FORMER IDENTITY Before starting sketching, it was important to understand the soul, the mindset of the previous logo, focusing on both conceptual and visual part. The former mark was simply the name of the company, lower case, in gray colors.

This process included coming up with visuals which connect with things that happen in a certain moment. Time, lightning, arrows, touch, thinking how can all these relate to Palm as a brand and what it should represent.

After several sketches, the main focus was on time and how things can happen in an instant, in a brief moment. How things can connect and be one at a split of a moment.

The second batch of sketches was all about what Palm was from the beginning, a pioneer in its field. Being an explorer is all about building things, having a structure, create geometric elements which will connect with one another.

Third and final batch for round one sketches, was about Revolutionize Business Future Solutions. How Palm will be in the future. How structure and connection can become something else. Something that will create and build a whole new identity. Bring to life something that has lost its way. Coming to the end of round one, and still no specific idea in mind on how to continue. So many direction to go about, however, what will actually contain the spirit and life of Palm?

Coming into the second round of sketches, the focus has changed a bit and narrowed down to all of Palms main keywords which symbolize its spirit: information, business, access, and instant.

LOOK ALIKE Different logos can sometimes remind us of something else we have seen somewhere, but cannot always recall where. This part is here to make it easy on you. It may look like, but it is not. Palm new logo was well thought of, created after hours of sketching with one clear goal in mind, to create a unique, functional, different logo which symbolizes the company’s heart and soul.

BITS AND PIECES Palms logo is an embodiment of the brand. A way to sum up Palms idea in one simple package. Therefore, the logo, must at all times, be perfectly legible, and without abstractions. It must, at all times, have a clear space that is specified on this and the next couple of pages.

LOGOTYPE In order to create consistency, the logotype was created from the same grid used to design the mark. Once the right typeface was chosen, it was modified by adding a 30 0 angle to resemble the same treatment given to the logo.

OVER AGAIN Due to similarities of the new symbol created to another symbol already existed, some sketches and alterations had to be made. With that in mind, and having the logotype already reflecting what Palm is, the process was now being reversed. Creating a symbol from the logotype.
