FROM THE DIRECTOR Did you catch the creative image of this edition’s cover page? Recently, the recreation team held a contest for after school program participants to draw their family having fun at one of Glendale’s parks or recreation facilities. The winner of the contest, who regularly attends Rose Lane Community Center, artfully drew herself and her family playing a game with fans cheering them on. What a brilliant demonstration of how parks and recreation play a role in our community! Since re-opening, the Glendale Community Center, the Rose Lane Community Recreation Center, and the O’Neil Recreation Center have expanded program opportunities to youth and older adults. The city’s After School Program, Teen Program, Glendale’s Onsite Leadership Program (G.O.L.D.), and Senior Programs are available at all three centers. Over the past six months, more than 500 visits have been made by people engaging in activities and programs, allowing them the opportunity to connect with others in the community. A lot of great things are happening in our recreation facilities and at several park locations throughout the city. Bonsall

North, Glendale Heroes Regional Park, and Thunderbird Conservation Park have each gone through, or are going through, extensive planning efforts this year (2023). In addition to parks planning, the Parks Division continues to make improvements across the system by replacing playground equipment, repairing or replacing aging irrigation infrastructure, and replacing playground sand with engineered wood fiber which meets the accessibility guidelines of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). The Parks and Recreation Department team is excited for you to enjoy the many programs and facilities found around the city. As you do, we encourage you to, like our drawing contest winner, have fun with the people around you. Parks and recreation programs are created for your healthy endeavors!
