COVER LETTER 9, February 2017 Dear Heatherwick Studio: With this letter, I wish to express my strong interest in working with Heatherwick Studio as a Maker. Crafting, as I understand, is a way of thinking in stead of purely model making. And crafting helps the maker experience the material behaviour the geometry the structure and the space. At the same time, I understand that in a project, presenting model and study model are equally important. And as I have a high standard for the detail of model, I am keen on work on presenting model with a high quality as well. Few weeks ago, I visited Heahterwick studio in London and was impressed by and really interested in different scales of model and the research in each model testing, which is very similar with what I studied in AA DRL project. In AA, I learned that study model should be made systematically, and the skills I acquire including 3D printing, laser cutting, Rhino, grasshopper, Maya would help me meet your demand for a maker. I would very much like to speak with you about the designer opportunities and the ways you can utilize my expertise. I am looking forward to speaking about this opportunity. Sincerely, Ruilin Yang 57 Great Russell Street, London, UK WC1B 3BA T: +44-07510935138 E: ruilin.yang@aaschool.ac.uk

AA DRL (MArch) Prototype 2017.1-2018.1 In this project, the prototype mainly need to solve two problems: horizontal movement and vertical twisting. The “01 FRICTIONLESS SURFACE STUDY “is for horizontal movement by reducing the friction of the bottom surface of prototype, and “02 TWIST ACTUATING SURFACE STUDY “ is for actuate the twisting motion by inflating actuating surface.
