts of people around us with our music and outreach.

By providing them with the opportunity to gather, as well as the platform to play and perform music together, old boys can continue to live t h e i r musical dream, and share the fruits and joy with other old boys, families and friends. La Salle Old Boys’ Wind Orchestra also has the mission to support the music teams of the alma mater. With the rapid development of the music teams of La Salle College, the flame of music has taken root. The Music Board believes that it is vital that the old boys take an active role in offering support to the current students so as to help the seed sprout and pass the flame on. La Salle Old Boys’ Wind Orchestra has held its first ever performance in the the La Salle College Old Boys Premiere Concert, in September 2013, featuring a variety of performances by old boys who are still passionate about playing music together after graduation. The concert was well received by the audience, and this encouraged the team to hold the old boys concerts annually, so to invite more old boys to join us and share the unique La Salle music.
