The Via de la Plata - The Roman Road 11 Days - Taste of the Camino
11 Days / 10 nights This ancient path is sure to impress with its history and diversity: this was an important trade route, allowing and facilitating the traffic of goods for Roman settlers and soldiers, and later the Arab invasion. Come and walk on polished stones as part of the original road still exists, passing historically and culturally important bridges, churches, aqueducts and villages.
The Via de la Plata - 11 DayTrip From Sevilla to Merida Day 1 - Sevilla
Arrival at Sevilla train station and transfer to the city’s historical center. Seville’s historic centre is one of the largest of any European city, and its historical and monumental heritage, along with a diverse culture and scenery, make this a wonderful area to explore.
Days 2-3 Sevilla - Castilblanco 21 km days (13 miles)
These first days are impressive, exploring the village of Santiponce, the first city founded in purely Roman Hispania, and was the birthplace of Roman emperors Trajan and Hadrian. Followed by Guillena, a town occupied since prehistoric times and important to the Romans and Arabs, with medieval and Neolithic remains.
Days 4-6 Castilblanco - Fuente de Cantos - 32km days (20 miles) Some physically challenging but very rewarding days amidst the mountains and countryside. Crossing rivers, oak trees and multiple farms.
The Via de la Plata - 11 DayTrip
Day 7-9 Fuente de Cantos Torremegia 25km days (20 miles)
Mainly level days where the scenery changes from grain fields and olive groves to vineyards.
Days 10-11 Torremegia - Merida 16km day (10 miles)
This shorter day of walking will allow you to visit Roman ruins of Merida dating as far as 25 BC, such as the Temple of Diana, the Roman Theatre, and the Amphitheatre and Roman Circus, all wonderfully preserved.
